PRESS RELEASE: HANDUP

We have expanded to apparel in 2018 and have continued to produce items that meet three criteria: It performs. It's causal. It's fun.

The Stretch Jorts, worn by Ryan Standish at the 2019 West Virginia World Cup XC Race were the first venture into "active denim" and have become a staple for riders of many different disciplines. We decided it was time to leave a little material below the knee to create an affordable, Super-Stretch pair of adventure-ready jeans.

 Wow, they obviously didn't discuss this pricing with other MTB clothing brands. Riding pants have an absolute price minimum of $120. Get out of here with this genuinely reasonable clothing price.

 @HardtailHerold: Damn.... we didn't consider that. We can invoice an extra $60 for a pair and call it a "marketing surcharge" that way yours can be faster, safer, {insert more buzz words}.

 FWIW, Ketl Mtn makes some pretty sweet riding pants for $85, and often lower if you wait for a sale/discount code. (I have no stake in their success, just mentioning it because I bought some and really like them, and I was impressed when they survived a crash I didn't expect them to).

The wrangler ATGs are great too, my only issue with those is they're not tapered at the bottom so if you don't sew them up somehow they can get snagged on stuff occasionally, at least on my bike.

 @mkul7r4: I was suprised by the pricepoint being less than other name brands....which will make most people here think theyre a bargain. So I think they hit the mark for a specialty marketed pant. But yeah, I'm with you. Three pair of pants from some distributor in Bentonville will definitely outlast these. The Dickies or Brahma are much more durable than the Wrangler.

 I don't see myself wearing these while mountain biking, but I do see these as something I would appreciate for days where I have a bunch of errands to run or am riding somewhere to meet up with friends.

 I love when manufacturers add comments to inform and elaborate on features in their own PB press release articles. Instead of just doing a writeup and releasing it out into the ether, it shows that they are paying attention to what their market is saying and what their concerns are. I like that. Then you have the ones that comment just to get defensive about shit. I just lol.

 There is definitely enough stretch to go down but, we'd recommend going up for comfort. If you aren't stoked on it, we have a rock solid exchange program.

 This is great: But, @HandupGloves, 1.) do they have a phone pocket, and 2.) what size should a tall skinny dude wear?
Finding a pair of pants that fit like a true 32 x 34 is pretty much impossible in the bike industry.

 1. No. Extra pockets make the cost go up. We feel like it's fine to slide that phone into one of the 4 pockets that are already there. Also, in our opinion, it would take away from them being truly-casual (albeit, minimally).

2. The size chart on the site should help with this. We know ordering jeans sucks and brands seem to just make up sizes. We try to provide a bunch of info to help with this. PLUS, with this much stretch, there is some margin for error on your at-home measuring. (and we have a solid exchange program if you need)

 @HandupGloves: the size guide for the AT+ pants show a 31” inseam for the medium (32” waist), but the jeans have the option of a 34” inseam with a 32” waist!

 @SW2020: Ah yes. Sorry about that. Read your first comment a little backwards. The AT+ pants are slowly but surely going through a redesign that will probably include a size expansion. We wanted to get jeans out but pants with longer inseams are in the pipeline.

 I don't bike in them much other then to the brewery and downtown but I really like the Handup Jorts so I might have to grab a pair.

 Stretchy jeans are the best. I've been wearing duer jeans for the last 4-5 years for normal stuff and DH any they have been great. These appear to be cheaper. The gusseted crotch seam to go first on the door, so I'll give these guys a try.

 I was going to buy Duer pants but at $150 cad a jeans. Got these today instead.

I rip my jeans crotches out quick. So i buy stretchy h&m cheap ass jeans and they rip as fast as name brand ones.

Ill be a good test of these for durability

 Just ordered a pair to check out. I wear a lot of MTB specific pants for riding. Tasco MTB and 100% are my current setup, but I hope these pants find there way to the top, because I really dig the casual/everyday look.

 @HandupGloves: I have a pair of the Wranglers and they work just fine for mtb. They are on the light side. That said I will be buying the jeans for the reasonable price and actually supporting an mtb brand.

 My ass got sweaty just looking at it. Is it as thick and non-breathable as a normal jeans? Cool if you do not ride uphill and only hang around on a local dirt spot, otherwise looks horrifying.

 Not at all. They are super stretchy and relatively thinner than normal jeans. Probably not the best for summer riding but that's why we make a shorts version.

 Their jorts are solid and not hot. I've done NUE hundred milers in July in them. Nice abrasion resistant cover for your chamois, grit doesn't work its way in plus 99% of people think it's awesome/hilarious/whatever and 1% of people are so annoyed by your existence it eats them to their very core and they have a meltdown, which is extraordinarily entertaining.

 They're pretty active answering all the other questions and comments on this article except this one and a couple others asking the same question so I'll assume they're made by kidnapped children who are chained to their sewing machine in a sweat shop in Mexico without air-con. Or they're made in China with toxic parts of the process, like fabric dye and whatnot. Probably can't keep the prices down like this if you care about that stuff, look at something like Patagonia, that shit is expensive but from what I understand they try their best to be fair and use shit that doesn't contribute too much to murdering Earth.

 @heyj: What they were made of was already answered on this thread. We only have so much time in the day. They ARE however made in china (not in the brutal way you described it) but like every other clothing manufacturer that makes clothing with a manufacturer that they have a great relationship with and visit often (Like Patagonia who makes their jeans in Sri Lanka)

 If you want stretchy jeans, choose DUER! They have polyester blended in the fabric to keep the shape similar to when you purchased them.

 Top tip: got to a New Yorker and buy stretchy jeans for 10€. Products don't need to be labeled "for MTB" to work Smile or pay up to have branded stuff.
