I am sitting at a B&B in a small prairie-town watching snow fall as I write the first of three updates on my Canadian Trials of Life school and shop tour. This 2 ½ month long journey will see me visit some 40 schools, 12 bike shops, 2 festivals, and lead one retreat. More details inside,

I just saw this little video from Norco and Ryan Leech and wanted to share it. In the video Ryan talks about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and how something as "little" as using your bike to do tasks like running around will help make you healthier. As someone who does a short daily commute, I have noticed that it makes a lot of things in my world easier and I feel better for doing it.

With this new site I’ll be making my official entrance into the blogosphere, and I have to admit, I’m excited. I will strive to keep my posts about what I perceive to be things that matter in this world…all said with a certain cycling slant of course.

With my recent foray in to speaking, particularly with my Trials of Life school presentation, I am often referred to as a motivational speaker. The word motivate in this context has never really felt good to me; let me try to articulate the reasons why.

During the last week or two of December and first few weeks of January, we are hit with advertisements showing fit, sexy women working out, and dudes with eight packs and big smiles. The prime purpose of those images is to motivate you to get in shape as a new years resolution. Many people get off with great gusto, sign up to the gym for a year, and proceed to make an honest effort to get that body they have always dreamt of. The overindulgence that for some reason is now tied with Christmas certainly helps create the guilt necessary to fuel the fitness club membership. My wife who worked as a fitness instructor at one of these gyms can attest to this failsafe process.

After a year of chatting with pro photographer Haruki Noguchi (Harookz), we finally managed to get out for a shoot. We decided to go back to my chain line from Crux at night because Harookz had some great ideas for lighting.

Many of us are now settling in to the new year, back to school, back to work, back to routine, and for me, back to riding!! For one month I didn’t ride trials; snuck in a few mountain bike rides, but no trials! I’m just getting in to the groove again as I have a demo coming up next week, and so kicks off my 2008 season!!

Today’s children are our future generation; with all the pressures placed upon students, it has become difficult for them to follow their heart and choose the path that feels right to them. With all the challenges today’s world is facing, it is more important than ever that our children have a clear vision for their future. With help from The Co-operators, I was able to use my unique and fortunate position as a professional mountain biker to relate to these children.

My visit to Peterborough Ontario was such an amazing experience. I met up with the the Cops for Cancer, Pedal for Hope crew, they were my hosts for the first few days of the visit. The police officers raised $140,000 for cancer research on their 3 week tour, where they visited 50 schools by bike.

Day 8 of my tour has just come to an end, and it ends in Regina. So far I have presented to 8 schools, and performed at 2 bike shops. So I’m in my truck's bed ready for bed, canopy over head. I’m in my sleeping bag, about ready to call it a day, I guess I could call it day three of my Trials of Life Canadian tour. Day 1, I drove most of the way across BC to Cranbrook, spent the night, and then performed at a local middle school; grabbed lunch with Scott from Gerick Sports before driving to Lethbridge.
