The World Cup is home to the fastest, most skilled riders on the planet, but it's also where you'll find unreleased prototype bikes, a lot of broken components, and maybe even a little subterfuge. Episode 103 sees former World Cup mechanic and Pinkbike tech editor Henry Quinney sit down with me to chat about some of the wild shit he's seen during his time turning wrenches at the sport's highest level.

Henry explains why things aren't always as they seem, how he ran out of rims at one particularly rowdy race, the time he saw someone gluing fake fork dials on, and plenty of other behind-the-scenes stories.

I've never been more disappointed with the comment section and the amount of whining than I am right now - most of you people make me want to unplug the internet and never turn it back on.

We enjoy working like dogs to make this stuff, none of which is behind a so-called paywall and none of it will be going behind a paywall; not the Field Tests (which are growing for next year), not the reviews, not the podcasts, not the Grim Donut. Everything you saw on the homepage before will still be free to look at, and not only that, we're making more content than ever before and have more staff to create it than ever before.

But here we are, in the comment section for a free podcast that comes after yesterday's free podcast and before tomorrow's free podcast, and you people are f*cking bitching and whining about NOTHING. If you're not into it, JUST DON'T CLICK ON THE BETA STORY. It's that easy. It's okay to be upset about change, BUT NOTHING HAS BEEN TAKEN FROM YOU. The reality is that we've added more content for you.

Nothing has been taken away from you, but your assumptions, accusations, and complaining takes something away from the people who listen, watch, and read what we create and enjoy the interaction that comes from it.

Come on Mike… look at it from the other angle. Folks simply thought so well of Pinkbike fir it being more real than other MTB media outlets. Let’s be honest NSMB has this “we don’t have this site entirely under control vibe”, Vital is pretty much too cool for themselves, Spoomer could be Joe Rogans buddy Brian Redban buying dick pills off the gas station. But I canstill respect that

Aaaand… the rest is pretty much utter tasteless BS. Bikeradar reviews oh this bicycle has a handlebar and if you twist it turns. GCN… Jesus fricking Christ. You watch this and wonder if you still remember how it feels to please a woman. Dorky helmets and shoe covers.

So these people care, they are just… fkng snowflakes. Pathetic snowflakes… they will moan on free stuff. Keep doing what you are doing, even though you should push a harder gear on slippery climbs.

Cheers!

@mikelevy - (My initial comments got removed on this b****-fest comment section here... and I can't even seem to access them on any devices meaning they were removed but whatever...)

My whole point was 1) this is Henry's moment so 2) people please stop it with the 52 comments about BS paywall / ad comments and 3) wanna talk paywall - how about $5000 to $10000 bikes? Thats enough to make yr repro organs shrivel right back up the spine.

People - go the effing forum for all your Bigfoot / Ancient Alien / Bermuda Triangle paywall & Beta ad gripes instead of poo-flinging the comment section on every homepage article - especially one about Henry.

Anyway - THANK EFFIN GOD for Henry here - the man's brain didn't fry up w/ this fungal experience, he's sharp, obviously a better mechanic that 99% of us, and still has more sayings & phrases than anyone and while he's not the 2nd favorite Mike, he's our 1st favorite Henry.

 @mikelevy:

Ignore the idiots, they must enjoy the content as they’re still here. I guess maybe they’re just afraid of something they value so much, maybe misguided passion?

This is probably the best MTB publication let’s be real

This podcast was super interesting. I love you and Henry's banter and came here after listening for some sweet comments about racing life. Got some great insights on how race bikes are set up differently and was hoping to see some other tips here. Instead I just see unrelated complaining about something entirely different.... Come on people. The Podcasts don't even have any ads.
  • 7 0
i would hate to see the comment section cause so much controversy that PB decides to take it down. I listen to you guys on my way to work every morning and read the comments every night. Love the interaction here and comment gold is such a good part of the episodes. Thanks for all the hard work you do, id gladly pay a small fee every month to support this. Keep on keepin on
  • 2 0
 Agree, and duly notedt
the same as last time, everyone whinging and moaning.
From myself, thank you I appreciate all the podcasts , some of the best MTB podcast out there, but that’s just my opinion.
I enjoy all of them and look forward to them each week.
Thank you.
  • 7 1
@mikelevy You guys make content worth paying for. If it ever does come to that I'll cash in some of my privilege and pay. Just don't stop starting the podcasts with "Hey Pinkers" (hey world?). That is change too far.
  • 4 0
Well, I enjoyed the podcast. Especially the difference in priorities between shop and race mechanics. I'd never really considered that before. Tomorrow I shall don my Race Mechanic hat and tighten that seat post collar bolt up to 60Nm Smile
  • 7 0
Mike, just try and ignore the whiners they'll get bored and give up soon enough.

The podcast is great! Has anyone ever tried listening to some of the climbing podcasts, sooo many ads for hilarious wellness guff.

Also it amuses me that people from FREEDOM land are bitching. Don't you guys have ads on TV every 60s or something? Aren't your sports designed around ads? I'm surprised the DH tracks in the US don't have a mandatory pitstop where the riders have to pull in and take a sip of their sponsored drink or whatever...
  • 2 0
So true your words, I am not computer savvy at all and I can navigate around this stuff just fine and it doesn't wreck my day and have to bitch and complain about something you can avoid altogether. Honestly this was really interesting and we should probably thank Henry for his sharing.
  • 5 0
I, for one, actually appreciate the Beta articles being shown in the PB feed. Yes, I SOMEHOW manage to scrape together $2 per month (insert dentist joke here) to subscribe to Beta and get the print edition, which I love. It’s nice to have all the content I like in one feed.

Like others have said, if you are morally opposed to paying people for their work, just ignore it and stop whining about the fact that now you are aware of other content that exists. It’s so f*king annoying.
  • 3 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: it wasn’t removed bro, just down voted to hell cause it was stupid.

Keep up the good work Levy.

Came here to post about how awesome and enlightening the podcast with HQ was. Found so much bitching and moaning that it made me not want to read through the rest. The door is right over there.
  • 2 0
Just came here to say that I really liked this episode! Thanks
  • 5 2
You reap what you sow. This is the environment you’ve been working so hard to create, don’t be surprised when it bites back from time to time.
  • 3 0
@DHhack: I think you've just made the best point here: the Paywall Cartel who keeps whining about paywall / ads (which we've not seen yet) are literally creating the shite environment here they claim to wanna avoid

Im not ever gonna subscribe to Outside or Beta unless I get tires, weekly massages, and a signed 1st Favorite Mike t-shirt and poster….but PB content is easily worth paying for as-is w/o Outside / Beta - but PB hasn't needed to do that bc of the ad revenue they get (I assume). The podcast alone is the best thing of my week, hands down (and there are f*cking 3 this week!)

Anyway - thanks to PB, The Mikes, Sarah, Henry & Brian for the awesome casts and everyone else for the radness that is PB - its the Lochness Monster / Bigfoot conspiracy nuts that are what sucks on PB… theyre like never being able to get rid of tapeworms
  • 6 5
Well pb users are entitled to whatever opinion they have. Then go close comments altogether. Just because you don't like the opinion of "the mob" doesn't mean it's wrong. Yeah, outside probably did not expect that much backlash, but now it's here and it's not "the users" fault. I will complain about YouTube putting away the dislike numbers and will support people b*tching about beta content. If you don't like your job then go, but don't go whine about the comments. By the way Mike you do a great job at pb (and everybody else here too! You are the #1 mtb site for a reason). But don't get triggered on the internet because something didn't go as expected. You made a decision (or outside or whoever). Now stick to it. Or reverse it, I don't care, it's your business. The thing is, whining about whiners doesn't help the situation at all.
  • 6 0
@daweil: They just communicated that they are sad how it turns out... when people don't communicate it becomes like resume on LinkedIN. Tasteless crap. Backlash from "the community" can happen at any moment and this "lovely community" can turn anything into a sht storm. anything. Ask me how I know...

We should have far more empathy for people creating content than folks who come to the party for free. They got free snacks, free 3 meal dinner, as much beer and wine they want and boy, they loose their sht because someone asked them to pay if they want single malt. Actually we should show appreciation like many sensible people here do.

It's Mike & Mike, Henry, Sarah (and so on) house and a sensible host not only has right to express their opinion to moronic guest - he/she should express it for the wellbeing of those who behave. Don't like it? There's the door and don't come back, there's plenty of other parties they can ruin with their eminence

 well said Mr Levy!!! Smile

While admittedly I didn't like the change and lets face it change makes us all nervous, it is nothing more than one more ad on the page. Somedays the PB homepage is plastered with ads (god love you Norco, but please stop it with those colors, I am literally blind from fluro italics).

We have all been staring at ads for years. As I look now there is almost 20 ads on the homepage and an entire section dedicated to listing out the advertisers that Im guessing is 20% of the entire page width and a full page long. And now 1 web banner is causing people to have a seizure?

Just go to CNN, FOX, in fact any news site and tell me the ads bother you to the point you cannot read the news.

You say you love contributions from @mikelevy , @mikekazimer and the whole PB team, but how do think these people they get paid, where does it all come from? [Insert Santa Cruz and Specialized conspiracy theory here]. Without advertising they eventually dont get paid and without more advertising you are are unlikely to get more content.

So go get your bubba and settle down people, there is nothing to see here except your own anxiety and internal anger. Settle back in your chair, use that scroll button and be the happy.

@noplacelikeloam: Beautifully stated, couldn't'a said it better

Great podcast. Love the difference in personalities on the podcast. Sorry you have to listen to the load minority complain. Keep up the good work and keep the podcasts coming.
  • 107 35
I am getting more annoyed about the "Beta" inserts into Pinkbike!
  • 2 0
Are you just referring to the posts on the homepage? Or are they talking about Beta on the podcast too?
  • 37 5
Right. Can we get a filter that block the Beta inserts like the e-bike filter?
  • 20 5
@brandaneisma: "squeaky wheel gets the grease" it seems like we would need a large majority of commenters to complain on every post (which sucks for the people making the articles and putting in the effort) that we don't want to see it or have an option to not see it. Basically every post needs to be derailed into trying to have an opt-out of Outside's hustle to buy there shit. Which sucks because that derails any good commenting that happens on occasion.
  • 5 3
@Sniff303: I completely agree or either that we need the majority of the commenters to boycott commenting
  • 2 1
Came here to say exactly the same thing!
  • 6 0
Just use ad block to block that element. do it once and you'll never see them again. They're just ads, not sure why everyone (not you!!!) is calling them a paywall
  • 1 2
@sorryiamtheboss: We aren't calling them a paywall (though some of them are paywalled once you follow the link) they are just an indicator that a paywall is coming. Exageration is a thing
  • 7 6
@sorryiamtheboss: So...where are people seeing all this? I'm not seeing nuttin' - just the PB pages. Maybe my privacy screens already sift this out (?) Dunno WTF everyone's bitching about - esp here on Henry's interview focus. I'm not seeing ads anywhere (other than the fact that this entire f*cking site is dedicated to hawking bike shit & services... seems like its almost nothing BUT ads more or less, by virtue of articles about all the stuff we want & buy. Guessing I'm just confused about the insane level of woke-ass self righteousness when this podcast 'article' is specifically about Henry.
  • 1 2
@mervyn1 Get used to it. Within a year it'll be just the opposite, mostly Beta / Outside "exclusive" stuff, sprinkled w/ a few useless articles for the PB Plebs.
  • 3 3
@krka73: that's the thing. We won't because we'll stop reading. This is my last hurrah
  • 3 0
@brandaneisma: They have no choice but to do this. There's no way they'll be allowed to give users an easy option to filter it out. Your option is to not open the pages, do not add to the traffic. If enough people avoid them, perhaps Outside will stop having them included. Or the traffic will be sufficient and they'll stay. All you can control is what you open to read.

If they follow what seems to be the plan, which is to make in depth and exclusive, enriched, paid content on Beta and free content here, it is only logical that to do so and make it work they'll have to reduce or adjust the level of content that is PB Original so it doesn't compete with Beta paid content (theoretically they could just smash Beta content out of the park to drive subscriptions, but imo it woul dbe hard to top some of the PB Original content). I can only hope that the awesome staff at PB would walk away if Outside begins to throttle their content... many of us would follow.
  • 5 0
Yet all the other ads inserted on the page don't annoy you? Just keep scrolling.
  • 2 0
@noplacelikeloam: Amen! And how about this paywall: $10,000 for a bike you have to pedal. Mine's not cheap, but that's a paywall and cockblock far worse than actual paywalls or ads. And really - what isn't an ad here anyway from articles about gear to the riders riding them. We're here exactly to see all that. I think people just wanna gripe and why it had to completely wreck the comment section for Henry's podcast is beyond me - obviously a slap in the face to the man on what was an excellent podcast. Go Henry, and ignore all these conspiracy nuts.
  • 1 0
Poor Henry! Woe be it for the person unlucky enough to get slotted right above a Beta ad.
  • 1 0
@Supergirl56: lol what's your deal? Your like the ringleader of the PB paywall conspiracy. If you don't like what you see, why the hell are you still commenting and reading?
  • 49 0
Well this was one of THE best podcasts yet, some great insight from Henry and fun too. Definitely want more of this! I guess current mechs dont wanna blab but maybe find some other ex mechanics and share the knowledge!!! :-)
  • 30 0
Yup, lots more to come. I'll have some other WC mechanics on in the near future.
  • 4 0
 @mikelevy: Great podcast today!

I'm interested how it is on the XC side. Do the teams do nerdy rolling resistance tests? How many wheels get toast during a season? Would also love some thoughts directly from the teams on the extreme positions and why / why not to run a dropper for certain courses.
  • 3 0
One of my favourite ones too!

It sounded like it abruptly ended though, is there a part two in the works?
  • 3 0
@mikelevy: awesome podcast, I've been waiting to hear these stories for ages too! I enjoyed this and will continue to enjoy future PB content, despite other people's comments.

You and your colleagues work hard and do a damn good job. I can't help but feel that a lot of people getting their knickers in a twist here just don't understand the pervasiveness of the modern corporate world. It's in every sector, it's everywhere and short of a Marxist uprising (workers unite!) it's not going anywhere. You're doing a great job of navigating the BS and working with the system just enough to adapt and keep PB going. Props to you all, haters gonna hate.

The main worry I have is that no-one seems to have noticed that a certain Mike Levy isn't in China curling for Canada, that is surely the greatest outrage of our time?!!
  • 2 0
@mikelevy: please can you try and get Jacy on one? Or a Jacy and Sam Hill booking, oh my!
  • 54 24
Hey @henryquinney and @mikelevy - wanted to apologize to the both of you on behalf of the PB podcast fans who came here to comment / read about Henry's Mechanic Antics but were instead treated to a pathetic wall of verbal feces thrown out by self-righteous bike-trolls upset that paywall articles or ads are popping up elsewhere on the PB site. Boo mother f***ing Hoo Hoo Hoo.

What a dishonor to Henry - "hey, lets dump all over the comments here because Beta wants us to subscribe...and I saw the world "Outside" on the banner....waaaaaaaah"! This is what matters in here? Henry already doesn't give 3 shits about you so flinging poo at Beta & Outside in the comments doesn't make him or Levy care any more. It only makes it stink more than the ads & paywalls you despise. I also give 3 shits about Outside or Beta: but have some respect - the podcast comment section here is not the place to whine like a mall teenager for 50 posts - ITS ABOUT HENRY.

Talk about complete and total disrespect for Henry and Mike - and total lack of perspective...ask them to listen to Henry rant for a hour and they'll write a f*cking dissertation on Why Pinkbike Has Sold Out to The Devil. Get a grip on reality - if you don't like the podcast then goto the Forum or just leave.

@Supergirl56: You didn't offend me - I'm not offendable and I hear & share your passion about keeping PB as PB - I'm just saying all this shit-smearing on Henry's cast article takes away from him and doesn't actually add anything the "core" PB people don't already know. I'm already on your side and in the choir but throwing crap at the wall here doesn't change anything, just makes it stink more.

I hear you on the issues but it also seems pure silliness compared to 1) how much we pay for bikes & gear 2) made by companies owned by companies owned by other companies that 3) have ads everywhere on this (and every) bike wesite via direct ads & articles or riders using those products - its 1st World Problems.

Outside+ & Beta mean nothing to me - this is about perspective. If I could snap & send 'em packing I'd do it - otherwise I just ignore their content - will never subscribe and if it all gets paywalled then so be it, I leave. To say that PB makes crap however, is nonsense - they still produce easily the best podcasts of them all - which this is about (Henry) . More so - if you don't like Beta, why would you even want to read the Beta article? Just ignore it and move on. Easy.

@Mtn-Goat-13: i agree the podcast is great BUT outside has only owned pinkbike for a few months. I'm not saying it will get worse now.
I also wrote that mostly to educate people who don't know. I'm well award that a lot of commenters agree
  • 3 2
@Supergirl56: Seems productive to be afraid of change that hasn't even happened yet and complaining about how its inevitable to happen one day so you're going to be mad today. Lol. Let me guess...slippery slope right?
  • 2 2
@Supergirl56: Heard on that (and btw I wasn't lambasting you personally, just the whole "PB punched me in the arm..." dynamic when all these posts, in my view, should be about Henry's WC mechanic time. I get what you're saying but if someone just joined Outside or Beta, I can't see that these comments are gonna make them ask for a refund (?) I hope PB doesn't get paywalled in total, and that would be truly lame - but nothing I've seen content-wise, comment-wise or in the cast lately remotely tells me that The Mikes and anyone else are now licking corporate ballsacks most of the time.

But here's a paywall for ya: just the cost of buying a good bike, not even counting a good bike rack, tools, gear and doing all yr own work. By that I mean this is a 99.9% white privileged white-people sport & pastime that most people can't afford even at entry level prices. When I tell non-riders (and noobs) my bike cost $5000 they are stunned - when I say that's just a mid-level bike they look at me like I'm captain of the Doctor Ferrari Yacht Club at the Hamptons. My point is - our entire sport is a paywall, so I'm not surprised to see paywalls for ads about whiteys riding $100,000 worth of bikes in a single video or ads anywhere for anything at any time these days (uh, ever watch Youtube)? I've been the king of ignoring ads for decades and that's what I'll do here.

Anyway, I wanna talk about Henry...
  • 2 3
Oh and sorry @henryquinney - the TikTok / Facebook "downvote" team and function here shows that my comment is "unpopular" and no one really gives a shit about your own PB cast show - they just wanna 1) bitch & complain about paywalls & ads; 2) make every comment a popularity contest and 3) and best of all - not have to read someone else's thoughts they don't agree with...that would be horrible!!! Remove it from their sight!!!
  • 3 0
@Mtn-Goat-13: for being unoffendable that downvote function seems to ruffle some feathers...
  • 2 2
Where exactly are we supposed to voice these frustrations then? Comment sections are the only place unless you have a better suggestion. You came here to lambaste people for "disrespecting" the podcast participants/subject matter, but the comments are totally unrelated to the podcast, everyone knows Levy and Henry and all the other editors are not at fault. This is a design failure and an inevitability, having no outlet for criticism. I was so harsh to the outside memers and told them to f*ck off and actually wait to see what happens. Well now we're seeing.
  • 1 2
@Sniff303: I'm not offended by downvoting - i think its annoying and Chinese. People are obviously welcome to smear crap all over the comment wall here and likewise (aside from it being total nonsense) detracts from the actual content - Henry. Down & upvotes are
for teenagers - cant believe it even exists on PB
  • 48 23
I guess I shouldn't have been so hard on the Outside+ memers. This really is a major disappointment and I really will just go to Vital for my MTB news from now on, because they don't force content from *completely separate publications* into the news feed.
We have a choice to consume the media we want, so I will change my opinions and assumptions about Pinkbike caring what the users think anymore, and I hope others do too. If I wanted to read Beta I'd go and read Beta. What the f*ck pinkbike.
  • 5 4
It's Outside not @sarahmoore or @brianpark or any of the other editors making this decision. It's Outside telling them to do it and whether they like it or not they have to if they want to keep their jobs.

@notoutsideceo: they got some beta shite for your e-gravel bike here now
  • 9 0
My fave is nsmb.com. Less content, but it's deeper content, and feels oh so not corporate. In a perfect world, the OG Pinkbike crew would jump ship and start their own thing. But I'm sure they signed non-competes so....*sigh*

Simple - just don't click on the links and direct your traffic to the PB Original content. Let the traffic tell the story.

They are definitely making changes to the site they said wouldn't happen but we knew were coming
  • 10 4
Where is the paywall? I am confused

Edit: It you're talking about the Beta articles, they're just embedded ads and a single point and click with ad block removes them forever.
  • 5 5
@sorryiamtheboss: It's not here yet but those BETA mtb articles on the homepage and Outside's track record are a pretty good indicator that it's coming
  • 50 3
@Supergirl56 - Where are the changes that we said wouldn't happen but are happening? The content is still free and will continue to be free, including the Field Test, Grim Donut, reviews, podcasts, and the other stuff. Your comment is fake news and very disheartening when the people at PB work their balls off to make this stuff... this stuff that's not behind a paywall. I encourage you to leave now and not come back if you think we're lying to you.

@CarbonShmarbon - Where is the paywall? And what's behind it? Absolutely nothing that PB has made, that's for sure. The Beta stories? When I'm on the internet and see something I don't want to read, I usually just don't click on it. Crazy strategy but it works, I swear.

@mikelevy: I know what I said but me from this morning is a f*cking idiot. There are no changes happening that you all said wouldn't happen, and thus far there is no paywall. The reason I wrote ALL of my comments on here was to draw attention to what has happened to other acquisitions of Outside. I chose to use Pinkbike as my example because I have the most attachment to this site. I never said Pinkbike would go behind a paywall, I just said it was a possibility based on Outside Inc's other acquisitions. I hope Pinkbike never goes behind a paywall or at least that the stuff behind the paywall is mostly bonus content. I understand that you guys work really hard and I have so much respect for you guys. This website is nothing if not a labor of love built by all you editors and presenters. I can see how this comments section is very disheartening and I would like to apologize for that.

This site is one of the main reasons I love MTB as much as I do. For four years I was unable to do any real MTB due to my geographical location, and this site was my only connection to the community. I really love the community this site has, and I hope it stays that way. I won't take back my 1300 word comment, but I hope with all of my heart that it will be proven wrong.

My opinions and fears are just some of many, and I hope that in the future this site will remain, the free, goofy, and fun entity it is for years to come.

Also my apologies @sarahmoore for posting that comment on like 6 articles. That was stupid of me and honestly, if I were you I would have just banned me.

I recognize that I am very young (17) so all of y'all with more life experience feel free to correct me whenever. I welcome criticism.

I'm sorry if my words today made any of you want to quit, because Pinkbike truly brings some much needed joy to my lifeSmile

Great episode Ps shire crew needs to be thanked for their work but FUCK THE PAY WALL.
  • 24 19
This website is awesome but it is slowly losing it's identity and becoming just another Outside controlled zombie publication. It's actually quite sad because this place is something special. There aren't any other sites with such an awesome comment section. RIP the good version of Pinkbike

@Supergirl56: Do you realize that the people who create this content read your comments, right? And you're insinuating that I do this work for "just another Outside controlled zombie publication." I get that you're commenting because you care and don't want to see this place change, but I can see your comment history and am blown away by the things you're saying. Nothing has changed, none of the stuff we currently make is going behind a paywall, and we're actually adding to the already massive amount of content to make more for you that's not going behind a paywall.

Mike we don’t hate you or what you do. In fact we all love it. We just hate that Pinkbike and mountain biking sold out. It’s not your fault so don’t think people getting mad about what your doing. They are mad about major company trying to take Pinkbike and commercial
It. It’s alreadly bad enough the ceo is a roadie @mikelevy:

Henry is so good. Absolutely love his analogy of how being nervous can work in your favor, such as when riding a green trail where you blatantly aren't paying attention and potentially have a catastrophic crash... Versus a rough black where you're so focused and present you're much less likely to fall as you're hyper aware of what you can and can't do on the trail. Not sure I'd personally take that attitude towards wrenching on bikes for the world's best athletes, but it shows what kinda person Henry is that he embraced that challenge.

While the paywall articles are easy enough to scroll past, it's the future that they represent. Pay for buy n sell. Pay to see any racing coverage. Pay to make and read comments. It's all simply a matter of time.

@Supergirl56: Shroombike. The rumor has it that if you pay for Outside+ you can't see my comments. Many would sign up for that.
  • 22 1
@DBone95 @Supergirl56 - No, you're 100% wrong and making shit up. Nothing that was free to see before will go behind a paywall, not the race coverage, not the Field Tests, not the Grim Donut, and not the reviews or the podcasts. Not only that, there's more free content than ever before and we've hired even more staff to make more content than we've ever had. But here you are making up stuff in the comments...

I’d pay to not see @Supergirl56 bullshit comments. @mikelevy since you’re allegedly the paywall overlord, can you make it happen? Just put their comments outside, I don’t mind if it needs to go through a beta phase first.

I for one actually kind of enjoying seeing the Beta content on the Pinkbike homepage. Today's article about the Shire was awesome and it's something I wouldn't otherwise have seen. It would be nice to have an indicator though, maybe an icon, when the content is for Outside+ members only. This seems like one of those cases where a minority of loud people are over represented in comments. Kudos to the PB team for all you guys do!

Not going to address the paywall issue. Way more important ue to deal with. Enjoyed the podcast. Enjoy them all. Makes my end of the week better. Thanks!

Beta must be on its deathbed for these kind of desperation moves making trying to make it visible on Pinkbike. This feels like a half-assed attempt to try and keep Beta afloat. I'll be surprised if Beta even exists in another year.

This isn’t related to this podcast… but maybe a future topic?
It would be nice to have some more insight into product reliability and warranty stuff…
I bought a fox factory 36 and the CSU is creaking & cracking a couple months into my second season. This is a very common problem for fox & If you search the internet it is very apparent that they have an issue. Fox only offer a one year warranty on their forks. Is that one year warranty really fair for someone that lives & rides in a climate that only allows them to be on the bike 6-7 months a year?
Thanks for making the podcast & putting it out there for all of us

I usually come to cry or complain. That was a badass episode.

Totally incredible show guys. So many insights and gems hidden amidst an entertaining format.

On the imaginary elephant in the room, I get why people are scared about their favorite website being turned into a money machine, and I get why they’re trying to call out the process as early as possible to keep from being the frog that got boiled. I share those fears.

But holy f*ck guys. It’s bad enough that every time we get the CT digest ignorant f*cktards bitch about outside “forcing” them to think about road biking. As if no mountain biker could possibly get some value out of seeing another side of the cycling community. Apparently the fact these were happening for months before outside took over is just an irrelevant detail that can be safely ignored. Don’t let facts interfere with the narrative right?

But now you’re flooding an incredibly insightful and original piece of content that’s given to you for free with freaking the f*ck out over a few f*cking adds embedded in the feed. Totally ignoring that the content itself is the opposite of what you would expect if a corporate monolith was steamrolling the site in their image. Go find a product release posting and blast your BS there. But if you actually care about keeping Pinkbike rad then recognize and encourage rad content.

@henryquinney thanks for the insight. Always super interesting to hear some world cup stories. I was at the MSA WC when that fight broke out. Was crazy.
Really enjoyed hearing about your take on suspension for racers. Thought you had some fascinating insight. Would love to hear more about world cup setups from your perspective.

Awesome podcast guys. I especially like the bit about nerves helping you succeed. I think that´s a really interesting look into the mental aspect of mountain biking because most of the time I crash on stuff I´ve ridden a hundred times. Please do another episode like this soon these ones are my favorite.

I love racing and the insight stories, have been at a few WC's since the 90's and parties were sick! We were even drinking beer with CG inside(!) the doping control Big Grin
It's also the first time that I listened to this podcast.
