Online Deals - March, 2023

 My brother grabbed one a few weeks ago, its an awesome deal. The only reason I didn't snatch a frame is the 650b rear.

 their cyber Monday deal on those was crazy. This one still pretty killer. Definitely one of the better bang for the buck deals out there.

 Speaking of deals. watch out for those Nova Scotia buysell frames. All different users are new this year, some even this month and posting some "deals" on frames. Surely pinkbike needs to investigate

 @mininhi: that's so strange, I had to take a look for myself. There is a few canadian sellers in the most random spots that popped up selling all these new frames. Looks suspicious!

 Agreed. However, there is a disproportionately high number of Status' for sale on FB marketplace, at least in my region. Then again they're all seemingly being sold by kids in the 14-17 year age range. Probably need the money for a dirt bike or a used V6 mustang.

 @RonSauce: This. They absolutely need to make the Status a 29er. I know at least like 10 people who would buy one if it was a 29er.

 @zmums: You probably didn't love the Status with a 29" rear wheel because the frame geometry is very mullet-specific as it is. A 29er rear wheel will overly stretch out the reach and rear center and raise the BB sky high. Also the largest 29" rear tire that would fit into the frame as is without rubbing, is apparently be 2.3" wide with low tread.

They should really just make a proper 29er Status.

 @Muscovir: I didn’t like the BB height. Everything else was fine. STA was much better actually and HTA was only up to around 63.5 since I had other shenanigans going on that made it feel weird - ie very overforked.

And I did clear a 2.4 big Betty just for anyone who wants to try this. You just might not like the high BB, but it’s pretty inline with 29er just a few years ago.

Cmon, people asked value driven bikes - S delivered them. they do 29 version as a SJ alu for couple hundreds more.

I’ve had several and convinced lots of people to buy them, just saying if people want to put a 29er in back you can butthe BB is kinda high. I didn’t love that configuration

 You know... Seth did a review of it on his channel, it's only like 500g lighter than the Trek strider I have for my kid. I paid... $40 for the Trek.

 @BikesBoatsNJeeps: Shoot.... I have a strider pro.... I'll give it to anyone that needs one for their kid. Those things are the best thing that's happened to the bike industry in a long long time.

 @k2theg: No headset routing, still people are complaining. The lack of footrests makes it hard for pumptrack riding or on the skinnies. I understand footrests might get in the way when a kid only uses these for walking but one should at least have the option to add them (without drilling or using duct tape).

Are these tires even inflatable? I see no valve.

 @vinay: I used the tires like a governor when my kid first started using her strider, just air down and the slower they go.

 @EnsBen: You should probably keep a couple shocks on hand anyways, the yoke-driven Spesh rear ends are known for tearing up shocks.

 @Glory831Guy: yeah I've heard, was hoping since it's a symmetrical frame (vs the stumpy) it would be a little less prone to that. all good so far!

 @EnsBen: Same here, I have a bike with a trunnion mounted shock and it has been all good so far.

I think the type of riding makes a big difference too. I never shuttle or ride bike parks, so the shock shouldn't have to work TOO hard.

 @jnroyal: yip. And the float C is actually a pretty baller budget shock. I can’t think of anything that does better for the $$

 @Glory831Guy: I don't think it's the same setup as those old shocks. This has a bolt on each side of the shock. I'm pretty hose old ones were mounted to the yoke differently.

 @LBMTB: I've heard that too, but other people say it's the flex of the yoke, not the mount. Anecdotally, I have still been reading about a lot of shock failures on newer frames.

Specialized Enduro EVO - Several Ohlins TTX22M's, mostly seal head failures, one snapped shaft. Surprising considering the damper shaft thickness on them (Yoke driven clevis)

Specialized Demo 8 Sworks (201 - Again, TTX22M's, only one failure, the shock actually un-threaded from itself! I snapped 3 of those frames lol, so shocks weren't all my problems, The rose joints (bearing eyelet) popped out constantly. I ended up going back to standard bushing/spacer arrangement with Specialized approval.

Stumpy Evo (2019) this is where it all went bad. Again Yoke driven clevis.
- 2 Fox DPX2's
- 3 Cane Creek IL coils. CC were fantastic, they really worked WITH me and wanted to resolve the issue. In the end they gave me a DB Air CS for my troubles, which was trouble free. With lots of back and forward to their engineers they ended up developing the "yoke approved" IL coil which was great news for all I thought, hats off to Cane Creek

I've also had Trunnion mounted shock bikes that killed them fast.

For forks, had very good luck. I converted one Fox 36 to coil with the vorsprung kit, you could service that once a decade with the amount of oil it holds!

Take note, I'm not fast, rather a intermediate rider at around 95kg (210lb?) Shit happens, but seems it happens to me a lot."

 They’re awesome on a bike like the epic evo but aren’t beefy enough imo for a bike like the stumpy evo. I stuck with the butcher eliminator combo on my stumpy evo

 Noticed specialized and yeti have discounts on their complete bikes and frames in the US but not in Canada. Spec also not doing direct to consumer or deliver to bike shops anymore either. Gotta find a dealer and ask about their stock levels.

 Business as usual for Canada, isn't it?
