 @Pinkbike

Hey guys. We need to talk and it's overdue.

The forums and the buy/sell section are in a woeful state. We're seeing dozens of reported scammers a day at this point, tons of spam posts, and it seems the mod team is either not equipped, or is hopelessly understaffed. The bug report section has had reports of thread issues for months now, some of these issues are actually going back over a decade. There is a genuine scamming apocalypse going on within your website. Front page still regularly gets political and covid related spam. WE NEED MODS.

When are we going to see your staff and admin take this seriously? It's honestly so disappointing that a website of this size being so massively understaffed and so massively ignored. We deserve better. Please get more forum mods, please get more mods in general. Please take our experience seriously, we are your customers after all.
  • 17 1
Second this. And I would be happy to be a mod.
  • 15 0
Didn't realize it was so fulla scammers... have only had good luck there.

I heard the podcast on the update / upgrade and the guy def'ly know his shit but - damn, there are more SOLD ads (really - who f*cking cares, take those down) and ads that no one has updated in months or even years. Why are we cursed with looking at these? Even effing Craiglist, the dumpster fire of everything, times yr ads out. PB can't? BAH

Don't get me started on the mobile interface.

@powderhoundbrr: The latest revamp is better. But still some room for improvement
  • 7 0
Top of the pyramid is too busy taking money Outside, don't expect much to be put back in.
  • 17 4
Agreed on the politics/covid. Whether you're team blue or red, people come here to get away from all that bs. Leave the snarky comments for twitter and keep it mtb related here.
  • 4 1
Agreed but on the other hand Pinkbike buy/sell is free for everybody.... who's going to pay for mods?
  • 5 3
@DylanH93: Life is political so the discussions are gonna happen regardless. This commenter is probably referring to the unprovoked COVID/Trump/RedvsBlue comments that happen somewhat regularly.
  • 9 0
@corposello: that's what twitter is for, have all the arguments you want to your hearts content. An mtb website is a strange, and very annoying place to do that. The bickering is everywhere else already, an escape where we can just focus on a hobby is much appreciated. I hope mods get better about deleting that stuff.
  • 4 2
@sherbet Yah, I agree there need to be more mods and the current mods could defiantly be firmer in enforcing PB policies. There are a number of forum posts and threads that are extremely toxic, racist, and misogynistic, which I have tried to report to mods but they just tell me it doesn't matter since the users who are posting the crap are old longtime PB users, and that somehow gives them immunity to act like jerks?!?
  • 4 0
I feel like there is enough of a competent user base here that we could get enough people to volunteer to be mods. Or even just discounts at shops or something. I'd be a mod here in return for a discount at World Wide Cyclery for sure. And I have a BMX background
  • 2 0
100% Other MTB sites shut threads down fast when it gets weird. A few years ago PB shut down comments entirely and did a clean sweep. Maybe it time to get the broom out again . . . (Happy to mod also because this should be light hearted, but still a positive place we all enjoy.)
  • 3 0
 Well said @sherbet
  • 2 5
Well, that all costs money. And currently Outside is not asking anyone to pay a members fee. If everyone chipped in a few bucks a year, maybe they could allocate resources to improve the UI. I haven't had any bad luck with scammers, just use common sense.
  • 12 0
Historically, forum mods have not been a paid position. When I as a moderator for Pinkbike I didn't get paid, but PB did occasionally send me a shirt or a calendar, and I had a plus account for it. It was passion based work, and as reddit shows, it isn't difficult to get free mods in a passion based forum as people genuinely want to see the community do better. I'm beyond the point in my life where I'd want to moderate for free, but I absolutely promise you there's thousands of candidates that would apply if the option were posted. Pinkbike. I love you. You are my abusive partner and I can't get enough. Please work with us here, we want what you want.
  • 4 5
"The forums and the buy/sell section are in a woeful state" ... Really- are you and me reading the same website?!
  • 3 0
Had a person reply to a bike comment with a story of him raping my wife and satisfying her. A bunch of inappropriate crap needs to get weeded out for sure.
  • 1 0
@NWintheUSA: I had someone reply to comment trying to justify the holocaust! WTAF. Mod removed the user thankfully, but clearly the user thought they could get away with it.
  • 5 0
I dislike how it shows me sold bikes in the buy/sell. Why do I need to see a bike that has already sold? You have no idea what the bike actually sold for so it does not provide anymore data.
  • 1 2
@DylanH93: ...except that people have been arguing, sniping and bitching here literally since comments began and I'm sure you've seen that. Agreed and I've been guilty of this, have reeled it in the past many years but face it - its kinda funny, you don't have to reply and you can skip over anything you dislike and focus on good citizenship otherwise. When its obviously some violent, sexist, racist crap: delete but otherwise, it kinda makes the site authentic & unique.

 "Pinkbike get’s a little kickback"

The higher ups forgot to proofread this. Just "gets", not "get is" or "get has" or whatever that contraction is supposed to be contracting.
  • 14 2
Is it just me or has the blatant commercialization accelerated around here?
  • 3 2

Wonder is eventually Pinkbike will become Pink-Ebike?
  • 36 0
 They won't, I pink-E-swear.
  • 2 0
 Pinke-bike
  • 1 0
Don’t give them any ideas. Or do. I like the websites of a certain German publisher—they have a website dedicated to regular bikes and one dedicated to ebikes.
  • 1 2
@gnarlysipes: Separate website would be great. I do think the filter is working, I haven't seen ebike content in a while. It's similar to skiing and snowboarding. Sure, we're going down the same hills, even when trails say no ebikes, but it's two different sports.
  • 1 1
@gnarlysipes: I opened their latest issue and it appears they've put moped reviews in their main mag. Once I'd seen that and the article about camper vans I just killed the app...

I was always wondering whether these hip packs could be extra painful in certain crashes but with the one in the picture, I'm pretty sure.
  • 1 3
The basket is to attach to your handlebars, duh.
  • 1 0
@everythingsucks: I thought that was the "heavy duty anchor" part of the pack. You may manage to steer your 800mm bars between those trees, but the hip pack will keep you from going any further. It goes both ways. Should anyone try to overtake you...
  • 1 0
For those long rides where I want to bring my basket just in case, I always struggle with the best way to attach it to my body. This new hip pack looks perfect for my needs!
  • 9 0
That GT Sensor is an amazing deal. Honestly a perfect bike for anyone getting into the sport.
  • 2 0
been riding the Comp version since 2019....love it. the frame, shifter, and cranks are pretty much the only thing original, as it's a great platform to customize. awesome bike.
  • 2 0
@jokermtb: Nothing like getting an awesome frame with more "beginner" components and slowly customizing it to your liking. I think that's more fun than getting something top of the line to begin with. The adventure of upgrading is great.
  • 8 0
What's going on over at specialized? I'm not complaining about the lower prices, but are they ok?
  • 7 0
Sale prices not available in Canada so must be overstocking issues at retailers in the states.
  • 4 0
I think they over stocked their 2022 models and are trying to get rid of them. They have some really good deals on their website right now. Carbon Stumpjumber EVO for 3,700.
  • 3 0
Same as everywhere in the industry - demand is down (a bit), and supply is up (quite a lot). Fewer people buying because of economic slowdown/uncertainty/interest rates going up/Covid bike boom tapering off. More stuff available as the backlogged orders from the bike boom times are getting fulfilled. If you look at the prices of the big brands' on sale stuff, it's back to where pricing was pre-supply crunch. Funny that...
  • 2 0
 Two things;

Bullwhip effect on supply chain means temporary over supply, excess inventory and compromised cash position.
Macroeconomics freaking everyone out means less demand, worsens cash position.

That right there can turn a company upside down, so they are getting head of it.
  • 2 0
@noplacelikeloam: this. I read somewhere that during the pandemic, a lot of the suppliers wouldn't take smaller orders. This forced companies to buy a lot of product, which then took 6-24 months to deliver. Some companies ended up with way more product than they need now that things have slowed down. Apparently not Trek though, they're offering 10% off while Specialized and Santa Cruz are 25-30% off on a lot of their bikes.
  • 2 0
They over charge so they still make money on 30 % just not the lbs
  • 2 0
@rob748: So Trek doesn't overcharge? My friend just bought a Spec from an independent lbs and Specialized gave shop rebates so the lbs could match their current sale price. I'm sure that impacts the lbs margin somewhat, but I've always been told hardgoods have a low margin anyways.
  • 2 0
Most, if not all the manufacturers seem to be in the same boat. They worked like devils to build inventory and shops ordered based on two years of severe product shortages, just in time for a possible recession. Specialized, Trek, Santa Cruz have/are running factory sales at 20% off or so. Same thing is happening in the moto world at the dealer level. I saw 2023 Gas Gas/KTMs on sale for 3k less than I paid for my '21 this week.

I'm concerned that we will lose a bunch more independent retailers that are stuck with aging inventory that isn't moving. The fact that a significant portion is 10k+ e-bikes isn't helping.
  • 1 0
@motts: Even when you can order smaller orders, not many companies have enough intelligence in their supply chain to inform a balanced system. Thats not a dig at them. Lets not forget in 2021, we had no clue how long it would go on for. We are now seeing the effects of some supply managers best guesses.
  • 2 0
@noplacelikeloam: Oh yeah, I wasn't criticizing anyone. Just adding some info on how it seems we got to this point. There have been a lot of unknowns these past few years, for all of us.
  • 4 0
Absolutely the best deal going for a trail/all-mtn/enduro rig is Pole's Evolink 1.4 10th Anniversary sale at $3141 plus shipping. You an add a Zed Ultimate for $255! Here's the spec you get... honestly insane and I've owned one of these bikes for 3 years and it rips up & down!

Sleeper of a bike, honestly such an amazing all Mtn/mini-enduro bike.
  • 2 1
Feels like these "sale" prices are what MSRP prices should be companies jacked the prices up during the shortage/pandemic, but looks like the supply/demand will fix that (invisible hand and all that) or companies will go under (which is unfortunate since there is such a lovely abundance of different brands). Similar situation happening with graphics cards and motherboards as well, I'm using my 3070 for the next 10 years, Nvidia can suck it.
  • 3 0
Idk if I would call wearing a full metal basket on my hip "sleek," TPC, but, its a deal, so I guess I'll give it a shot.

They should throw some of the best PB buy/sell deals on here

$1700 GT Sensor "for your favorite NICA racer?" I don't know where you live but all the NICA children at my local trails ride S-Works...
  • 1 0
NICA should have a claiming rule.

Last I checked, Rocky Mountain marked down a lot of their bikes to more normal pricing. If I needed a new light trail bike, I'd be looking at that element c50, 28lbs for just under 4k with good not great components.
  • 3 0
Definitely NOT a "Hip Pack" and if it is then dayum.
  • 2 0
They should really put that the wheel set is only 27.5 that’s on sale. Since it’s not 29 or mullet it has to be on sale
