Eurobike is back in Frankfurt for another year of showcasing the latest tech and plenty of unique e-mobilty concepts. After a busy first day here is what we spotted after our first pass through the exhibition halls.

photo

One bike that seems to be appearing all over Eurobike this year is the prototype race bike being run by the Gamux Factory Racing team. We have seen this bike at three booths so far, although this one seems to have a slightly different rear end than the other two bikes on show.

The other prototype Gamux bikes seem to be using this different black rear chainstay.

Scott was showing off Dangerholm's incredibly light Scott Lumen SL eMTB, it weighs just 12.9 kg (28.4 lb). The custom-build features parts from Intend, Garbaruk, Trickstuff and CeramicSpeed.

After first seeing it at Sea Otter, the new Orange Switch 6 was front and center on Orange's display.

photo

Alongside the launch of its new made in the UK Msisle eMTB hardtail Orange is also making the Switch hardtail at its UK facility. The Switch frame takes forks of 150mm and the expected cost will be £1200 for a frame.

Sticking with hardtails and once again the Nicolai stand had some great-looking bikes including this one with an incredible paint job.

photo

The Bosch stand was making a big show of its new SX Performance line motor. This new motor is designed for the growing class of lightweight eMTBs offering 600W peak power and 55Nm of torque with a weight of 2kg. Combined weight with a 400Wh battery is around 4kg.

photo
The new eMTB insert from Cushcore isn't the brand's only new product as it also has some new valve colors. The four new colors include the always popular purple and oil slick options.

Don't know your seattube diameter? If that's you then byschulz has the tool for you. Just like any respectable bicycle tool there is also a bottle opener.

photo
The AGU Winter City Slicker is said to be only available in white for 'ecological reasons.' It might not be the best color for anyone heading off-road or riding in winter conditions.

reTyre was back at Eurobike this year with its new breakthrough after launching a modular tire system a few years ago. The new technology from reTYRE sees the company introduce what it claims is the world's first rubber-free pneumatic bicycle tire. The tires are made with a bio-based material and are said to be 100% reusable. Another benefit claimed by reTYRE is that with this technology the bio-based tire can be more easily produced in local manufacturing facilities decreasing the need to ship tires all around the globe. It will be interesting to see if any of the big names pick up a similar technology.

Hidden alongside all the eye-catching Trickstuff eye candy we spotted this prototype downhill bike from Myotragus Bikes.

The Eurobike circus is only just kicking off. Stay tuned for more fresh tech from Frankfurt.

Orange's designer needs to chill, put down the mouse...less is more yo

You said “designer” like you meant “designer”

£1200 for a HT Frame... They can GFY

I want to like Orange Bikes, I really do, but they're making it very hard. Like, who the f*ck approved that thing?
  • 5 0
@C1audio: This is exactly how I feel...
  • 4 0
@C1audio: you think they have some kind of approval process?
  • 1 1
To me it looks really good, better than regular Orange frames with no storage. Regular Orange bikes design look quite old and boring.
  • 8 0
@naptime: I quite like the look of it but £1,200 for an alu frame is a tough sell. That was ti money not long ago.
  • 5 0
@tremeer023: It's wild what they're trying to charge. That's a custom steel frame price.

@C1audio: the drawing was an A3 print that obviously had been folded to a4 they did the back end on monday and turned the drawing over tuesday to do the front end , no one ever saw it fully on paper till someone went ……whhhhhhaaaaaa get the drawing out
  • 1 1
@C1audio: They are and always will be the ugliest bikes of all time....
  • 4 0
@tremeer023: £90 more gets you that Nicolai. If it was spending ££ on a hardtail frame I know which I’d be choosing

 Love the Nicolai paintjob.

I painted my old road bike with some rattle cans back in the early 90s - what was old has become new once more. Maybe I should do it again with my Bronson.....
  • 20 1
I gotta admit, I’m kinda over the idler thing.
Yup. I said it

We were over it 20 years ago

Isn't it necessary for high pivot?
  • 2 0
@mkul7r4: Probably not. It's just the cool fad right now (or again) that will die out very soon no matter what people say how they ride. Other bikes that don't have the same system just as well, if not better. I thought we learned less is more a long time ago?
  • 1 0
@Longrider: well it is vital to solving the HP chain growth problem but, high pivots were done years ago
  • 15 0
1200 quid for an AL hardtail. Hmm.
  • 2 0
That used to be the price for a full Orange bike not too long ago
  • 2 0
I paid 1000 EUR for a titanium HT frame in 2018, same frame is around 1500 today. "Boutique" AL frames like Banshee's Paradox are around 1000 in Germany now. Tough competition for the Orange + these price hikes take a lot of fun out of this hobby.

@ullsen: i remember buy my 08 Norco Manic frame brand new for like 300 bucks lol man how times have changed
  • 9 0
A cotic bfe max frame is like £600. You’d have to be crazy to pay twice that for one of these.
  • 2 0
@bobpretend: and the Cotic will ride a whole lot better.

The measuring thingy some shops may already own is called a caliper. It can do more than seatpost tubes, too. Also, WTF e-air valves?
  • 4 0
I guess this is just quicker to use. Jewellers use something similar to size rings
  • 3 0
@CustardCountry: Hmmm...maybe. Better get some more of these products to market ASAP. There are so many things that need measuring! Wink
  • 2 0
There are a few companies that already make these. Every shop I've worked in has had one or two. And if you can't open a beer with literally every other bicycle tool, pedal, or maintenance fixture, you shouldn't be a mechanic. The game is to never use the same tool twice when opening 5 o'clock sodas.

My wife has a seat tube measuring tool in her bedside table. Guess I should move that out to the garage.
  • 2 0
This type of tool (I'm familiar with the ones made by J.A. Stein) can be more decisive when measuring a seat tube that's not perfectly circular (i.e., ovalized).
  • 9 0
It looks like Orange did everything they could to make their ht ultra stiff. Almost makes the Nikolai ht look "compliant".
  • 2 0
Good point, I wonder how a HT with all those "boxy" tubes, gussets etc. rides? I can't imagine it to be any sort of forgiving or remotely comfortable.
  • 4 0
 @ullsen:
Pace … look it up
  • 6 0
@NZRalphy: I collect/hoard retro bikes and used to own a Pace RC200. If you like having a spine I'd strongly recommend going no where near an RC200. It is by far the most uncomfortable bike I've ever ridden.
  • 3 0
I used to have an Orange Air-O (Missile with tubes for the front triangle). Pretty sure it’s responsible for the back issues I’ve had ever since
  • 2 0
Check out Banshee ht frames (Padadox or Enigma), they have engineered compliance into their alu frames. Production has come a long way since the Ms isle days. I had an Identiti Dr Jeckyl xl many years ago and it was so uncomfortable. Santa Cruz Chameleon amongst a few others is meant to be super comfy too.

@captainclunkz: One of the few frames that can truly make a pneumatic tire seem like a solid one; I feel your pain..
  • 7 0
I saw dangerholms bike weighed 28.4 lbs and I was thinking to myself.....thats not THAT impressive....then I saw it was an e-bike....impressive!
  • 1 0
Didn’t he get a smaller battery made for it to reduce weight (and I assume range)?
  • 1 0
@CustardCountry: He got a custom carbon casing made, and Ti bolts to fit it all, but no a smaller battery I believe?
  • 1 0
@christiaan: oh, was that it, I remember seeing on his IG but I was tired.

Rubber comes from trees.
  • 6 0
 Styrene-butadiene rubber doesn't, though.

A winter jacket only available in white? Hmm. Bad for trails and worse for the road. I'll take one.
  • 3 2
It doesn't bother me really. You'll just look as dirty as you are. Those who want to look clean can always stay home and get a game console.
  • 4 0
@vinay: I thinks he is talking about being camouflaged.
  • 2 0
No kidding. And "City Slicker". Guaranteed to have a dirty stripe up the back riding in a city in the rain.

Is pinions electronic shifting going to make it to their non-motor version?
  • 3 0
It already has, but cannot be retrofitted.
  • 3 0
That Switch 6 is clearly Pink, not Orange.
  • 2 0
The Orange Switch 6 swing arm can be used as a weapon during an apocalypse. Something to think about...
  • 2 0
 Myotragus sounds like a disease
  • 1 0
My tires are also 100% reusable.
  • 1 0
 Mine are just circular.
