Is it time to replace the pulley cage on your SRAM Transmission derailleur? If so, CeramicSpeed's OSPW X is a new (and very expensive) option, a $669 USD upgrade that claims to deliver increased drivetrain efficiency and improved durability, with a lifetime warranty to back that up.
Like the Danish brand's other OSPW (over-sized pulley wheel) systems, the OSPW X gets a larger lower pulley wheel, reducing the chain's angle of articulation as it enters the cage, thereby reducing overall friction. But, that's not CeramicSpeed's biggest claim, here. No, the main attraction of this cage upgrade is its lifetime warranty, made possible with the help of its "Active Debris Removal" (ADR) function.

ceramicspeed.com This is essentially a dust cover that encloses the stainless steel bearing and its aluminum housing with a "bladed groove cover" that sits over it. The latter is said to "dynamically extract debris from the pulley wheel while it’s rotating". Off-road partnerships manager at CeramicSpeed says "it basically keeps everything running super fast, forever".
Senior product manager, Paul Sollenberger, explains in more detail, "ADR is composed of two main parts. On each face, there is a precisely shaped stainless steel shield that locates on the bearing inner race and does not rotate. The second part is a unique fiber-reinforced composite polyamide material, the same material as the tooth profile, that is molded as part of the alloy Alpha disc pulley itself. The material passes through ports in the alloy disc ensuring that it is fixed in place and will not rotate or come apart from the pulley. The directional bladed profile rotates with the pulley and is the 'active' portion of the patent-pending Active Debris Remover technology. The bearing is pressed into the alloy portion of the Alpha disc for a secure fitment".
For sure, the engineers could have used a double-lipped contact seal to keep contaminants away from the bearing, but they weren't happy with the friction this would add. We are told the precision fit of the ADR interface adds zero drag to the bearing or pulley wheel.
While the stock derailleur cage on all SRAM Transmission derailleurs has a 14t upper pulley and a 16t lower pulley, the CeramicSpeed OSPW X boasts a 14t/20t pairing. And, they're made of a fiber-reinforced composite, said to last longer than other composite pulley wheels, or aluminum versions.
The narrow-wide pulley teeth are co-molded with the two-piece aluminum discs that give the OSPW X its unique aesthetic. While the SRAM Transmission XX SL derailleur has a magic pulley that allows the teeth to continue rotating if a branch gets stuck in the wheel, the OSPW X has no need for anything of the sort. Given that the pulley wheels are gap-free, there's a greatly reduced chance of any wayward sticks causing a mechanical.
CeramicSpeed says the OSPW X requires minimal maintenance, perhaps only 2-3 times per year, dependent on riding habits. In the event of bearing function deterioration or the development of an issue that cannot be solved through basic maintenance (stripping, cleaning and re-assembling), CeramicSpeed will replace the pulleys. They also say that if anything happens to the cage while installed on the bike, it would also be covered for replacement.
Wait... let me grab my glasses....
Oh....
Wouldn't sram an Shimano allready have a similar desighn on thier mechs............
Not that I think this thing will realistically think this will add anything to performance in any meaningful way what so ever.
Big manufacturers are targeting a big audience. They have to consider that the visuals of a big pulley wheel may look off to some people - even if it's made of unicorn hair and weighs 1g this does look bigger and clunkier than the stock options.
They also have to hit certain price points for the whole package, and perhaps I'm being naively optimistic here but they may even have considered that a bigger pulley wheel will sit a bit closer to the rocks and roots that could damage it and decided the performance wasn't worth the risk.
This product is aimed at people who want the best performance, full stop. I have never tried and will never try it, so I can't say if it delivers on that, but that's clearly the aim.
Thank you. Spit out my coffee and now my keyboard is a total mess. Damn.
Stop believing the king of bullshit - he’s a snake oil salesman.

Full. Of. Shit.
CeramicSpeed provides custom solutions for industry, sport and motorsports.
The bike division of shimano is 4 x the size of its fishing division - it represents over 80% of total turnover - not sure how that's split between MTB and road as they are strong in the road sector but it will still be hugely significant and an absolutely massive and vital part of the company revenue.
Shimano have always been slower to 'innovate' compared to SRAM, its always been their way, to say they dont care about MTB though is just complete and utter bilge, total shit.
Do you have any factual information to back up your opinion at all - myself and others have some facts, you seem to bring only your personal opinion which is worthless.
A statement for you from 2021:
"Shimano invented the concept of "system components," a set of bike parts such as gear shifters and brakes. This increased Shimano's global brand power, earning it the nickname "the Intel of bicycle components." Shimano now holds a global market share of about 80% for bicycle drivetrains: At this year's Tour de France, 17 of the 23 participating teams use Shimano's parts"
I am sure you aren't ready to let fact override your feelings on this one and will come back with 'yea but the remaining 20% are all the performance models' or some other such shit but the truth is there in black and white.
Shimano do care, shimano do sell and no shimano couldnt 'wipe out' sram if it wanted to do so with the flick of a pen.
Been riding for well over 20 years, sorry to burst that bubble - SRAM's turnover 10 years ago was half what it is now and its reach in the high end bike world much less.
Why are Shimano losing some of the market to SRAM? I don't know, SRAM are maybe more innovative, more likely to take risks, have targeted more specific areas of the market, are able to provide a full build kit to OEM inc forks, shock etc.
Who beat who to the e-bike market? - SRAM have used brose but Shimano have their own, do they not?
Is the position 'shimanoz downt care animore' as you say - absolutely not. Are they neglecting their MTB division - the 80% coverage of the market says not, regardless how you 'feel' because you have been a notorious bad mtb boy for long time.
Companies grow, companies fade, companies innovate, companies stagnate, companies move in all sorts of directions due to culture, strategy and expertise.
As for the drivetrain, I will most probably go CUES 11 speed next. I understand that "high end" (i.e. pricey as f*ck) is better from SRAM, but what I (and most people really) need is a good value long lasting drivetrain. Being "slow" means nothing, we re not racing XC here. What I need is a cassette with good spacing, without aluminium cogs and for a reasonable price and rear mech with adjustable clutch, so I can make my bike quiet and minimize clutch influence on suspension. That's it. Nothing more.
Interesting that you guys have different pricing over in Europe as far as brakes go. Maybe Shimano sells more there so they can lower the prices and still get the same revenue.
You really are completely full of shite.
@justanotherusername
Guys... regardless of who's right or wrong here.. it's time to step away from the keyboard and move on
Tell me you have no idea about retail and the bike industry without telling me you have no idea.

Look, I can see the benefits of some of the overpriced CeramicSpeed stuff in elite level road and track riding. However, in mountain biking, drivetrain friction and drag is nowhere near as significant a limiting factor to performance as it is in road/track bikes. Suspension kinematics, traction and other factors would be much more significant to mountain biking performance.
In terms of "Active Dirt Removal". Just wash your bike vaguely decently and use normal jockey wheels. Assuming £20 for a pair of SRAM jockey wheels, you could buy 26 sets for the price of 1 of these cages. Far be it from me to tell other people how to spend their money, but this just seems an outrageous price for a such minimal gain in performance.
I agree that is not really something anyone should or could buy, full stop. But it is cool, unlike any other major motorsport, that the 1% of the 1% trick parts, is offered to the public.
I don't think I've maintained my current mech in 2-3 years, so this sounds like a lot of work
He then uses the loud mouth platform to sell horrendously overpriced bottom brackets and bearings -he’s a nasty piece of work hiding behind the character he has created, he happily went after a journalist once publicly questioning her fertility etc, lovely chap who gives f*ck all of substance back to the industry.
His own products are expensive, but if you get one, you know it'll be nearly "perfect". And it seems like they are made in very small batches.
It would be great to see a Hambini made frame, at a cost comparable to others (come on, there aren't many $5000 frames he as reviewed) then we can see what true perfection is, pretty much the whole bike industry fails in this guys eyes - but the truth is it would be 3x the cost as it would take 3x the time to produce and the reality is it wouldn't ride any better, it just wouldn't.
The stuff he makes is a piece of piss to be 'perfect' - its a tube made on a lathe with a bearing pressed in, whoopie do.
The older $800 model is hear: Unicorn Guano
to be fair we are lucky we even have people like him calling out brands on their BS instead of pretentious reviewers who bootlicks brands for money
Follow me for more hacks.
Ceramic speed is litteraly a metastasis in the bike industry. They are selling dreams since their beginning.
The cage/pulley looks injection molded and this is an inexpensive process no matter what the composite is. OneUp had the v1 dropper lever in the same kind of material and it was cheap.
The brainless sheeps who will buy these at $600 are getting fist f*cked HARD.
Thanks!
But that frame you propose is not the most expensive at all.
The Eewings were the most expensive cranks a few years back but now there are other brands above. Sturdy Cycles, for instance, have a 3D printed titanium crankset for over £1K. They look better than the eewings, and after more than a year with them, no scratches on them.
Modern mopeds are just smaller/lessend scooters.
That argument is rubbish and you know it.
Pedalling in someway is contributing to the going forward momentum
Almost as if, maybe eBikes aren't much money for those of us who value hard work.
Speaking of, just clocked back in. Spent the morning in another flight lesson. Fun way to spend $170 an hour.
Seriously, $700 to upgrade something that’s already expensive, was just released, and is a poor substitute for a real “transmission”?
Come on …
Then I remember the Garbaruk cage with Dward titanium pulleys in my AXS derailleur and shut the f*ck up.
Sorry to say folks life isn't fair. And this is why I pedal.
On a more serious note, are the bearings any better than the shite sram use?
So explain to me this.....the SRAM Transmission already addresses the debris issue...but one of the selling features of this $669 upgrade is that it'll accomplish the exact same thing the part you are replacing already does?
Pretty sure the founder has never heard of hambini
Stupid old corporate f*cks and their greed. Your engineers can't even get past more marketing bs to explain it. Because it's a sham.
And I've never had an entire BRANCH in my wheel. Maybe a small stick every couple years. Literally making shit up to "add value".
Good job PB you posted clickbait in a sneaky fashion!

The road bike ones that I saw were going from $50 to $475.
Thanks. I'll check email out!
If it does then Pidcock might want one.
Almost as cool, only 17 euro
