PRESS RELEASE: HANDUP

We have expanded to apparel in 2018 and have continued to produce items that meet three criteria: It performs. It's causal. It's fun.

The Stretch Jorts, worn by Ryan Standish at the 2019 West Virginia World Cup XC Race were the first venture into "active denim" and have become a staple for riders of many different disciplines. We decided it was time to leave a little material below the knee to create an affordable, Super-Stretch pair of adventure-ready jeans.

Technical Features:

- 4-Way Super Stretch Denim
- Full Length Inseam
- Tailored Fit Cut (Don't worry, there's still plenty of room)
- Standard 5-Pockets
- Double Stitched Belt Loops
- Standard Zipper Fly
- Hidden Zipper Messaging

At $69 MSRP, we believe we offer one of the most affordable pairs of jeans for both cycling and everyday use.

Wow, they obviously didn't discuss this pricing with other MTB clothing brands. Riding pants have an absolute price minimum of $120. Get out of here with this genuinely reasonable clothing price.
  • 83 0
ha. Yea we think that's absurd.
  • 31 0
There practically unrideable because they are dangerously under priced. I like my MTB clothes reassuringly expensive. That way I know I won't die!
  • 71 0
@HardtailHerold: Damn.... we didn't consider that. We can invoice an extra $60 for a pair and call it a "marketing surcharge" that way yours can be faster, safer, {insert more buzz words}.

I'm still gonna keep wearing $25 Wrangler ATG's
  • 20 0
@HandupGloves: You should just make a version with 10 "laser" cut holes, call it Pro and charge 199.
  • 21 0
 @lkubica: Consider it done
  • 2 0
@mkul7r4: They make ATG joggers that work for riding pants.
  • 8 0
FWIW, Ketl Mtn makes some pretty sweet riding pants for $85, and often lower if you wait for a sale/discount code. (I have no stake in their success, just mentioning it because I bought some and really like them, and I was impressed when they survived a crash I didn't expect them to).

The wrangler ATGs are great too, my only issue with those is they're not tapered at the bottom so if you don't sew them up somehow they can get snagged on stuff occasionally, at least on my bike.

@HandupGloves: I can actually afford new pants!
  • 2 1
@charliewentoutside: I like the wranglers too but the fabric durability leaves a bit to be desired.
  • 1 0
@mkul7r4: I was suprised by the pricepoint being less than other name brands....which will make most people here think theyre a bargain. So I think they hit the mark for a specialty marketed pant. But yeah, I'm with you. Three pair of pants from some distributor in Bentonville will definitely outlast these. The Dickies or Brahma are much more durable than the Wrangler.

Damn shame the denim destroyer isn't racing anymore
  • 20 0
 That dude is a badass
  • 4 0
He’s got his own line of denim MTB trousers now.
  • 2 0
@HandupGloves: What are these made out of? Cotton? Spandex? Elastane? Can't find it in your site
  • 5 0
 @wburnes: Cotton/Poly/Spandex.
  • 3 0
 @HandupGloves: what percent of each?
  • 38 1
 @wburnes: 69/42/0
  • 18 0
 half/half/half
  • 37 0
 "Do these work for skiing?"
-Dick Cheney

 69 bucks, nice
  • 6 0
 nice.
  • 13 0
 hell yea
  • 13 0
I don't see myself wearing these while mountain biking, but I do see these as something I would appreciate for days where I have a bunch of errands to run or am riding somewhere to meet up with friends.
  • 23 0
Honestly, that's exactly what they are made for. They can just handle a trail every once in a while if you need them to.
  • 11 0
I love when manufacturers add comments to inform and elaborate on features in their own PB press release articles. Instead of just doing a writeup and releasing it out into the ether, it shows that they are paying attention to what their market is saying and what their concerns are. I like that. Then you have the ones that comment just to get defensive about shit. I just lol.
  • 17 0
We'd hate to miss the opportunity to chop it up in the famously fun pink bike comment section.
  • 9 0
@HandupGloves if I’m in between sizes do I go for the size up like in a normal jean or are they stretchy enough to go down? I’m a 35 waist as a member of team dadbod….
  • 20 0
There is definitely enough stretch to go down but, we'd recommend going up for comfort. If you aren't stoked on it, we have a rock solid exchange program.
  • 2 0
 @HandupGloves: 36 are a perfect fit, a bit smaller than a Levi’s 505.
  • 2 0
 @somebody-else: Glad to hear it!
  • 5 0
This is great: But, @HandupGloves, 1.) do they have a phone pocket, and 2.) what size should a tall skinny dude wear?
Finding a pair of pants that fit like a true 32 x 34 is pretty much impossible in the bike industry.
  • 21 0
 1. No. Extra pockets make the cost go up. We feel like it's fine to slide that phone into one of the 4 pockets that are already there. Also, in our opinion, it would take away from them being truly-casual (albeit, minimally).

2. The size chart on the site should help with this. We know ordering jeans sucks and brands seem to just make up sizes. We try to provide a bunch of info to help with this. PLUS, with this much stretch, there is some margin for error on your at-home measuring. (and we have a solid exchange program if you need)
  • 1 2
@HandupGloves: wish your AT+ pants were sized similar to the jeans. No way a tall skinny guy can make those work Frown
  • 3 0
@SW2020: Which part exactly is off? happy to help
  • 1 0
@HandupGloves: the size guide for the AT+ pants show a 31” inseam for the medium (32” waist), but the jeans have the option of a 34” inseam with a 32” waist!
  • 2 0
@SW2020: Ah yes. Sorry about that. Read your first comment a little backwards. The AT+ pants are slowly but surely going through a redesign that will probably include a size expansion. We wanted to get jeans out but pants with longer inseams are in the pipeline.
  • 2 0
@HandupGloves: Thank you for all the responses and I’ll keep an eye out for the updated sizing!
  • 5 1
I don't bike in them much other then to the brewery and downtown but I really like the Handup Jorts so I might have to grab a pair.
  • 2 0
Stretchy jeans are the best. I've been wearing duer jeans for the last 4-5 years for normal stuff and DH any they have been great. These appear to be cheaper. The gusseted crotch seam to go first on the door, so I'll give these guys a try.
  • 6 1
Do they have the nub under your taint where the 4 panels over lap?
  • 1 0
I was going to buy Duer pants but at $150 cad a jeans. Got these today instead.

I rip my jeans crotches out quick. So i buy stretchy h&m cheap ass jeans and they rip as fast as name brand ones.

Ill be a good test of these for durability
  • 5 1
$69... a price Ronnie Mac would love, give or take 6 or 9 dollars.
  • 1 0
Just ordered a pair to check out. I wear a lot of MTB specific pants for riding. Tasco MTB and 100% are my current setup, but I hope these pants find there way to the top, because I really dig the casual/everyday look.
  • 2 0
A local dude just put 3000 miles into our jorts. These are (pun intended) just an extension of those. You should dig them.
  • 3 0
When will 40s be in stock though?
  • 3 0
They are in stock now. Having an issue with the site. Sorry about that
  • 2 0
#handupgloves did you only make 6 size 40 and they're sold out already? C'mon man! Fat guys like to buy stuff too!
  • 3 0
There is an issue with the website. Sorry about that. You should be able to still click the 40 and click add to cart. If not just stay tuned. We are currently working on it.
  • 2 0
@HandupGloves got them to remove it. Apologies. I will continue to support y’all in other ways than bumping promo codes.
  • 1 0
 Really appreciate that!
  • 1 0
Got a pair of these. Comfy but holy crap do they STINK. Nasty, mothball, formaldehyde stench that doesn't wash out. What's up with that?
  • 1 0
Finally, the premature-ejaculation-positive jeans we’ve been clamoring for. “Hidden zipper messaging.”
  • 6 0
thank you for finally seeing our favorite part. Figured our pro-not-lasting-long feature would have been the first comment.
  • 2 0
Can you PLEASE make a skinny fit chino version as well?
  • 6 0
FWIW, this is probably as skinny as we'll go.
  • 1 0
@HandupGloves: I have a pair of the Wranglers and they work just fine for mtb. They are on the light side. That said I will be buying the jeans for the reasonable price and actually supporting an mtb brand.
  • 1 0
 Dang it wrong thread.
  • 5 0
@vapidoscar: Thanks. That means a ton. Wrangler isn't as likely to support NICA programs, riders, trail building & maintenance, etc. We do that stuff daily.
  • 2 0
 China.
  • 8 10
My ass got sweaty just looking at it. Is it as thick and non-breathable as a normal jeans? Cool if you do not ride uphill and only hang around on a local dirt spot, otherwise looks horrifying.
  • 19 1
Not at all. They are super stretchy and relatively thinner than normal jeans. Probably not the best for summer riding but that's why we make a shorts version.
  • 14 0
Their jorts are solid and not hot. I've done NUE hundred milers in July in them. Nice abrasion resistant cover for your chamois, grit doesn't work its way in plus 99% of people think it's awesome/hilarious/whatever and 1% of people are so annoyed by your existence it eats them to their very core and they have a meltdown, which is extraordinarily entertaining.
  • 2 0
@HandupGloves: Great to hear that, most pants are not "best" for summer riding (except dh/ebike) anyway.
  • 3 0
To be fair even if, I don't ride in them, they look like a decent of set of jeans for daily life.
  • 3 1
 @lkubica: What is "summer riding"?
  • 1 0
 looks first, confort then...
  • 3 0
@Bitelio: summer is a month that occurs from June to September when it is warmest in the northern hemisphere. Summer riding is when yo iridescent your bike during this time
  • 3 0
 @HandupGloves: Summer= jeggings
  • 3 0
Those shorts had better be Dangerholm length, or I will be mildly peeved!!
  • 4 0
@xciscool: Scotland has only one season, mostly miserable all year round.
  • 1 0
Sick, definitely gonna grab a pair
  • 1 1
@HandupGloves: Some info on what they are made of and where they are made would be nice.
  • 3 5
They're pretty active answering all the other questions and comments on this article except this one and a couple others asking the same question so I'll assume they're made by kidnapped children who are chained to their sewing machine in a sweat shop in Mexico without air-con. Or they're made in China with toxic parts of the process, like fabric dye and whatnot. Probably can't keep the prices down like this if you care about that stuff, look at something like Patagonia, that shit is expensive but from what I understand they try their best to be fair and use shit that doesn't contribute too much to murdering Earth.
  • 6 0
@heyj: What they were made of was already answered on this thread. We only have so much time in the day. They ARE however made in china (not in the brutal way you described it) but like every other clothing manufacturer that makes clothing with a manufacturer that they have a great relationship with and visit often (Like Patagonia who makes their jeans in Sri Lanka)
  • 1 3
I was going to write all sorts of funny stuff about slavery and wages and price to customer but I won't. For the record I like your gloves better than any other I've had. The size large fits me like a.....what's the word..sock?
  • 2 0
@heyj: ha! we appreciate you sparing us the pun.. as you can imagine, it's lost it's luster after a decade of hearing it. Glad you dig the gloves!
  • 1 0
 Next up, performance jorts.
  • 6 0
We already did that 4 years ago
  • 1 2
If you want stretchy jeans, choose DUER! They have polyester blended in the fabric to keep the shape similar to when you purchased them.
  • 2 0
We have polyester as well. Those jeans are dope though.
  • 1 0
Are they as good as Chuck Norris Action Jeans?
  • 1 0
at the risk of being too bold here.... maybe better
  • 1 0
nice to see 38 x 34 even though they are out of stock...
  • 1 0
Sorry about that. We sold out so much quicker than we thought. Restock is in the works.
  • 1 0
Having belt loops puts these above 90% of other brands.
  • 1 0
Thanks for noticing. Having a belt on is a pretty big part of looking like a regular pair of jeans
  • 1 0
Ok ok. but jeans are out. When can I get a pair of grey riding joggers??
  • 2 0
Ketl make some sick riding jogger-ish pants. They gather at the bottom nicely!
  • 1 1
Now please add a leg pocket for a cell phone like carpenter's jeans and I'm in. Why do they still make pants with out this?
  • 1 3
Top tip: got to a New Yorker and buy stretchy jeans for 10€. Products don't need to be labeled "for MTB" to work Smile or pay up to have branded stuff.
  • 3 0
You are doing better than the other guy that found them for 20. Great work!
  • 1 1
If only they weren't skinny jeans...
  • 2 0
They are more tailored than skinny. Plus anything baggier wouldn't make sense since it'd get caught in the chain.
  • 1 0
 But are they waterproof?
  • 22 0
Hell yea. As long as you don't get them wet!
  • 3 5
If you're looking for budget riding pants, check out Walmart for the Wrangler stretchy hiking pants, very comfy, lots of colors, zipper pockets, and under $30
  • 5 0
 Hell yea. those sound dope
  • 1 1
 Pajama jeans already exist!
  • 5 0
 Damn. We'll just toss these.
  • 2 3
all jeans arep plenty stretchy for riding these days.. and cost like 20 bucks
  • 3 0
Where you getting your jeans? That sounds like a deal.
