May 24th, 2022

Henry and Ben Cathro take you behind the scenes at the Fort William World Cup race.

Join Ben Cathro and me on another episode of the Pinkbike Racing Podcast. This week, the team riders took part in a brutally wet Fort William World Cup and came out with some results to make it all worthwhile.

This week, we talk about the logistics of running a team, why on earth the junior categories aren't televised, as well as the brooding overall battle between Jordan William and Jackson Goldstone, plus the results from the weekend.

Seems pretty major that Henry's the mechanic & Ben's the main rider for PB and got what, 24th at the 2nd WC race - and out of retirement too. Higher placement than a lotta riders from super-slush fund teams. That's effin' stellar homies. Congrats - and by all means lobby PB to keep the podcast under the PB podcast.

Keep in mind lots of us would kick down cold hard cash on this team if asked to. I'd think more of us (esp the hardcore Beta-Zeta's) would kick in even a few bucks, kickstarter style, to keep you guys in coffees, goo, fuel, chamois's (chamoi?), etc. Lots of creative ways this could be done for extra racing money.

Forgot to say that the Jr riders (sorry, names not off toppa my head) did pretty damn well too. Seriously, PB ramped it up - not bad at all for the Right Amount of Stupid.

@henryquinney @mikelevy: That 'Ben-in-white-tights / Vince Neil" comment (etc) sound VERY Levy-esque, along w/ that next intro line. Honest question - did Levy write that or was that pure Henry verbiage?

Also: podcast idea (even for PB) - how about an interview w/ the PB Jr Riders? Most of us don't know jack about 'em.

Haha! Haven't quite stooped to outsourcing intros to Levy yet. Never say never though! Will in due course. On travel days it's almost a max exodus. On back to back world cups it'll be easier to snag other personalities in - juniors included.

@henryquinney: Good to know but you gotta admin, Levy's intros (and esp the busts on Kaz) do kinda make the pod - do stick with that format at least, its reallllllllllly good.

Devil's Avocado is something I'll defiantly be stealing from you Henry, thanks for the laugh.

Very interesting about Redbull’s stance on not broadcasting Juniors racing - and live that makes sense, tho Juniors could still be shown after pro as recorded. After at, its Redbulls own damn station & timeline so while they have plenty of time to show Gaming, Flugtag, Soapbox - all of which are sideshows & gaming which is purely laughable - they don't have 30 minutes to show Juniors DH? I dont buy that.

Basically RB is saying BS like gaming - which has its own stream on Redbull TV - is more interesting than Juniors (or even Redbull Formation). Clearly Formation was not a competitive format and hopefully RB can pull a 2-3 hrpost-event video or series from because we all know the footage is there - clips are far less interesting in either case.

So to the point: seriously Redbull… you have gaming channels and wacky events but Juniors DH, even recorded for showing later is not an option? f*cking please….

Amazing results PB Racing! The noise for Cathro on his run was ridiculous, one of the loudest of the day. @henryquinney apologies for a drunk incoherent 'hello' I was supposed so say congrats on the weekend and that I love the podcast but it had been a long day on the beers - I was on a stag do to be fair. Keep up the awesome work, looking forward to the next WC.

Brilliant, loving the Pinkbike Racing team, mega performance from a standing start. I see a Netflix "Ride to Survive" series in your future.

Was is bombshell that Cathro dropped? Or maybe a bollock? Ether way, it sounded heavy.

Fair point. However, I think it would be respectable if they made us pay for the " it's all DH from hear" podcast and left the other ones free.

If yr a Beta subscriber then yr paying for the team & cast the way its set up now and would apparently have to subscribe to keep getting the pod (if the stick with that plan). I'm not - have too many subscriptions now, don't need more - but I'd personally rather just help pay for racing & the pod straight up vs. having to subscribe to Beta to help out. Haven't even checked Beta out and all I hear is endless grievance and whining about it here (boo f*cking hoo, so sad) but it seems the percent PB Racing could raise even if all of us subscribed to Beta would be petty vs. what we could fundraise for the team for the hell of it. Thoughts? Just thinking out loud...

It was a great show. Thank you for this

Cathro in the tight whites is still easier to look at than cathro racing in the orange mojo black gimp suit....
