Leatt's New Shoes & More - Eurobike 2022

by Ed Spratt
With the 2022 Eurobike show now in full swing, Leatt filled its booth with plenty of new products for 2023 with brand new winter riding gear and a sneak peek at some signature shoes coming next year.

Hydradri bad weather range

Next up is the relaunch of Leatt's previous All Mountain gear. The new range sees a focus placed on foul weather riding equipment and is now called Hydradri. The Hydradri range features monosuits, jackets and pants and uses a new fabric claimed to allow you to keep riding no matter the weather. Leatt has developed the fabric, which comes in three different levels of weatherproofing ability.

The main product being shown off in the lineup is the new monosuit that uses a magnetic hood. The hood features multiple magnets allowing it to be easily secured when you are not using it, and then with one of the extra magnets supplied with the suit you can get it to attach to your helmet for added security. The suit also uses collar poppers allowing two positions to either have it all the way up or folded over for a better fit with full-face helmets.

Alongside the top of the range 5.0 suits Leatt also has some lower-level models that bring over some of the technology from the top of the range including the magnetic hood but for a lower price. There are also kid's versions of the lower-level suits as well.

New Pro rubber compound for shoes

Another big change in Leatt's products for 2022 is its shoes. Leatt will be keeping the five different shoe models after hearing good feedback from customers, but now there will be two choices for soles. The previous Wafflegrip and Ridegrip were found to be really durable but didn't offer the best levels of grip. So for 2023 Leatt has taken on the feedback and made a new sole that is softer and slightly less durable, but should provide greater levels of grip. These soles will be sold with the RideGripPro and WaffleGripPro names.

While there weren't many details on this Leatt also had a little look at an upcoming collaboration with Tomas Lemoine for a special pair of its 2.0 shoes coming in 2023.

Updated goggles

Finally, Leatt has updated its goggles to have more of an MTB focus. Previous a lot of its goggles have been designed more for motorbikes, but now they have made some changes to make them better for cycling. One of the biggest changes is adding more ventilation to allow for better airflow. Also, the goggles use a three-layer lamination technique to create one lens.

At first glance I thought those shoes were proper reflective silver disco slippers. So disappointed when I looked properly.

Times like these I wish I lived in a place that I ever needed a jacket .
The rest of the time, I don’t . Tsk.

I thought they were something from a crime scene under a black light.

If only LA Lights and Reebok pumps teamed up to make a shoe to compete with the idea of a reflective silver disco shoe

@scary1: we are the lucky ones that get to ride in shorts and short sleeves.

I'm confused what the shoes even look like. The helmet on the other hand, if it's DH certified, and fairly lightweight, I'm all about it. Looks amazing

New leatt cover all's for when you have to paint the kitchen at 0900 but bikes with the crew at 1200

Maybe that is how they came up with shoe design?

Just bought my first pair of non-fiveten shoes with a set of Leatts. Definitely let down by the grip level as the rest of the shoe is really well made and fits great. The rubber is like a hockey puck and gets ever slipperier when wet. I’ve never slipped more pedals in my life than I do with the new shoes and they make me double think my line choices like I never had to with the tried and true free rider pros. Disappointing because I was looking for a alternative to replacing fivetens every season but now I will have to buy a second set of shoes this year.

Get some ride concepts they are awesome I haven’t had any issues with mine

@cyberoptixs: Tried the RCs with the grippiest rubber they offer, whatever the burly ‘enduro’ one is. The fit and feel is excellent but the rubber is just not a patch on 5tens. Really wanted to like, even got it resoled by some climbing shoe guy after a few rides. But sadly it’s still nowhere near the grip of stealth rubber Frown

I also found them quite uncomfortable to walk in for a prolonged time as they're so stiff they make my feet sore after an hour or so.

Ride Concepts are definitely the way to go dude! Different grip levels and amazing fit. So good!!
  • 5 0
 @kmoter: I mean that’s expected as it’s a cycling shoe not a walking shoe.
  • 4 0
You get a whole season out of 5tens?!?!
  • 1 1
@Worley1: I have 3.0's which are flat pedal shoes so one would assume that you should be much comfier in them than in XC shoes. In my experience Five Tens are really comfy to walk in but they make little sense to use as regular shoes given how soft the soles are.

Specialized 2FO Roosts. Equivalent grip to 5-10s, sliiiiiiiiiiightly wider toebox, I'm sure they'll wear out just as fast as I think that's just the price of tacky rubber.

@naptime: What do you guys do to your shoes? My wife and sone both are still riding pairs of 510's that are several years old.
  • 3 0
@naptime: I have a pair of 5.10 Canvas Freeriders that are still holding out 3 seasons strong!
Regular non canvas pair I picked up same time started to fall apart after 2 weeks.
Insane the difference in quality.

My first pair of freeriders, the originals with the little licence plate on the back, paid like £60 an got a couple years out of them. Next pair post addidas buy/sell out... £80, few months an the insides torn as F, mid soles where blown to hell.......
  • 1 0
@thatguy404: you apparently never got your canvas freeriders wet......one rainy night in Cleveland turned my Freeriders into shrunken stinky potato chips....(currently on Freerider Pro blues)
  • 2 0
@cyberoptixs: ride concepts is good for people with only narrow feet. didn't work for me (510 freerider pros are the narrowest 510 I use).
  • 1 0
@jokermtb: well I have size 13 feet that are pretty wide and their shoes fit me perfect
  • 1 0
@jokermtb: I live in Wales bud, they are always wet!
  • 1 0
@jokermtb: Ride Concepts has two fits/lasts: high-volume and low-volume. The low volume models (Hellion Elite and others) fit narrow feet great, but there are more options in the high-volume last. So 100% NOT only for narrow feet. Try the high-volume models.
  • 1 0
@brookebsummers: only the TNT and Powerline are high volume.....might have to look into those when the time comes....

I have the 3.0 shoe with a deep pin One Up pedal, The grip is great, they shoes have been ridden two years and are still useable. My 5 10 shoes died in 3 months. My Ride Concept Vice shoes lacked protection and the inside of the heal feel apart fast.

Guessing that making mountain bike goggles more specific to mountain biking translates to making lenses $40 instead of the $10 for motocross lenses?
  • 2 0
Dirtbikes don't don't have the same upper crust appeal mountain biking seems to have somehow garnered despite its beginnings. Which means we all get fecked paying the social status premium that companies seem to be getting away with. Also in case anyone isn't aware... "razor thin margins"! I mean it's amazing anyone can even afford to make MTB stuff. They basically have to give it away!

@lostlunchbox: This. What you said a million times over. People think I'm hating on e-bikes and gold AXS and shit but I'm really just bummed on the crowd they draw to this sport. Mountain bikes are starting to become a "flex" for rich idiots. Mountain-bike-specific anything is always more than the motocross counterpart, and the innovation/R&D in this sport is so lackluster. Mountain bike/component makers would rather make some flashy $15k electro-mechanical monstrosity than offer us utilitarian solutions like gearboxes and suspension that needs less servicing.

 perfect helmet, i want it
  • 2 0
Does the helmet have on the fly/toolless chin bar removal? It looks like the chin bar or the ear flaps require a screwdriver. Perhaps better suited for those who spend some days in the park and other days pedaling than for those who want to stay cooler on technical climbs and safer on gnarly descents.
  • 2 0
yeah, I'd like more info on the helmet too, I have an older convertible dbx3 and need to upgrade. I like the ease of use of the old model, but hate the fact the clips often break and have to be warrantied (had 3 left hand clips warrantied so far).

Can it be run without ear flaps? It says it can, but there's no photo of that set up, I'd love to know what it looks like. Looks like there's 2 chin bar lengths too, or is that an optical illusion?
  • 1 0
Doesn’t look like you can swap between half shell and “dropframe” on the fly looks to be 2 different pieces

 Looks neatt. Quite a featt.

I need some Leatt-Bernard Kerr merch asap or I'm going to be Sorbo levels of disappointed.
  • 1 0
those neon accent geometric designs on their kit is pretty cool...I'd like to have that. Are you listening Leatt?

I actually like the old leatt rubber in the dry, but cold and wet it certainly changed to suck. Still wear them, but they're the only MTB shoes I have that give me arch pain if even remotely snug at the laces. Also something in the upper heal breaks down into little chunks of plastic stuck behind the fabric that you can feel when you're putting them on but luckily you can't feel when you're wearing them. The arch issue is a deal breaker though given I've never come across as before.

Nice fartbag? If it is nasty enough to need something like this I'll just stay in, thanks.

Remember, there are places in the world where Sunny days are the exception. If don't ride in shit weather but live in Scotland, you'll get out 2 hours per year.
  • 3 0
@fullendurbro: I get it, but I hate wet cold. Even with this onesie you are still getting precip on the face, down the neckhole, hands/feet. Gross. Also clammy at high output. I understand that I am a spoiled American living in the southwest and I accept that. If I lived in Scotland or similar I might not be into this sport so much.

"folded over for a beer fit with full-face helmets" - middle age mountain bikers rejoice. Leatt's monosuit can adapt to your IPA-expanded midsection.

Never before have I been so offended by something I one hundred percent agree with!

@lukesky: I second that.. spot on

hey! I earned! my 12-pack abs!!!!
  • 3 1
I don't understand the naming scheme for the helmet, the last one they released was the 4.0 and they already have an old 3.0 but now they re-release a 3.0 huh?
  • 3 0
They use the wording for all product lines since ages:
1.0 cheapest/ lowest price points,
2.0 bit more expensive,

6.0 top of the line & carbon for helmets & braces.
  • 1 0
The shoes look like Freerider Pros. If they're midsoles are as stiff and outsoles as sticky, I'll call that a W. Amazing how many years it's taken for companies other than 5.10 to make flat shoes that don't suck.

I love Leatt gloves...and those shoes look like they might have a bit of ventilation for my overheated toes

Taking cues from Top Gun - look at that cool flight jacket!

I like this "suit" idea. Kinda what MotoGP has. They have knee / elbow protection integrated into pants / jacket or whole suit.

I want to know more about that lovely 3/4 shell helmet! Looks great!

That suit reminds me of cold war era atombordel

Probably just a tad more pricey Wink
