 Yeah, but the dimensions should be more the properties than the supposed purpose. Or a combination thereof as hardpack vs mud/loose is a good one. But other than that you may like to have a dimension of protection level, rolling resistance, weight (for a certain rim size), sidewall stability... Of course you can't visualize all these dimensions at once so you'd need several charts. Or a digital tool like CES (tool selection method by Mike Ashby) to choose the two dimensions you want to see. Obviously, for a good comparison between brands you'd have to quantify all those properties, which is near impossible to realize. For instance you can choose a standard tire pressure but what if different tires work best at different pressures? But yeah I'd agree that such a visualization is a great tool to have to make a shortlist of tires that you might fit your purpose.

 @vinay: Good point, a simple two dimensional chart just won't work for the dizzying array of Maxxis tires.

We need two additional visualization levels:
3-D chart that adds tire width (requires VR headset to understand)
4-D chart that adds type of casing on top of that (requires theoretical physics PhD to understand)

 @jmd07aa: I'm talking about this kind of software, allowing you make 2D graphs of two parameters and they put the stuff in the right spot. If for instance you're looking for the highest stiffness (or technically, Youngs modulus) and the lowest density (for instance because you want to make a low weight product subject to bending), you make such a chart and consider the materials in the corner of the chart that suits you best. Then with that subset, you check them against other properties you think are important (like cost, corrosion resistance etc). As you probably gather from now, this is mostly a material selection method. It is actually based on a book/method by Michael Ashby called "Material Selection for Mechanical Design". Obviously this works for parameters that can be quantified. But he also has a book "Material and Design" together with Kara Johnson where they also integrate parameters that are harder to quantify, though obviously that also means that you might not get these charts from the software. Of course you could always be inspired and make something alike in a spreadsheet and then generate graphs from any two colomns you choose. You decide on a scoring system for these different properties and go by that. Yet obviously, ideally you'd have a professional bike reviewer do that. Someone who actually rides a wide variety of stuff. Not sure who can be bothered though. Pinkbike started doing grouptests a while ago but this is next level. You'd need a more German approach. Maybe enduro-mtb.com/en could be the right people. They do huge grouptests and they like to make tables. Once you have the data, you can indeed feed it in the software. Possibly also in CES as I think you can define your own parameters. Elephant in the room is, I don't think there is a free version. There seems to be a trial for their edupack but of course you don't want to build your own database for something that expires.

 XC tires are great, also if your pumptrack doesn't have asphalt. Should be available in 20" too. I had issues with my front wheel of my BMX washing out on my local gravel pumptrack. I tried a Maxxis DHF 20x2.4 but it kept firing gravel at my face and it was also a bit sluggish. Now using Schwalbe Smart Sam 20x2.35 (I think) and that's perfect. On such a track you need little to no puncture protection, just a bit of grip and still rolling smoothly.

 @BikesBoatsNJeeps: 1882 Tom Jeffery created the first pneumatic bike tire. From there John Dunlop to use inner tube with that tire system, thus creating the first usable pneumatic bike tire. At least this is what I was told when touring the Dunlop plant when i was in the automotive tire industry
