Oh look.... Another steel gravel bike?!

Well, yes and no.

Radical has recently announced the launch of the newest UK manufactured model to the fleet; the 'PINZ'

Interesting name, right? Well, the name actually has an interesting background aswell; the 'PINZ' is abbreviated from the name 'Pinzgauer', an AWD high mobility vehicle used by the British Army, and the very regiment Radicals founder (Kieran) served in. It was designed to carry troops and equipment over almost any terrain, and on top of this, was available in a number of variations to suit its deployment - simply known by soldiers as the 'PINZ'.

So you can see where this is heading... so whats it all about?

Radical place this as a versatile adventure platform, with the option to be set up in a number of different variations aiming it more at the aggressive end of gravel/back country exploration. This model is actually the successor of a now discontinued model, the Surveyor, which was described as a 'progressive gravel bike'. From this, it was evident from very early on that this original platform could become much more.

Just like the actual 'PINZ', this bike has been designed to tackle a variety of terrain, from tarmac to trail. This incorporates a number of features that give it a greater versatility over your regular gravel/bikepacking bikes:

- Clearance has been increased to 29 x 2.3inch tires
- Centred around a longer MTB rigid fork, giving a much taller stack and stable riding position
- Boost spacing and a 73mm bottom bracket for improved stability and a greater selection of 1x drivetrains
- Internal routing for a dropper post
- A longer, slacker front end, whilst still keeping a short effective top tube length for that all day comfort
- Drop bar and Flat bar friendly, recommended stem length 40-70mm max
- Flat mount brakes have been ditched to a standard IS mount, giving a wider selection of braking options

On top of this, each frame is individually made to order in UK.

This means there is also the option for a full bespoke package, where you can customise the frames geometry and features to your hearts content.

Following in line with the other UK made frames, Radical utilises a tri-blend of Reynolds steel tubing (853/631/525) to give a greater blend of strength, compliance and weight. But if the bespoke package is not for you, there are 3x 'stock' sizes available at a slightly lower price point. Here are some key numbers:

- Sizes Small (390mm reach/550mm ETT), Medium (420mm reach/ 582mm ETT), Large (450mm reach/ 614mm ETT)
- 68deg Headangle
- 76deg Seatangle
- 440mm chainstay length
- 80mm BB drop

With each frame being individually made to order, custom coating is all part of the package, with metallic/gloss/matte finishes all inclusive.

The frame naturally remains true to its roots, still keeping load space and carrying capacity at the forefront of the design. This means there is plenty of clearance for all your bikepacking gear and a large number of mounts to accompany this. Radical is also currently working on their own steel fork option, which will also come with its own individual mounting options.

But what about those bills?

Costs for a full UK made frame are as below, with a quoted lead time of approximately 12 weeks.

- Stock Sizes (S/M/L): £1,250.00 gbp
- Custom Package (+£100): £1,350.00 gbp

International shipping is available on all frames.
