iXS Releases New Trigger X Helmet

PRESS RELEASE: iXS

NO COMPROMISES ON VENTILATION AND PROTECTION

The Trigger X was developed for all riders who want more protection from their open-face helmet without having to go straight for a full-face. The Trigger X offers comprehensive head protection, similar to a full-face helmet, but without the chin guard.

The new Trigger X, which is standardized according to EN1078:2012+A1 (Europe) & CPSC (USA), is pulled deep into the back of the head. Its slap guards, which are firmly attached to the helmet structure through an in-mold process, protect the ear area without restricting hearing for wind and/or riding noise.

Speaking of the Slap Guards, they have a slight flex and are pre-shaped so that the Trigger X sits close to the head and does not look unnecessarily bulky. This gives the helmet a slim silhouette. Nevertheless, the helmet is very easy to put on.

To keep your head cool, the new Trigger X has a sophisticated architecture of external and internal ventilation channels. And that big grin? It’s always visible thanks to the open helmet construction in the field of view. Speaking of visibility: the visor is adjustable and, above the lower "default" position, also works explicitly with goggles pushed up. Their strap is prevented from slipping by a rubber pad on the back of the helmet.

bigquotesThanks to the Slap Guards, which are in-molded to the helmet shell, the Trigger X offers an extra portion of protection for your head.

The question of whether to go with a half-shell or full-face helmet often depends on the type of going uphill: for lift or shuttle accessed riding, a full-face helmet is typically used. It provides complete head protection, but is heavier and generally less ventilated. Those who pedal their way up to the trailhead often opt for a much lighter and more ventilated half-shell helmet. However, it's a fact that everyone always pushes to their individual limits on the descents. The risk of crashing is always part of the game, especially on well-known, frequently ridden home trails. Or when pushed while riding in a group of friends.

 Their last trigger AM helmet was the most comfortable helmet I've ever had. The padding inside though only lasted a couple of months after light (weekend) use before it tore and getting a replacement set was impossible. Enough of a bad experience to stop me buying another one of their helmets.

 I dig my Trigger FF and do need a new half lid, but the price of this is ridiculous. Pass.

 You sound triggered.

 @nozes: super triggered

 They already make a half lid and this is not it. This is a minus-3/4 lid. All the sweaty minuses of FF padding around your ears, plus all the minuses of no chinbar. Adds up to a package only logic-impaired fashion victims would pay for.

 @powturn: you sound triggered. Haha

 @powturn: Precisely why I'm holding out for their range of 3/8 and 7/8 coverage helmets.

 My trigger FF lost loads of the Matt lacquer after just one week in the alps. Lovely light helmet though, was pretty gutted

 Trying to figure out what the matte lacquer is and where it was lost? I have the olive Trigger FF MIPS that's been through a wreck that has the visor torn up so had to replace it. The inner foam is still black and the outer shell is still olive. Where was the matte lacquer lost on your helmet?

The foam on the inside of the chin bar is pretty beat from using it as a hanger on the handlebars during long climbs which is disappointing but that's it.

 @FaahkEet: around the edges of the helmet and chin bar. It peeled off leaving shiny orange patches.

 @FaahkEet: it is a thin, rubberized layer of matte clearcoat over the paint. It flakes off after even minor scrapes or abrasion. You can scratch it off with a fingernail about as easy as scratching latex ink off lottery ticket numbers. People at IXS put *zero* thought or testing into this choice of finish. My flaky-matte-finished orange Trigger FF breathes and fits great, but I won’t reward shoddy craftsmanship like this with another purchase.

 Me three on the buzz-killing, self-peeling matte finish. Concept & execution of taking a shiny plastic shell and slapping a thin, fragile layer of matte varnish over the top could only have come from the mind of someone who has never worn a helmet. Even roadies set helmets down on tables while drinking coffee!

 @notphaedrus: Interesting. Must be certain colors that have that. My olive and a graphite one don't seem to have that issue. The plastic shell itself is peeling away from the foam in the upper chin bar though.

 @powturn: I peeled of stickers straight from the box. It took the matte coat of. Shame on comfortable, light and well ventilated helmet. Also had a Trail helmet that had an issue with the pads. The mesh came off the pads and just dangles there. It doesn't take more than a month. I got replacement pads but same thing happened again. Really crappy. I'll probably get a Poc next time if they are still in business, tried one and it felt awsome. The price is double. But hopefully solid quality.

 @Hakkapelitta: recently bought a $100 Lazer Coyote to replace my Spec. Ambush (discontinued replacement pads). So far fit & ventilation have been every bit as good at less than half the price. Have also been pleasantly surprised that Coyote pads do an even better job of hitting that goldilocks balance between comfort, sweat retention, & keeping sweat out of eyes.

 I dig many products of IXS! But another Swiss brand who rips off Swiss Customers with higher prices than in all other countries....looking also at you SCOR.

 I’d bet this is an import tariff issue between Swiss and Taiwan.

 Alpina Rootage Evo costs half of insane 240€. What's 2x better on this one?

flag SpecSRAM (Mar 26, 2024 at 12:10) (Below Threshold)
 Alpina Rootage Evo doesn't have nearly as good protective qualities compared to the Trigger X (no MIPS, etc). The helmet pads and overall adjustability and fit are also nowhere close to the quality of the Trigger X or, for that matter, the Fox Dropframe.

 @SpecSRAM: I test fit Fox Dropframe and it was one terrible creaking piece. It was narrow and felt plastic as much as any other helmet.
  • 4 0
 @fluider: the Fox drop frame was the worse fitting helmet I’ve ever tried on
