PRESS RELEASE: Wethepeople

A whole new world of fun, the Wethepeople Swamp Master is our first full suspension complete BMX bike. Inspired by the days of old when a BMX bike came in many forms, we set to make a bike that combines the all-terrain versatility of a mountain bike with classic BMX roots and fun. Made to shred both bike parks and dirt jumps alike, this bike is unique to say the least.

Engineered in Cologne, Germany, the Swamp Master is designed for just about every terrain whilst providing the freedom of movement and simplicity that a BMX bike has always offered. Spec’d with a mixture of our own aftermarket BMX components and genuine MTB parts from Kenda and Manitou, the Swamp Master is the first production complete bike of its kind. Love it or hate it, we dare you to take it for a spin and come back without a huge smile on your face.

Will we see new BMXers now coming from a mountain bike background?
  • 33 0
 Our time has come!
  • 9 0
Finally I can get some BMX experience without hurting my old back!

@superging a mini MTB with SUPER flex stays. Wow
  • 17 0
@RBalicious: are those really flex stays or is it just hard to see a concentric BB pivot? I can't imagine getting enough flex out of something that burly (and if they do flex that much, I'd worry they'd break eventually. . .)
  • 15 1
@gtill9000: i would assume they are cocentric. those would be snap-stays otherwise. it just doesnt look big because bmx bbs are small. it looks like it uses the bb bearings as pivots
  • 9 0
 @RBalicious: Concentric BB pivot
  • 2 0
@mior: ah, I see it now
  • 4 0
@gtill9000: the main pivot is inside the BB shell. You can see the cut away from the non-drive side back-quarter view.
  • 14 0
BMX was the original DH MTB www.pinkbike.com/photo/10839280
  • 1 0
@jonjonj0nnyjon: Oh, god. That looks like a crud-trap.

Perfect way to grind away anything resembling bearings in your BB.
  • 29 1
Can you imagine the 20" wheels in the braking bumps at Whistler on any of the jumps trails....maybe theyd just be little doubles and triples leading into every jump....
  • 3 0
 @onawalk I think it’s been done. Don’t know what run he’s on m.youtube.com/watch?v=uM61S2ri7m4
  • 4 1
 @blueH2Oj: Spectacular!
I wouldnt want to do it, and i bet he didnt spend the day doing it either, but it was fun to see
  • 2 0
@blueH2Oj: there's some Dirt Merchant pro line in there, some freight train and some other stuff I can't be sure of.
  • 3 0
@onawalk: Jacob is a local, and rips bikepark daily on that bmx. hes even flipped crabs on it !
  • 4 0
@blueH2Oj: when you ride so good, that you take a wrong bike to make trails thrilling and scarry again Big Grin
  • 1 0
 @PeterT: Thats incredilbe!
I'll keep my eyes open looking for that!
  • 21 2
Was this the BMX that Ruben Alcantara threw a fit about and WTP agreed to launch 1 year later...? www.pinkbike.com/news/video-ruben-alcantaras-full-suspension-bmx-bike.html
  • 1 0
 Yes it was.
  • 4 5
after WTP ripped him off for a second time...........
  • 4 3
 @naptime: Lord, not this again
  • 2 1
@sunringlerider: be a different story if someone ripped you blah blah blah yawn zzzzzzz x
  • 4 5
@naptime: what laughable is there are literally thousands of full suspension bikes, a full suspension 20" is nothing new and extraordinary. But yet every one is super butt hurt because they stole his design for a full suspension 20"???? Wait until Thomas Edison sees they new LED light thingys, wheeeeew he's going to be pissed.
  • 22 0
I want to see huck to flat
  • 17 0
I love it and not exactly sure why...
  • 8 0
Maybe you would beat Cru if you had that..
  • 5 0
 @lumpy873: That would be Rad.
  • 1 0
 I want one!
  • 1 0
@sanchofula: if I had the money, I would have one on order...
  • 15 0
1950?! You can’t show mountain bikers prices like that. That’s petty cash!
  • 16 0
What is this, a shock for ants????
  • 4 0
What is this, a mountain bike for ants????
  • 15 1
Did no one tell the bmx guys that high pivot is the only answer. jeez
  • 10 0
Now we can all brag about our BMX foreground
  • 9 0
Just wanna say - really digging that video, riding, outside box thinking, music....all came together great...
  • 14 6
Its nice that this suspension will be smooth enough to finally keep those yamaka-style beanies on your silly heads.
  • 5 0
W.T.P. are the venerable Golden retrievers of the BMX world. While there are few that stand before the Swampmaster, it is here now and it's wagging its tail, tongue hanging sideways out of a huge smile with those eyes that say let's get muddy, dirty and full of happiness.

I built a 24” full suspension Rumblefish Bmx / mtb hybrid back in 1991 and raced the Mammoth mountain kamikaze downhill and dual slalom. That bike is the funniest bike I’ve ever rode. See photo’s. www.pinkbike.com/photo/16539118 www.pinkbike.com/photo/21289214 www.pinkbike.com/photo/21287337
  • 2 0
 Awesome!
  • 14 5
 Ruben did it first
  • 3 0
 Yes, three years ago
  • 15 0
Yamaha did it nearly 50 years ago.
  • 3 0
@watchtower: i would kill for a moto-bike in decent condition
  • 2 0
Then why did a bunch of people yell about these guys stealing his thunder a year or so ago? And then they, for some very uncapitalist reason, decided to wait and allow FC to beat them to actual market. If FC truly "did it first" (it being successfully commercializing FS BMX production) there wouldn't have been all that kerfuffle previously.
  • 3 0
Ruben certainly didn’t do it first mate, it’s just that’s the first you saw of it
  • 8 1
Bring back downhill bmx and I'm sure this rules the day there. But like, just get a sloepstyle bike lol
  • 8 0
Can we have a long term test on this bike?
  • 5 0
I bought a BMX race bike for under $1K CDN this year. It was race ready, weighs only 19lbs, and has handled any abuse I can dish out so far (BMX track, pump track, dirt jumps). Best $$ spent.
  • 8 0
 Thing is so sick
  • 5 0
Why isn't there an Odyssey Gyro for park bikes?
  • 6 0
 Dropper post?
  • 3 0
$1950 US complete? I'm getting back into BMX. On a serious note, that thing is rad. Brooklyn Machine Works did similar although I don't recall a suspension fork.
  • 1 0
IIRC BMW made their own, inverted suspension fork.
  • 2 0
Yep. It was also 55 lbs. Saw that thing get ridden down there backside of Mtn. Creek with only a rear brake and we were cooking. And high as f.
  • 1 0
is it just me or is everything in the clip just looking too small? Big Grin

dont get me wrong, i love everything about the clip. tone is nice, riding is sweet, music is on spot.
but after the intro-shot i was expecting the guy so send a massive banger over the dirtjumps. the airtime was pretty cute afterwards Big Grin
  • 1 0
I went (in 1'5 years) through a lot of shock rebuilds and at least 3 brand new rear shocks in my dmr bolt frame. The curve of the frame, the short travel=bad combination. I think I can imagine what it would be like in this bike. Not to mention the lack of sensitivity for the pressure needed.
  • 1 0
Feel like BMX riders might not really like this bike and MTB riders probably won't either. Pretty slack and long for a BMX. Slope bikes on MTB trails are pretty uncomfortable as it is, can't imagine riding one with smaller wheels.
  • 1 0
I think WTP should make this a "Built to order" bike - I can imagine this would appeal to many people at all....don't get me wrong it looks like it could be fun but not many people have that coin to throw at something like this.

Ebike version will be out in 2025
  • 1 0
I love it! If it's close to a BMX in feel, I'd buy it for sure. I used to ride a lot, but life has caught up and only get to ride jumps etc. occasionally now. I have my BMX and a Transition Triple, but I often wish I had something a bit smaller than the slopestyle bike but more forgiving then the BMX, because I tend to case more now as takes me a few runs to get up to speed.
  • 4 0
really had to chuckel at the video reference
  • 5 0
 all bikes evolve to MTB
  • 4 0
 At least it's under $10K.
  • 5 0
 No Dropper?
  • 1 0
I know who this bike is for - have you ever felt that you got to the level when your fav trails are underwhelming? Well get a wrong bike for a job, adrenaline will pump again Big Grin
  • 1 0
Dutch rider @sem_kok riding on full suspension bmx couple of years now.https://www.instagram.com/p/C0UWwbxtcIq/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==
There is a video where he rides the Nico Vink line at Ferme Libert bikepark in Malmedy
  • 1 0
I'm sure the WTP marketing department is happy this showed up on the same day as a guy hitting bigger stuff on a gravel bike.
  • 3 0
Weird... Why do I feel like I need one?
  • 1 0
 N+1. It’s just science…
  • 2 0
If the chainstay length never changes, is the chainstay just a glitch in the matrix?
  • 2 1
Dangerholm seems to manage quite ok without the bouncy bits.

Love it. Would get this to ride with my kids.

 DownBMX

Or...

BMXcountry?
  • 2 0
Cool. Now let's make sure we build actual MTB trails that mean it's not possible to ride this thing.
  • 3 1
20~ years on bmx & 3~ years on mtb, I don't see the point here.
  • 6 0
When the arthritis sets in, that's when the "ah ha" moment will happen and you'll say, "those 20 years were rough, but glory is forever."
  • 3 0
@AppleJack76: Buts that's why I moved over to mtb?
  • 2 0
That's not valid enough. Also.. there all gone. Go Swampmonster
  • 2 0
 No high pivot?
So unrideable on proper downhill tracks?
  • 2 0
what's the leverage curve on this one?
  • 1 0
Don't understand how the shock can work with all those welds and reinforcements
  • 2 0
Is this a "flex-stay" rear end essentially? I don't see a lower pivot?
  • 11 0
looks like its welded inside or something. look super closely at the BB shell and theres a cutout
  • 4 0
If you look close you can see there are slots in the back of the BB that the chainstay yoke goes into. I'm assuming they're using the BB spindle as the pivot and there are bearings or bushings the yoke rotates on.
  • 2 0
Single pivot with concentric bottom bracket. They use these so that there's no chain growth when the suspension flexes. That means you don't need a derailleur or external chain tensioner. A chain tensioner looks roughly like a derailleur and is confused with chain tugs which are what most people refer to as tensioners which you find at the sliding drop outs on bolt on rear ends. It looks like this frame doesn't come with built in chain tugs.
  • 2 0
@mior: The concentric pivot is pretty normal in slopestyle bikes. You might check out the digit datum for a MTB equivalent. They are very cool
  • 2 0
@therealnobody: yeah i know about CC pivots. datum with an eccentric bb would be really cool for a tensionerless singlespeed
  • 1 0
@mior: I apologize, I didn't intend to tag you in my last comment. Thank you for your positive response!
The datum's use of the concentric BB is really cool. I never thought to use the concentric BB for tensioning a single speed. Thank you for that idea!
  • 3 0
@therealnobody: eccentric bb is different than cocentric. eccentric bottom brackets allow for singlespeed on fixed dropout bikes, and cocentric pivots allow for no chain growth under suspension action
  • 1 0
 @mior: Thank you!
Concentric suspension pivots on this bike, Slopestyle bikes and datum
Eccentric bottom bracket for single speed without adjustable/ sliding dropouts without tensioner
  • 2 0
That video is dope. Not sure about the bike though.
  • 1 0
I'm just here to say that it's great to hear some old school PE in a MTB (ok, BMX) video.
  • 2 0
 That’s actually pretty cool!!
  • 3 0
 Sign me UP!
  • 1 0
... I just don't understand what market they are after here. I had a chance to try one at my local BMX shop. Felt terrible.
  • 1 0
Adding a dropper and a derailleur with 3 speed cassette would make this bike more versatile and fun.
  • 4 3
 Stolen from Ruben Alcantara?
  • 1 1
 for the second time
  • 1 0
@naptime: you’re really willing to die on this hill. The fingerscrossed bike is never gonna hit the market, so why not make these accessible to people that want them. If it came down to it, I’d rather buy one of these from FC, but I can’t see that ever being possible, although, I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed
  • 1 0
@samthirks: so lets sayyyy somebody like commencal released a frame that looked identical to say BTR? would the same standards apply then??
  • 2 0
@naptime: That entirely depends on whether BTR had failed to follow through with the release of their product for 4 years, no? The bigger question is, would you wait for an undisclosed period of time to buy the BTR, or would you buy the Commencal when it was available there and then? This is not me disregarding that FC did it first either, my point is that WTP made it available for the people that want to buy the thing. And yeah, you can buy the ‘hardtail’ Ti FC frame, but other than rear disc mount, what differentiates it from say, a BSD frame?
  • 1 0
When will they put a dropper post on it?
  • 1 0
Everybody gangsta till you see a 12 year old flip whip this
  • 9 7
 Wecopypeople
  • 7 2
Just so we're clear WHO are you saying copy? Fingers crossed, deathpack, the host of other people who have released fs BMX in the last 40 years or somebody/ everybody else?
I've been hoping for a fingers crossed complete for almost 2 years but they still don't have one. Deathpack stopped making conversions to yield to fingers crossed and WTP say they waited 2 years to give them a chance to get going.
I must be missing something right?
  • 3 1
@therealnobody: maybe you missed the first time they ripped off rubens frame desighn........
  • 2 0
@therealnobody: WTP did hold off but they couldn't get it together to get to market.. im amazed they even waited that long tbh. BMX and getting it together have never really appeared in the same sentence. FingersX might benefit from WTPs launch and be able to see whatever short comings may arise and if they are smart enough, do it better.
  • 2 0
@naptime: Do you mind sharing which frame and which one copied? I want to learn about it
  • 1 0
 @therealnobody:
  • 1 0
 This makes me feel uncomfortable
  • 2 0
 Steeper for 2024?
  • 1 0
I really want one of these
  • 1 0
 Those stanck-cions are too big!!
  • 1 0
Bring back the avenger, or at least a 29er version.
  • 1 0
Quiver... expander! This thing is dope. I want it.
  • 1 0
Kids these days are getting soft

 Things you must have. This.
  • 1 0
can we please get sam pilgrim on one?

Mountain biking is what BMX was meant to be
  • 1 0
BMX with TWO brakes? No thanks…
  • 1 0
just because you can, doesn't always mean you should
  • 1 0
Also. These r completely sold the fuck out
  • 3 3

  • 1 0
 This!!
  • 1 0
 Needs an e-motor
  • 1 0
 No dropper?
  • 1 0
 Needs a dropper post.
  • 1 0
