Video: Pro Setup Choices | Pinkbike Racing Bonus Episode

Oct 12, 2022
by Pinkbike Originals

We think downhill racing is one of the hardest sports in the world. It requires precision, skill and a huge amount of fitness. Naturally, Pinkbike Racing doesn't want to make their job any harder than it has to be, and here Ben talks us through what brands the race team work with and why.

Now, don't worry, PBR's story isn't over yet. We've got plenty more coming from the second half of the season. Stay tuned.

Definitely a commercial for all the sponsors of PB Racing, I'll happily watch it. This project was one of my favorite things. Thanks PB, Cathro, and the sponsors that made it possible.
  • 1 2
Absolutely! Watch all the in commercial commercials too. Although I am checking daily for the tyres to come into stock. Just wish I'd sized up my bike in hopes to ride and hit jumps like Aimi.
  • 7 0
Exactly, if 8 minutes view time keeps this going. Im in!
  • 6 1
Yeah, no need to even title the article "Video: Pro Setup Choices". Just call it what it is - a thank you to the brands who made some of the best MTB content out there possible.
I really dislike ads, but this is absolutely warranted. The value created by this project for the MTB community bears recognizing everyone that made it a reality.

Outside's own vid player instead of youtube? That's a bad sign.

You can see this and all our videos on YouTube as well if you prefer. www.youtube.com/pinkbike

nothing wrong with sending a little ad revenue their way... especially on a PBR project.

@brianpark: Nice, thanks for giving us that option.

 the autoplay. the horror.
  • 9 1
@hughbm: ugh it shouldn't be autoplaying, let me check on why that's happening.
  • 6 1
Update: I should check my emails more. Autoplay was turned on network-wide for some testing. Audio's off by default so it shouldn't be intrusive, and generally when people click a video post they want to watch the video. Let me know how it goes!

@brianpark: Only here for the comment section.

@brianpark: Could you please either add a Chromecast button or post the YouTube link on every video article. Cathro doesn't fit on my phone screen!

Isn't it good if they get all the sponsor money instead of sharing it with youtube?

Pretty subtle, missed all of the sponsors. This comment brought to you by Brawndo, the Thirst Mutilator.

 Brawndo, ITS WHAT PLANTS CRAVE

@bonkmasterflex: It has ELECTROLYTES (I have now lived long enough for this not to be satire anymore. Good times)

PB Racing should sell the Unicorn decals! They would be able to fund another racer with the proceeds!

Endura allegedly make good tall guy pants.
  • 1 0
@shredddr: I have a pair of their shorts and they've not been great to be honest...
  • 1 0
@bunjiman82: Same! Looks a bit fast for me so using as a base layer, quality.
  • 1 0
@PawnSacrifice: just a bit expensive for a base layer. Mine tipped the scales at over 70gbp with postage to the UK...
  • 1 0
@bunjiman82: You're not wrong. I was going to buy something to support the team, it'll be be worn properly when it get's a little colder and need a jacket on.
  • 1 0
@shredddr: Highly recommend them - I've got three pairs and at 6'3", they are perfect. Much prefer them to the TLD pair I have.
  • 1 0
@Niseach1: gonna +1 on that, 6’4” and my endura pants fit perfect
  • 1 0
I would also like a set of those. Assuming they're reasonably priced. Judging by the price of the jersey though, I'm not holding my breath.
  • 1 0
@Ih8Hondas: I've picked the latest Endura ones up in a sale for £69 which I think is really cheap. Even at full price £99, they are still cheaper than the equivalents from Fox, TLD and 100%. My TLDs are really short, as are the Fox pants my son rides in. Hope you get a deal on the Dharco ones.

I am in the market for a new DH race bike for next year. I would love a V10 and it is my first choice but the cheapest full bike you can buy in Canada is 10K! The cheap build is well out my price range which sucks.
  • 4 0
theres plenty of used deals to be had, a buddy of mine just bought a 2018 V10 for $3500.
  • 1 0
@qman11: Nice, I am looking for sure. Just haven't seen anything yet.
  • 9 1
 we got ads now

I'll gladly watch if Ben's sultry scottish droll is narrating.

This is great. I love the explanation of the tire choices: using front for rear and such. A friend of mine brought his bike to the shop for repairs and the tech gave him shit for "running his tires backward." Look HERE! Even the pros run rears up front!
  • 2 0
How you gonna talk pro racer setups and not mention that custom crazy stem spacer behind you in the shot? Or Greg's custom chainstay extenders? Happy for you that you finally got some pants that fit, but fellow tall guys deserve all the insider tall guy info
  • 3 0
Excellent. I really enjoyed the ad. Now, no rush for releasing the rest of the year's content. It's gonna be a long winter until the next race so better spread it in wee pills.
  • 8 4
How many sponsor plugs can you get into a 8 minute video?
  • 1 2
 Ahhahahaha comment gold.
  • 2 0
The Conti tires are the real deal. Kryptotal fr in the front and rear grip like assegais but actually roll
  • 2 0
Stop pretending you pulled the trousers down to cover your ankles. Hangin off your ars was a look, and it was cool.

PB hit this out of the park... awesome series and Ben was visibly exhausted..

So keen for the Cathro-edition pants - would snap some of those up in a heartbeat at 6’6!

Been riding 30 years. I have never thought of moving the cleats back to shorten reach. Science!
