The new TR250 prototype is our new mini DH platform. We took everything we loved about the TR450 and put it into a tighter more responsive frame designed to rip bike parks, jump trails and DH courses where less travel can improve your time. What this amounts to is a more "playful" feeling DH bike.

Described by Transition as a "big all-mountain bike", the new Blindside is a 7.6lbs frame (taking a pound off the weight of the older frame); and designed around 170mm/190mm travel. Although more pedal friendly it is clearly designed to be able to take big hits. The 2010 Blindside is a refined, well-thought-out bike & will probably go a long way to expanding Transition's fan-base beyond its traditional Pacific NW following.

Day three of our trip brings us to Watsonville California home of Fox Racing Shox. Our amazing sales guy Jared Connell shows us the Fox digs and some of his favorite trails just minutes from the headquarters. When I say minutes I actually mean over an hour. Before we hit the trails Jared treats us to some choice Mexican food at one of his favorite taquerias which did not disappoint other than the fact that the burritos where the size of a small baby.

Day two of our road trip brings us to the birth place of Mountain Biking, Mill Valley California. We hit up our local shop Mt. Tam Bikes for some quick directions to find our way. Lucky for us Bryce from the shop hooked us up with a guide for the day. Chris works for WTB, which is located just down the street and was gracious enough to take some time to show us the trails.

It’s 4:30 am Wednesday and I am awaken by the sound of my phone ringing with Metzger on the other end. Of course he is 20 minutes early and sounds like he has just had a jug of coffee, 5 hour energy and six Redbulls.

The tone of the trip was being set very early.

To aid in this new direction Transition has hired Lars Sternberg as an athlete, and team director. Joining Lars on the squad is the world renowned duo of Jill Kintner, and Bryn Atkinson. In her first year racing professional Downhill, Jill will bring the fitness and bike handling skills that have made her an Olympic BMX Bronze Medalist and 4X World Champion to a whole new riding discipline. With many years experience racing at the Elite level, Bryn is a regular top ten finisher in World Cup rounds. Together they will embark on one of the most progressive schedules in 2010. While Bryn will be attacking the downhill World Cup circuit, Jill and Lars will be setting their sights on the North American race scene. In between World Cup rounds Bryn will be returning to join the team for key North American events.

The Covert from Transition Bikes is their answer to the All Mountain rider's demands for a bike that can ride the whole mountain - the ups, the across and the downs. At 6 inches, it falls into suit with a lot of other All Mountain bikes, well how does it work on my local mountains and where I ride? We've had the Covert for 4 months of trail time and it's been all over British Columbia now and even in it's own back yard of northern Washington.

Here are some samples showing the production TR450 graphics and colors. There is a bit of a moto theme going with the red and yellow designs - a bit of shout out to the moto inspired "450" name. Both the red and the yellow frame graphics are clear coated over for durability and a clean look. The white frame has removable decals, with extras included so riders can really customize their setup. There may be some aftermarket TR450 decal kits sold by 3rd party companies, so the white frame is a great blank canvas.

Frames will begin shipping sometime in December.

This Saturday, October 17, BRMBA.org presents another Shuttle Day at the Blackrock trails in Falls City, Oregon, and this time Transition Bikes will be there pumping the party with a demo fleet of bikes!

"The main purpose of the trip was to visit some of our Canadian dealers in interior BC and to cover the Goat Style slopestyle event, but it turned out to be so much more than just marketing. Despite the 4+ hours of driving each day, it couldn't have been a better form of "work".

This year Transition Bikes has once again brought together their dealers and various media hoodlums for 2, 2 day gatherings in August. I attended the first get together last week where we talked shop and rode bikes, two things that the Transition boys seem to be doing a good job at.

"Kyle's always had the vision of having these jumps on Transition Bikes' property, so after a year of planning and moving a lot of dirt we've started to get somewhere. We've spent a bunch of time on our 'lunch breaks' digging, shaping, and watering the backyard jumps. Lines would get cut, ridden, and recut until we came up with something decent. It was great to finally officialize the whole thing with a backyard DJ Jam."

I've been to Blackrock a couple times now and every time there is always some form of new trail construction and extensive buffing of the existing trails. The trail network is large enough to support a full day worth of riding, mainly due to the fact that you have to pedal your feet to get yourself up the hill. To say that this trip was a bit different than my others is a vast understatement. Rich and Ryan of BRMBA organized a small industry-appreciation-style shuttle day in late April '09 for Transition Bikes and Race Face and had two trucks available to take us to the top. With friends, old and new, we enjoyed a great weekend of shuttle-shredding the minty fresh Oregon goodness!

Transition Bikes re-defines ‘all-mountain’ genre with an all new Covert.

Moving forward into a new realm of design, Transition Bikes has completely revamped the existing Covert all mountain bike to create a new 6” travel quiver-killing bike capable of more aggressive riding. The new Covert sports a refined frame at the same weight as the old model, but is significantly stronger. The new frame comes in at a respectable 6.7 lbs without rear shock, and builds up to a 28-32 lb bike made for efficient long days in the saddle.

What has dual 26" wheels and requires no more than a bit of chain lube for a full tune up? If you're thinking a singlespeed hardtail, you're right on the money. For years I've knocked singlespeeds for mountain biking anywhere that has fast trails with steep climbs and descents. I've watched good riders painfully struggle on climbs only to spin out and slow down when the trail points downhill, so I always questioned the point of it. To my surprise this bike has it's place, which just so happens to be the tight, technical trails in my backyard, which are so wet 6 months out of the year that I find myself picking rocks out of the corners of my eyes at dinner two nights later.

The latest offering from Transition Bikes is the new alloy Bank hardtail. The Bank represents the evolution of alloy hardtails in a superlight package that is worthy of almost any style of riding. The Bank is skilled at dirt jumping, 4X, Dual Slalom and overall trail shredding. At 4.9lbs it is definitely not a freeride hardtail but in the hands of a skilled rider it can handle almost any type of riding.

The fourth and final day in California took us on a wild ride. Instead of going out and hitting the Skate Park or riding dirt jumps, we went surfing! Isaac brought out a couple of his surfboards to let us give it a go. What I didn’t know was that Isaac is a pro surfer! How awesome is that, the first time we were learning to surf was being taught by a pro.

I grabbed the board and headed out first.

It has been a great trip so far and today wouldn’t have been a better riding day. The sun was shining and the bikes were rolling. Since yesterday we rode Skate Park, today we really wanted to ride some dirt. We headed over to National City to ride a local spot. The jumps were really cool, but they were really complicated. They went like long gap to short gap to shorter gap and just messed you up. They were really tiring as well. I took a break for 5 minutes and then grabbed my bike and both tires blew up, I was like WHAT THE &#$%! Not again! We were about to head to a bike shop to get them fixed when Chris saved me…again! He pulled out two tubes from his truck and once again, Chris thanks a lot man!

All right, so today started of really rad. Woke up early and found out that the jam didn’t start till 2pm. So Carl and I drove around San Diego and found a couple sick skate parks. Instead of being bums and chilling at our hotel, we decided to hit the beach for some photos. Then I decided I wanted to go swimming, so I went back to our rental car (yea we got a PT Cruiser) to change into my shorts.

It's been an exciting wait, I have never been so eager to go anywhere in my life. All last night I packed, got all of my bike gear ready to go and went to sleep. Although, it is not very easy to sleep when you are excited for the next day to come. It's like waiting on Christmas, only better!

This past weekend I lost my virginity and crossed the border. I never thought the United States would be so different than Canada.

I just got my L, so I wanted to drive across the border to see the crew at Transition Bikes. I totally had a brain fart and forgot that in the US you drive by miles per hour not kilometers per hour, so when we started to drive I was going about 80km and out of the corner of my eye I saw the speed limit sign and it read 50. Therefore I was like "Ah Crap! I don't want to get pulled over my first time in the states with my L". My Dad and Tyler just laughed at me. This would be one of the many things I learned on this trip.

The crew at Transition Bikes love to ride what they build and it was evident that they ride a lot by the way they charged on all the rides we did. The bikes they build are built to get out there and ride hard on, because that's what they do on them. Both days were filled with lots of riding and information on the company.

A few days ago I had the pleasure of attending Transition Bike Days down in Ferndale Washington. Transition is having two showings for their dealers and invited media to go over the changes that will be coming up in their model runs. That and to show everyone that they ride the bikes they make and the local trails that they ride those bikes on.

Once again the folks in Ferndale Washington have broken the mold on bicycle design. Transition Bikes latest hit comes in the form of a female specific freeride frame titled the Syren. So how does Transition define a freeride female specific bike? Simply by building a bike with the help of 30 female rippers based on the current trends they are seeing in all-mountain fun. A bike designed for bike parks, local trail networks and of course epic singletrack.

Ferndale, WA – June 16th 2008 -- Nelson BC native and freeride pioneer Mike Kinrade sings on with Transition Bikes for the 2008 Season. Kinrade is known for his big mountain riding and ability to build lines in the most remote and unique regions in North America. Known for his go big style, Kinrade is a veteran of all 4 Redbull Rampage contests and co-producer and rider in the video series "Stund". "Mike was a great fit for Transition and has one of the best work ethics in the industry. He also builds his own lines for movies and photo shoots which in my mind is one of the greatest assets a pro rider can have today. When you look at one of Mike's photos or videos shot in the high alpine in some of the most beautiful places in the world you can't help but get inspired to do the same, says Kevin Menard owner of Transition Bikes."

Mountain biking can be a tough sport for female riders to break into. We talk about progression, riding, coaching, and how things are changing for female riders.

Nicky is like many female riders - she got into mountain biking through her husband. However, in three seasons, she's gone from a timid noob who hadn't ridden a bike for twenty years to a confident intermediate rider. She knows what terrain she likes to ride, and now has that passion for mountain biking we can all relate to. Weekends are planned well in advance - who to ride with, and where. There's no time for long lazy days at the spa, a makeover, or shopping. It's all about riding the dirt, rock and gnar.

This past season I had the privilege of building two custom Transition Bicycles and understanding what's in a name.

I’ve been mountain biking for nearly 20 years now. It was only this last season that I took the turn towards full suspension. This is my story and I hope you like it.

Rider owned bike company, Transition Bikes announces a partnership with Yodo Agency, a division of Yodo Distribution to provide sales representation in selected provinces in Canada. Transition Bikes will continue to do all their own distribution into Canada. Yodo will cover all provinces except for British Columbia which Transition Bikes will continue to service. All existing Transition dealers in all provinces outside of BC will have the choice of dealing directly with Transition Bikes or with Yodo.

My idle hands have been itching for a build up again, so that is what I did. Since I am in no position to drop a lot of dough on a new bike, I decided to take my parts that were on my hard tail that isn't going to see any use this winter and look at squishy frame options to swap the parts to for a winter Vedder machine. I was looking for a short travel frame that was front derailleur capable, would accept a 135x10mm rear wheel and handle a 6" single crown fork all while stoking me out during this fall/winter riding season that is upon us.

Rider owned bike company, Transition Bikes announces their latest prototype bike the Siren. The Siren represents one of the first female specific freeride bikes on the market. The frame features 6” of rear wheel travel, a light but burly frame design, female friendly geometry and a new look and feel targeted specifically to women. The Siren will be available in 3 sizes with a small fitting girls 5’0”-5’4”, medium 5’5”-5’9” and the large 5’10”-6’3. Complete bikes are weighting in around 33 lbs for a light built to 38 lbs for a burlier build.

Transition Bikes has signed Dylan Tremblay to their factory team for the remaining 07 season and upcoming 2008 season. Dylan has long been know as one of the original Dirtbag riders that everyone can relate to. Dylan’s style is very diverse but he specializes in park and dirt jumping but also has a love for trail building and big mountain riding. For this year Dylan’s main ride will be a baby blue Trail-or-Park hardtail but he will also be running the full suspension dirt jump bike the Double and the short travel freeride bike the Preston FR.

Transition bikes is proud to announce the launching of their new full length DVD "Will Ride 4 Food." This will be a film featuring all of the transition factory riders including Mike Metzger, Evan Holmgren, Dylan Trembley, "Hacksaw" Jim Severt, Andy Grant, Travis "Crappis" Erikson, Trent Kidd, JS, Zach Hensley, Brad Walton, and Carl Buchanan.

The Blindside is Transition Bikes new 8” rear travel DH frame that is replacing the Gran Mal. The new Blindside frame is lighter, lower and has shorter stays to give it better handling characteristics as well as making it a more versatile frame for DH and freeride disciplines.

With Halloween just behind us, most of you are probably sick of Bottle Rockets. However this is no ordinary bottle rocket. This is a 5.5 inch travel free ride/ slope style bike, called the Bottle Rocket. A bike built for new school trails where stunts are big and smooth , but you may need to pedal up to the trail head. The Bottle Rocket is built by the rider owned Transition Bicycle Company based out of Ferndale Washington in the U.S.A.

For 2006 Transition Bikes introduced a few new models to their line up of bikes. The Gran Mal, with up to 8.7 inches of rear travel, is a great addition to their already stellar line up. You can tell these guys ride hard because this bike is made to take any punishment you can dish out. I did a lot of free riding and racing on the Gran Mal the season and it loved to get beat up and keep coming back for more. Ferndale, WA – Rider owned bike company, Transition Bikes launches their 2007 website. The new site includes two new models for 07, the Double and the Covert. The Double is a 3.5” travel frame with dirt jump hardtail geometry that makes it perfect for big dirt jumps and BMX tracks. The Covert is the new 5.5” all mountain frame that is ideal for aggressive trail riding. In addition to the new frames many of the existing bikes have new designs including the DirtBag and Mountain Biking Magazine's Bike of the Year the Preston FR.

Rider owned bike company, Transition Bikes announces Evan Holmgren as the newest member to their sponsored factory team. Evan will be riding a Trail-or-Park hardtail and BottleRocket for 2007. Evan has a long history of being involved with the progression of freeriding in the North Shore area, especially dirt jumping and park riding.

What does a mechanical engineering student do the weekend before finals? Study? Nope, he goes on a mountain biking road trip. Well, at least that is what I did. I left Moscow Idaho Thursday night and headed for Newport Washington. I arrived at Mike Metzger’s house two hours later. Mike and I planned out our trip for the weekend while watching Ryan Denehy’s last movie The New Deal. We sealed our plans and fell asleep nice and early for the drive in the morning.

Designed for the new evolution of freeriding, the BottleRocket is all about flow and style while riding. The progression of trail building has changed dramatically in the last few years. Long gone are the days of building trails with seven foot drops to flats and ultra steep fall line trails where you lock your brakes up the entire way down. Trails are starting to look more like big mountain slopestyle parks with wall rides, big gap doubles, hips and berms.

A couple weeks back, the owners of Transition Bikes were in our neck of the woods riding their shiny new Gran Mal's with some of their team members from Washington. They were also here to deliver a few bikes to be abused (er-tested) by the Pinkbike R&D crew. After seeing what they were doing on the new machine, we were keen to get out and ride the Gran Mal ourselves.
