As I landscape my yard I can’t help but think ‘I don’t have enough sketchy ramps and piles of dirt back here.’

@oldfaith: What an appropriate way to describe half the people riding the Jackass loop in Truckee

Dude @ 25sec turns a nice tame roller into a f*cking 14ft drop to flat (basically) and rides it out when his enduro/trail bike explodes. I don't know if that's much of a fail to be honest. That's would be huge win in my book. The way he just turns around like..."what went wrong?"
  • 12 0
this dude should be on Saturday Saves or sunny send, definitely not a fail section
  • 10 1
trunnion mounted shocks: apparently more than just marketing bs!
  • 2 0
The Rockshox Product Dev and FA team will count it as a failure. They'll want to understand what happened tout suite.

I liked seeing the mechanical aftermath of this. I hope more clips show the mechanical aftermath in the future. The medical aftermath, hard no on seeing that.
  • 7 0
....he was completely ready to ride away from that like it was no big deal. Man has ankles of steel

Opening sequence should be the opening for every FF LOL.

"Bro have you heard about gravel bikes? It's totally hot right now!"
- Two guys who haven't sat on a bike since they were 14, talking in a Seattle taproom a week before "the incident".

@number44: "Hold my dangle mug and watch this!"
  • 2 0
 @klazzymoto: I agree!

@VtVolk: My dangle mug & I feel attacked.

Saw synchro cyclecross bikes, full-lycra and fenders. Felt a little bit good when he crashed (but wasn't hurt). I'm a bad person.
  • 9 0
@plyawn: I once wrecked on my gravel bike passing a jogger. Hopped off the sidewalk connecter I was on and when I went to hop back on the pavement I did not get the 2 inches of air I needed to clear the elevation change back up. Barrel rolled over the sidewalk to the grass on the other side, unclipping in flight, and wound up laughing my ass off in the grass. The jogger was a bit freaked out as this unfolded in front of him.
  • 4 0
Yeah, maybe leave jumping on gravel bikes to Yoann and Akrigg.

Wheels on the ground Roadies, wheels on the ground!!!!!

@VtVolk: cheers for introducing me to the $50 Dangle Mug ridiculousness

After watching 169 episodes of FF i think I will stop riding on fridays. We all know already what's happening on fridays. I'll stick with sundays and maybye saturdays sometimes.
  • 2 0
Had my worst crash in a year on Friday. Nothing too serious, but could have been a collarbone with a little less luck. This comment was basically all I could think on the way back to the car.
  • 24 0
2:39 - Damn. I've got to imagine breakfast in that house involves a bowl of cereal and each kid signing a liability waiver. Those are some seriously sketchy ramps.
  • 11 0
Yeah, they should just go ahead and spray paint "Friday Fails" on that ramp as there will be more videos from that yard
  • 10 0
needs more fireworks in the mix
  • 6 0
Who didn’t grow up with a sketchy ramp in the back yard? Me and the guys were quite proud of what we built. Photo evidence of takeoff ramp somewhere on PB
  • 1 0
@klazzymoto: Perhaps the video isn't doing your craftsmanship justice. When viewed from the comfort of my iPhone, the setup conjures images of a BMX track designed by an Indiana Jones villain. Growing up in a household of lawn care and landscaping fanatics, backyard jumps were not an option, and I opted for riding my BMX off of retaining walls at the local office park.
  • 1 0
@rodeostu: I can relate. My mother is known for her pristine yard. I had the privilege of growing up an a farm with enough area “out back” to do some digging. That being said I never got a real chance to ride off retaining walls at the local office park.
  • 1 0
I honed my skills on a pallet propped against an empty oil drum, with special “superslippywhenwet” ply as the launch surface. Damn, thinking back, snapped a pair of handlebars schralping that huck*.
*these terms made no sense in ‘78.
  • 1 0
@rockhopper70: How the terms have changed. I wasn’t alive in ‘78 but 2009 we definitely weren’t schralping anything around here.
  • 1 0
I love how after all that wood work they just gave up on making an actual landing out of dirt, a knee high pile should do the trick.
  • 20 0
 caliss... quebecois
  • 2 0
 hahah... cracked me up too.
  • 1 0
Sounds like the dude was disappointed of himself haha
  • 20 1
The last on in bromont hahahaha CALLIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSSSSS
  • 2 0
 Please explain this.
  • 4 0
@iamamodel: swearing in quebecois 101: tabarnak, crisse (from Christ), sacrement and, finally, calice. All these words have a religious origin (catholic). Kind of our F words.
  • 2 0
@francoiscorriveau: That's crazy. We just use F and C words.

Tabernacle? Chalice. That's crazy. Goes to show how sacred such things are.

I dunno, to summarize, I would call this the "why did you and the missus decide to never have kids edtion"? Seemed to be more nad imprints on top tubes than normal.

@SATN-XC: It was a grassroots-type DH park that was open year round north of Asheville, NC. they just closed this spring. ...something-something "I want to spend time with my family" blah blah blah.. was the reason, I believe. They were super nice folks, so whatever they chose to do, I support. but it is sad they are gone.
  • 1 0
@SATN-XC: Family with a teen son bought a parcel of land north of Asheville on a ridge after inspring trips to Crankworx. Got consultation on how to build the bike park, the facilities and to sell land/home package lots on the mountain as a bike in/out community.
Ran into massive hurdles to get buildings, septic and water all on the super steep slopes and control runoff for nearby trout stream.
Intermediate & advanced trails only.
Layout (combo of the parking situation, the dead end nature of the shuttle & the heavy burden of maintaining the park and equipment on such a steep pitch) capped the number of riders per day so they could only sell maybe 60 tickets daily.
The dad still had a full time, good paying job on top of running the park sometimes 3 days a week.
Couldn't sell the lots without the infrastructure so they made it work for as long as they could because they fell in love with DH, the people and the scene, but had to stop hemmoraghing money and move on.

It's gonna get turned into a couple mega-million dollar viewshed lots.

hahah, today is a specially funny one. The kid jumping with his feet off before take off, the "when you get popular" followe by "Oh my god!", the bike with a bell ringing as it falls down the gap... Or maybe Im just happy its friday
  • 2 0
so that was a bell - I thought I was hearing things!
  • 10 0
I wish Pinkbike would have a follow up interview with 1 rider each week from the “Fails.” I genuinely want to know how injured these people got and what was going through their brain as they were crashing and burning.
  • 5 0
...I think there is a kind of innocence in watching this stuff and not knowing the injury outcome. Would feel more like a snuff film if we knew how bad some of these crashes ended up being. I would rather not know and keep enjoying FF
  • 2 0
@SATN-XC: These are user summitted correct? If that's the case I'd have to assume that most don't end in very serious injury.
  • 1 0
 @sino428: I don't know....but you are probably correct.
  • 12 3
My buddy broke his C6 in a very simple crash recently.
Life altering.
Was hard to watch these as "entertainment" previously, now it's impossible .
Ride safe, and make sure to walk the trail first if you're unfamiliar with it.
Peace out.

I've seen someone explode their ankle on a curb in parking lot just trying to dismount a bike. Cousin exploded her face walking up a slick rock at a swimming hole. I snapped my ACL coming to stop at a National. Apologies for what happened to your friend. I came to the conclusion decades ago that the most dangerous thing we can do is to stay home.
  • 5 0
@blowmyfuse: like I always say, “Safety top 10. If it were first, we wouldn’t be doing this. “
  • 5 0
@blowmyfuse: True. Friend's uncle just fell flat on his face in front of his house while riding a razor scooter on the sidewalk. Died from the head injuries. Another one this spring was sedentary and had a heart attack. Another killed herself after being depressed with too much time on instagram. Another drank herself to death during this isolation/covid. Riding definitely isn't worth refraining from.
  • 3 0
My overall picture is that I can "sorta" watch the Friday Fails and have a chuckle, but it's always from the "walks away" viewpoint. I doubt we see many permanently crippling injuries on here to somber things up, but they are there.

Just wanted to try to cheer @woofer2609 up and give a "don't die from fear of having lived" perspective. Not wanting to change how he views things, b/c obviously his filter is shaped by his friends injury.

Just encouraging people to stay positive about the things worth enjoying since anything can bring us to halt, but don't pass up fun because of it.

And bikes are definitely fun.
  • 1 0
About 10 years ago I lost 4 teeth in an OTB to rocks. I count myself very fortunate to have video of it and be able to show it to people. I "enjoy" Friday Fails as entertainment, and most of the crashes look like standard issue MTB life. But those rag doll crashes that come up every other week or so are a bit jarring.
  • 6 0
This is the first week I can recall seeing an up-close of the aftermath...fitting that it was a closeup of the bike carnage, not human injuries
  • 2 0
need more of this for sure
  • 11 4
Those gravel riders will have quite the story to tell whilst sipping on a Mocha Light Frappuccino at the next café.
  • 5 0
That's if they can find the iPhone I assume was mounted on his stem so they can pay for it.
  • 7 0
That backyard set up is the stuff of legends though! Every kid in the neighborhood knows about that roll in.
  • 5 0
I expected the fail to be the roll-in ramp collapsing; that shit looked way too sketchy!
  • 9 0
 Best opening clip.
  • 2 0
I was almost ashamed of myself for the number of times I hit the zero on my keyboard. Almost.
  • 5 0
Friday Fails inspired me to buy a full face. I have already started filming myself doing scarier stuff. I hope when I am on Friday Fails I don't scream or groan in a weird or embarrassing way.
  • 6 1
which is more embarrasing, when tubby middle age dads made tubby middle age dad noises or when they make little girl noises? asking for a friend.
  • 2 0
 @freestyIAM: The noise I don't want to make is the wind-knocked-out-of-you uhhhhhhh-uhhh.
  • 1 0
It's the loosening of the bowels I don't want to accidentally capture on film.
  • 1 0
@iamamodel: oh is that what they are all talking about?
  • 1 0
@vapidoscar: Nah, just me. But, I tend to bring the conversation into the gutter.
  • 7 0
I say the owners of the @3:32 clip house get parents of the year award.
  • 5 0
Nominate 0:12 for douchebag of the year if the person going under him was a stranger.
(obviously not if he has just messed up jumping over his friend)
  • 5 0
Just me that would like the clips to be a little longer post-crash to enjoy the inevitable winded noises?
Maybe a wednesday winded?
  • 3 0
PSA: Don't ever tell anyone about PinkBike, in fact you should tell your friends to delete their accounts. We want fewer accounts to increase our chances of winning a giveaway! People other than @dolores should be able to win too!
  • 3 1
 Less @dolores
More @mulva
  • 1 0
 @blowmyfuse: Oh... you.
  • 3 0
Strange how there is never any footage of Ebikes... Are they just the better riders, or spent so much on the engine, that there wasn't cash for a camera?
  • 1 0
The first clip with the road gap fail was an ebike?
  • 21 1
Naw it’s cuz ebikers have no friends so nobody around to film them.
Kidding! Smile
  • 7 2
Given that 80% of fails consist of some feature with airtime, i simply think that most ebikers stay away from jumps or generally don't stretch their comfort zone as far (why they're on an ebike in the first place).
  • 1 1
@SickEdit: Yeah, no. You should ride with our crew in Santa Cruz!
  • 1 0
the cross-up @ 0:20.....was the second rider intentional?! Couldn't tell if the "oh S**T!" was b/c he wasn't expecting the rider or he simply realized he didn't have enough speed to clear his buddy. ..he should have committed regardless Smile
  • 2 0
Sounds like the guy at 3:41 shit his pants once he knew a crash was inevitable. Maybe that's why his buddy with the camera was laughing at his so hard.
  • 3 0
The half-flip at 3:24 is perfectly landed. I can tell, it's my signature trick
  • 5 1
What a lovely assortment of Oh Shits to enjoy while I shit.
  • 1 0
Dude! The sounds people make when crashing are both hilarious & painful, Listen to high vol from 3.32 to 3.35. Ouch! Somebody should make a sound compilation of this sh@t. It would be funny (and scary).
  • 3 0
People that film in portrait deserve a proper bear mauling.
  • 1 0
Starts off with the epic fail for gravel bike, which is a fail all on its own! LOL Then the kid making the jump at 2:29 - rag doll! Big Grin
  • 1 0
Kid totally went for it! I think the bike was simply too big/heavy for him. He yanked on the bars but the bike was having none of it and dropped like a lead weight. Hopefully he goes back in a few months and hits it again
  • 2 0
There are some real bangers this week....

That's what the kids mean when they say bangers right!?
  • 2 0
Damn, the dude on boy scout ladder drop tried to hit it like a jump. This is not the way.
  • 2 0
Algunos videos son un tanto dolorosos
  • 1 0
1st week in a while where I didnt think at least one person was dead or seriously injured...

Is it time for my CLOSE UP!!
  • 2 0
 Those American flag gloves tho.
  • 1 0
Faked me out with the crash into the cameraman not being the last one. Nice.
  • 1 0
That poor kid @ 2:27... he was totally committed to that drop but bike looked too damn heavy/big for him.

@mediocrityontwowheels: I thought the same thing when I first saw it, got lucky there dude. Looks like you got your head slightly to the side as you went over.
  • 2 0
@mediocrityontwowheels: Dang, I watched that crash a couple times. Looks, and even sounds, like you broke your neck. Lucky escape, man!
