Are we all seeing the ghost/devil kid at 1.24 just staring directly into your soul, or is it just me that can see him?
  • 61 0
You know something bad is gonna happen when one of the children of the corn is just chilling there.
  • 22 1
Wait, which kid? Don't see nuthin'

Stay here and listen to the nightmares of the Sea".

Well that one kid predicted the future of his friend ("I knew it!") so maybe they're a magical bunch.
  • 8 0
@Lanebobane: "I knew it"... well duh, if the camera crew from Friday Fails show up at your ride, it's clear that some bad stuff is going to happen.
  • 2 1
@Lemmingie: This should be top comment of the year!!!!
  • 1 0
@Lemmingie: I choked on my Zero Coke after reading this comment. Epic Smile .
  • 2 0
@Lemmingie: based on the amount of cringe-worthy cursing in these particular clips, plenty of live ones too ...

in this day and age though; plenty of seared consciences that didnthearnuthin ...

 ¡VAMOS!
  • 28 0
Sounds like they already drank their post-ride beers haha
  • 18 0
@pdxal: That last dude did it right. Crashed, rolled and came up smiling and victorious! Why not?
  • 13 0
this kind of group is why I love biking. life evolves and changes around us but the banter and good times never change Smile
  • 4 0
If crashing is the price of admission for having riding buddies like this then take my money.
  • 66 2
She's fine, but their relationship on the other hand ...
  • 37 0
He got that bike so fast, then went OH SH** and held her hands to save his neck. Respeeect
  • 37 0
He did an amazing job catching the bike, moving it, then holding her hands hahah.
  • 12 0
My guess is that she's a good sport. Why else would she allow that moment to be submitted for FF?
Unless....
  • 6 0
I appreciate the equality in FF on this round. Women can crash and burn just as well as men!
  • 10 0
@RayDolor: Maybe that video is all that is left to him after their divorce? Wink
  • 2 0
@Archimonde: That's also a possibility. But you know what they used today, in the way-back: "Blondes have more fun".
  • 6 4
She might have heard “stay loose” on too many other occasions...
  • 4 1
 Revenge “Friday fails” perhaps?
  • 1 0
If he put a ring on it, it has been given back!
  • 3 0
That bike save followed by prompt riding buddy check was a Friday win as far as I’m concerned.
  • 61 1
That yellow shirt superman guy was so good. Needs to learn when to cut his losses though....
  • 5 0
yeah he like, "I got it, I got it, I don't got it"
  • 3 0
He wanted to test his flying ability without the bike this time.

Strange place to put a shed.
  • 16 0
Now there's a new entry way too!
  • 43 0
I quite clearly heard his friend say "There it is". Yet he still hit it anyway
  • 5 1
@DidNotSendIt: hahah referring to where he should make a new door?
  • 4 0
At least open the shed door and give him some options, maybe the back door too so we can see his exit strategy.
  • 1 0
@DidNotSendIt: His trick progression hit a wall
  • 30 0
Advice: Hang on throughout the crash. Stay committed and focused. In other words, whatever you do, don't point the recording device towards the ground because you are too concerned about the rider. We need to see the entire aftermath.
  • 27 1
 Those last 2 tree hits....omg

First, broken collarbone?

Second, broken ribs/face/everything?
  • 5 0
Yeah am I getting old or are the fails particularly brutal this week?
  • 2 0
@bvwilliams: - I can honestly say that the cut off line this week was death (made for some of the most hilarious lines ever in the comments section)
  • 21 0
I also like to put a shed in the landing of my jumps

  • 20 0
 Rectum? Darn near killed him!
  • 15 0
1:41 that’s a proper front wheel blow out. Was never going to make that!
  • 4 3
This had me shouting "Booaaaahh" loudly lol

So many dead sailors today... why do they jump??? They don't have any skills.
  • 5 0
That clip made me hungry for tacos
  • 9 0
@yoobee: so they can learn how to jump
  • 5 0
I think he pumped in quite literally all the wrong places on the run in
  • 1 1
@AbrahamWebcoln: They better start on curbs.
  • 8 0
 @manybrouce

that lip has claimed many a wheel.

I seem to recall the 2019 Peaty's Steel City DH race organisers spray painting a skull and crossbones on the ramp to let racers know under no uncertain terms what kind of jump it is. IfyouI go hunting for Ben Deakins youtube video from the race day he mentions it from track-side.
  • 1 0
@Lemmingie: that was educational! That rim is like one of those tacos that just crumbles around the filling when you try to pick it up, absolute bits!
  • 11 0
 Two things:
1. I wonder if Superman can still have kids after that performance?

2. My heart goes out to all the healing collarbones this week
  • 13 1
 0:26 RIP headphone users
  • 1 0
Yeah wtf, Friday Fails are my Sat morning coffee ritual and I almost had a stroke there.
  • 11 0

The Ents are going to war.
  • 1 0
I agree, its always amazing to see how they don't even budge a mm when a biker hits one. I hit a little tiny young sapling once...that thing didn't even shake a leaf off. They are really an immovable object for bikers.

2:10 guy had enough hang time to check his phone, take a sip of water, and then $h1t his shorts... oof, he knew that crash was coming for a good while.
  • 8 0
You are correct. Had enough time to clean the shorts before landing too. Not my proudest moment in biking.
  • 4 0
@Cerrone: Hope you didn’t get too messed up! It looked like a big hit.
  • 10 0
@bikeybikeybikebike: I got rekt pretty hard. 3 fractured vertebrae, 11 cracked ribs, punctured lung, destroyed collarbone. Few months to heal but I'm back riding now. Could've been worse! Amazed at no concussion or blacking out. Full face did its job.
  • 9 0
 @Cerrone: me standing and saluting
  • 3 0
@orphan: I salute all the doctors and nurses who helped, and also every part of my bike which came away fine ???? Only broke my Timber Bell. Silver lining
  • 3 0
I can't believe I had to watch that, AGAIN. At least sandwiched by a bunch of other crashes it didn't seem quite so bad. Glad you're better J-dogg.
  • 4 0
on a serious note.. what is the reason for this 'landing on the front wheel'? I don't know what you call it, but this seems to happen in most cases of Friday Fails.. Is the reason, that they don't pump enough from the take-off, or how does that happen? I've felt this come on a few times when doing a jump, but so far was lucky I guess... but if you land on the fork like that, the OTB is inevitable I guess?
  • 17 0
There are some good videos and articles that explain it. Here are some: medium.com/@Duffsam/mountain-biking-the-dead-sailor-a-physics-perspective-8ed023d7a85a

www.youtube.com/watch?v=OSGJqFXrEdU

Basically, if you don't push into the jump with your feet, the lip slows your bike down but your body continues at full speed, causing you to rotate forward in the air.
  • 8 0
 It's a talent I share
  • 3 0
More specifially the principle of the dead sailor is, that they could not unload the front wheel on the lip. That is why you pump, to unload the front wheel on take off. If you don‘t, your front wheel stays low because the fork compresses, your weight gets shifted over the front and the rebound of the unloaded rear wheel gets you. Been there, man, it is the worst.
  • 1 0
@stalkinghorse: Agree. I also noticed on many of these fails that people pull their legs up like it will help them with lift. However, if you are clipped in it will further rotate you over the front end. I always have to remind myself to keep my heels down to prevent this phenomenon.

flag ridingofthebikes (Feb 26, 2021 at 10:32) (Below Threshold)
if you have a rear shock, slow down the rebound. spring you over the bars so easy if there springy.
  • 3 0
@stalkinghorse: I think that physics explanation should be posted every week in Friday Fails. So, much bad advice online and from friends, but that explanation really makes sense.
  • 1 0
It is a combination of the two things:
1. The slope pushes your body OTB by inertia. So keep your body and arm tension!
2. The gravity pulls your front wheel FIRST. Thus the front starts to fall while the rear wheel is still on the ground. This is all the same on jumps, drops or stepdowns. So unload yourself and the bike by pushing the pedals to become airy at lift-off!
  • 2 0
It happens to pro riders, too. At a different scale, however. www.pinkbike.com/news/video-johannes-fischbachs-massive-140-meter-ski-jump-crash.html
  • 3 0
@stalkinghorse: You can hit a kicker with zero input from your feet if you want. Racers almost always suck up jumps instead of adding compression because adding compression means more time in the air and a slower line. Most over-rotation is from the rider's weight being back. Add in a stiff upper body and you have the classic dead sailor. Add in dragging the rear brake off the lip and you have something really spectacular.
  • 1 0
@nukedchipp: Oooooff... and no protection whatsoever (not that it would have helped if he wasn't super lucky)
  • 7 0
Lets see the bikes of Friday Fails.
  • 4 0
I love how 99% of the time the trailing rider not only handles the feature but also someone crashing right in front of them with aplomb.
