Video: Cathro's Vision - Pinkbike Racing EP2

Jul 8, 2022
by Pinkbike Originals

After a steady start to the season for the Pinkbike Racing team, we see a sudden change of pace as the team heads to the infamous Fort William World Cup track. The conditions were brutal and the racing was hard—and that’s not even factoring in all the extra duties Cathro has signed up for as a presenter and team manager.

Good god this is amazing content. So sincere, humorous and, honestly, emotional at times. Absolutely first rate to this entire crew and the personalities, and most of all.. Cathro. Congrats and thank you.

 Great story telling, so good.

@ddmonkey: the line between youtube "content" and documentaries of the past is gone. that was incredible
  • 4 0
@ddmonkey: Spot on. Telling real stories of real people. So good, I'm totally sucked in.

This gives me goosebumps. So damn good.

What a gem Cathro is! So Humble and genuine, how can you not pull for this guy!

 Cried at the end

@optimumnotmaximum: no I'm not! That's..... I was chopping an onion, ok!?
  • 3 0
@harryjenkinson: Straight back atcha - a great watch, interesting angles and insights all over the place and as everyone is saying a great story at the heart of it and plenty of & in the emotional rollercoaster of racing too.
  • 3 0
My goodness!! This is top quality content. Probably the best thing I've watched in a while.
  • 4 0
Can we appreciate how awesome Peter the bike mechanic is.
  • 1 0
@mikelevy @Brianpark where's the rest of the season? Hopefully PB didn't axe the best MTB content of 2022 after 2 episodes. Or did it get shut down for reasons outside of your control?
  • 2 0
@pgomez: Episode three next week, I think.
  • 144 0
This is my happy place. Amazing content, loving how the team's going.
Episode 1, Aimi doesn't do jumps.
Episode 2, around the 19:15 mark, absolute mega shot of Aimi airbourne under the Scotland banner. Amazing.

Great addition getting Baernard Kerr on, Andrew Shandro too, hearing their take on this project.

So good. So so good.
  • 3 1
I think a strong foundation makes jumps a confidence/bravery battle, at least for me thats how it was. that shot really took me back to my first big jump haha, love it
  • 9 0
Me: "It would be interesting to hear Bernard Kerr's take on this."
*Que Bernard.*
  • 84 1
Damn, who’s cutting the onions in here?
  • 71 1
God damn it. Cathro is 10 years younger than me and I still want him to be my dad. Great content !
  • 45 1
As I've said on every single PB Racing post - I'll say it again: wheres the GoFundMe, the Cathro's-dirty-kit raffles, the donation page, the PB jersey 12 pack, PB shirts and nursing home flipflops best-post competition etc so we can kick in on these guys? We keep offering you FREE MONEY to help sponsor the team but naaaaahhhhhhh....not an option. What gives?
  • 56 0
We'll have jerseys to support the team by Crankworx! Smile
  • 12 0
@brianpark: I want a flipped down 13 in L please, can have Aimi name on it.
  • 5 1
As Brianpark is a great guy and great at his job there will be a good a reason this hasn’t happened.
My guess is that there are probably difficulties with rider / staff and sponsorship contracts. And division of revenue between riders, staff, pinkbike staff, Pinkbike, outside, Robin ,his investors like nextventures.com and Lance Armstrong Et al
Contact rider via Instagram and do paypal deposit
or send $$$ via weston union to me and ill pass it on
  • 3 1
@gcrider: Great plan on funneling thru you btw! But yeah, lets just blame it on Robin. Check out the PB cast w/ Robin sometime. The most beige & vanilla PB cast of history. Not Levy's fault...its just how those corp types are. Truly sad.
  • 1 0
@brianpark: Which Crabkworx, the next one?
  • 1 0
 @baschyboy: Yep. Yo welcome.
  • 1 0
 @jake28: Awesome, thanks!
  • 1 0
@brianpark: If it's not too much of a hassle, please also make them available on the PB online store. I'd love to support the team, but unfortunately can't afford to fly to Whistler just for a PB Racing jersey.
  • 1 0
 @Muscovir: 100% - will happen.
  • 1 0
@brianpark: Word - will buy a couple... if in black. White is a no go, just never comes clean. Black, Black, Black... (please)

Now go start that GoFundPBR account... (please)

PS: I realize there's more to it than the BS bake sale ideas I threw out but also - what are those reasons? Just curious
  • 44 1
Just amazing insight into World Cup DH. Your team captures the entire experience.
Ben, you are a great leader and an inspiration to everyone, not just your team, but anyone that watches this. You are no doubt a great dad and it is so obvious that you have a big heart.
Both yours and Aimi's results gave me chills.. . and maybe some tears.
Shandro "top 20, no way" I say 24th is close enough
  • 37 0
Phenomenal cinematography and storytelling. Love the team and the effort you guys are putting in. Shedding tears here while watching this. Love this so much
  • 34 0
That was a really emotional watch. - outstanding content.Congratulations all. Also hats off to Pinkbike that we are able to get this free as running the team along with the expense in making this must be considerable.
  • 28 0
Bike videos that make you laugh... and cry? What is this...
  • 22 0
This has got to be my favorite project that Pinkbike has done. Very earnest and compelling, required viewing in our shop and get us stoked to ride. Keep it up!!!
  • 21 0
So so great! Best MTB content out there right now by a long shot. The cinematography, writing, drama laughs and tears (I'm not crying your crying!) it has it all. Pike bike should be very proud.
  • 24 0
 Fuck that was good.
  • 22 0
This series is raising the bar - probably in so many MTB racing facets that most of could ever understand.
  • 17 1
Watching this brings back so many emotions from that weekend. I am ok to admit it; I had a few tears standing next to Ben, knowing what Aimi had achieved. Then the realisation that something I designed would be on the podium of a world cup blew my mind. It had already been a fantastic weekend seeing all the PBR riders on my home soil. I didn't think it could get any better. But then it was Cathro’s turn to race; the noise of him crossing the finish line was something else. That weekend will live with me for a long time.
  • 2 4
 LinkedIn maybe?
  • 18 0
I have no doubt in my mind if given the opportunity at a younger age, Cathro could have been a solid top 20 or even top 15 rider.
  • 16 0
This is the best content I've seen on Pinkbike... and that's saying something. Massive congrats to the team, Pinkbike, and Ben in particular. Some good life lessons in there as well. If you first 'dream' doesn't come true, then figure out the next one... you might be surprised to find that the new 'dream' is just as fulfilling.
  • 18 0
Sheesh Aimi's time would've been 13th in the elite category. That kid is fast
  • 15 0
This is just pure gold, much love to everyone involved!
  • 14 0
Props to Cathero! You are awesome. Best of luck the rest of the season for the team
  • 15 0
Other spellingses include caethrow, ceilthru, chthulrow
  • 6 0
@browner: I remember seeing auto caption throw up Ben catheter once.
  • 12 1
I like Cladio and Rob as much as the next guy, BUT Ben's coverage and personality is about 1 billion times better than those 2 combined. Discovery should write him a big old check and give him access and cameras to do his thing. Reality, Discovery will probably ban him from being at any UCI event with a camera.
  • 7 0
Same with Eliot Jackson, really like him, but Cathro is head and shoulders better than him, not just in physical height.
  • 11 0
Cathro and Wyn Masters already produce the must-see content from each DH round, for us core fans anyway.
The commentary is a different issue and a special skill, but the official provider will probably always have more bland supporting content as they are aiming at a wider market and using established TV formats.
See the RB content and the woeful EWS "highlights" show for evidence of this.
  • 12 0
Wow I was wondering how Ben managed to fit everything in! This was a great insight and shows what a grafter he is
  • 13 0
got something in my eye watching that , brilliant
  • 10 0
Best viewing of any series, whether it be mtb orientated or not. But more than that, Ben, Max and team are the best thing to happen in the mtb world.... Period!
  • 9 0
Great stuff PinkBike. Thanks Here's hoping Cathro can keep it up. When I learned he was going to captain the race team it worried me. I really enjoy his coverage and don't want to lose that window on the WC world.
  • 11 0
Surely there's some sort of Emmys for internet content award this series can be entered into?
  • 9 1
I have nothing original to add about how phenomenal that was, so I won't try! But it also got me curious how you could bring some of this flavour to PinkBike Academy. Including Ben somehow in PBA3 would obviously be a plus, but there's also something about the riders' journey that feels so strong in this PB racing series. Or maybe the PBA basic reality show format is fine, but maybe the winners can join the PB team next season and we get to continue following them for a season (could PBA switch to DH racing format?).
  • 2 2
Cathro running the dh team and making videos is pure gold. PBA on the other hand.... kill it, kill it with fire. It's everything I don't want to see mtb become.

This series is incredible. Thank you!
  • 8 0
Cathro is an absolute top bloke and i am just glad pinkbike let him put this team together so we get to see this content. Better than anything on Netflix
  • 9 0
Should out to PINKBIKE for making this happen, walking the talk. Love it.
  • 9 0
This is the best thing to happen to MTB since wheels
  • 7 0
No matter what happens next, this was done and will stay in the books! Good work everyone in the team.
  • 8 0
The hardest working man in the mountain
  • 6 2
As everyone says this is crazy doing those full-time jobs together... I'm sure none of us keyboard warriors could do this... but imagine, there is a whife behind who's getting his back free... I don't want to know how often he sees his child...
  • 2 0
You are so spot on. Only parents can fully relate to this.

@pinkbikeaudience: Why not start a series with Brett Tippie as host about having family and being a pro mountainbiker?
  • 4 0
Holy shit this is great stuff! My wife and I have watched both episodes and they feel like the athlete stories you see during the olympics coverage in Murica. In the immortal words of the grinch "I have feelings " for the PB race team. PB this is money well spent. Ben the proof of you and your crews success is the fact that even the anonymous PB commentators have nothing bad to say.
  • 7 0
Please don't make me wait another month for ep.3, this series is too good!
  • 14 0
I just saw a draft for EP3, so you won't have to wait that long...
  • 5 0
Cathro, congratulations for all of the content. You make by far the best ¡¡¡ and algo congrats for your riding¡¡¡¡¡ braaapppppppp¡¡
  • 4 0
This is such a great project, delivering on all levels. The characters, the insight into what is involved in a world cup race team, and the storytelling. All of it outstanding. Can't wait for the next episode.
  • 3 0
Now that I’ve wiped away the tears…

I’m once again asking for Pinkbike racing jerseys.

Great work on these big episodes as well as all the extra racing coverage. Would love to see this applied to an EWS setting as well
  • 3 0
Not often i watch a mtb video twice. A vid like this is world class documentary. Incredible what can be created by a small dedicated team of relatable individuals on a probable budget that would make most documentary creators laugh.
  • 6 0
Take a bow Pinkbike Racing. Bravo.
  • 4 0
Best cycling content on the net! So happy that you all could put this together, thanks to the entire team for this massive effort and polished product!
  • 5 0
Shivers! Absolutely epic work by the team and this video production is next level… ooft!!
  • 5 0
Genuine feel good content right there! Thank you Ben and the team not so behind the scenes. Keep this coming!
  • 2 0
I hate it when somebody cuts the onions (as they did in 20:14) and it stings my eyes through the screen. It's hard to not be proud of the accomplishment. Well done Ben. Great work from you Ben and the team. Wishing you nothing massive success. Great video
  • 2 0
'Since becoming a father, I feel more invested in Aimi doing well. Does that make sense?'
Makes perfect sense and just another reason why you are so well respected Ben Cathro and reinforces why you are the right man for this position on the PBR Team whether you race or not. She is one very lucky young woman to have you in her corner and I look forward to seeing her progress under your guidance.
As everyone else has said, what an amazing thing you are doing Pinkbike and not just putting this team together but for the quality way in which you are giving us an insight in to it all. Excellent work to everyone and I cant wait to see the next episode.
I probably shouldn't have read all your comments before watching this as they were enough to get the emotions stirring!
  • 2 0
 PINKBIKE's pitch:
"What if we had this guy, who could manage the team, create the content, raise a child, develop product, do the advertising, help everyone else do their job, and then go race himself?"

Ben Cathro:
"done...."
  • 5 0
 Outstanding bit of filmmaking!
  • 4 0
May have shed a lil tear with Ben there. Props to all involved, amazing bit of work that, really exceptional.
  • 4 0
Just when you think cathrovision is the ultimate he ups it about 5 levels. Great stuff
  • 2 0
Loved the content, but loved the comments section with its emotionally expressive men who probably go shred the gnar and go home bleeding without complaint half the time just as much. Thank you.
  • 4 0
Outside, whatever you are paying Ben and his team please triple it. This is pure internet gold.
  • 2 0
I was nearly bawling when Ben had tears in his eyes! Phenomenal content and I certainly can't wait for the Jerseys to go on sale. Will they be available in Child's Sizes also?
  • 1 0
Genuinely one of the best series out there. Great content and cathro seems one of the most sincere and all round nice bloke with a lot of talent for riding, presenting and mentoring others. It's a refreshing and inspiring. You've found a good'un here pinkbike
  • 2 0
Lenzerheide was not part of the weekend plan, but after this video I'm thinking about how I can motivate my wife (Kids are not the problem) to go there tomorrow. Just to maybe talk to BC.
  • 1 0
Absolutely brilliant stuff, Cathie is a top bloke and he deserves every bit of success and I wish him much more. Hope we are lucky enough that he continues to be in front of the camera for a long time. His coverage has me watching DH again and paying more attention to it.
  • 2 0
 FS autocorrect “Cathro”
  • 1 0
@ironhorse-rider: lol I just figured you knew him and that was a common thing friends called him
  • 1 0
When Henry says there's a general feeling that Ben never had the chance to reach his full potential I was kind of shocked. I mean most people would agree with that sentiment, but he finished top 30 arguably out of practice and maybe slightly past his prime, he's been releasing standard setting content for a few years now, and now he's paying it forward in the classiest way. I would say Cathro is truly showing us exactly what he's capable of and he's nothing short of legendary. Truly a mountain bike hero. Good job to everyone involved. NOW LET ME PAY FOR A JERSEY!!! That kit is do dialed!!
  • 3 0
What a great video. Keep up the good work. Best of luck to the whole team for the coming races.
  • 2 0
Literally the best series PB has ever put together. The racing program has to stay, such a rad use of resouces in the mountain biking world.
