I understand why peeps are saying this is a "pro level" trail, but if you consider an XL park on a ski hill is accessible and ridden by the general public then why shouldn't this type of terrain exist for the dirt lovers? An awesome next level option I reckon. #geterdone
@CRAFTY-P: Another things is that in general a trail like this isn't really all that out of place in BC. Many trails make even this line look less challenging than other trails.
@dangahoesing: No doubt! The trail looks like it flows awesome after the first drop but man the 2 massive doubles after the drop...look really well built but they certainly would take some balls.
I bet though...if you had the sack to follow one of these 3 guys...match their speed...the trail would be fun as hell. Trying to dial it in solo though...think it would be scary...to say the least.
@jakecallcut: I see that guy show up after every rampage event to talk shit about semenuk and dog on slopestyle riders. He's f*cking annoying and spends way too much time on pinkbike comments.
This certainly appears to be a "pro" level run, which is excellent in many regards.
However I am not sure this is the type of run that will bring a sustainable mountain bike crowd (aka the people who pay for tickets and seasons passes) to the resort.
If only 2% of riders are skilled enough to ride this run, the other 98% will be riding elsewhere (unless it gets "dumbed-down" a bit)
A truly remarkable job building this trail, and hopefully the other trails are comparable in workmanship to appease the leftover 98% of riders.
Either way, its going to be an exciting summer at Big White.
This trail will attract lots of guys from far away and for the majority of people there will be lots of blue trails here in the future already are a few. This trail alone will make alot of the money I spend at silver star bot be spent at big white. But I think they are same company so it's a win for them just all the more reason to spend more time in the okanagan can't f*cking wait to ride this trail! (They do say they will dumb it down a bit) that long jump into the corner looks scary
you'd be surprised how many people want to grow into these kinds of trails. Little kids and old guys gopro'ing their first time over Crabapple like it's a huge milestone for their biking are all over pinkbike videos and youtube, people do want this stuff and it gives them something to shoot for. These kinds of trails are huge milestones for people, and depending on your group of buddies you ride with sometimes a rite of passage if you're growing into the group you're riding with. There's honestly a shortage of them overall, I don't think there's anyone who would not want to go to a resort because trails like this existed. I can't think of a single person at Stevens Pass who wouldn't want to take a crack at something like this if it existed. People love this shit, always will.
@anchoricex: so true trails like this are so hard to find but 5 years ago there were nearly none at bike parks. Now we got cgp with coastal cruise and flight deck and this and walk the line at ss is pretty Damn good. I love to see the progression not only in the pro level competition and movie world but the bike park trails that every one can ride. Trails like this are making more good riders. So frustrating when you wanna progress and all you have is jumps under 10 ft on your local trails. I hope trails like this pop up in every area!!!!
@anchoricex: And if they are built correctly by someone who properly understands biking they can be safe. Looks like it flows with no need to slam on the brakes, no sketchy 90 degree blind corners. No need to pedal for a jump. They look similar in size the whole way through so the trail is predictable. Big long wide landings are safer than landings a bike long and 1m wide.
Please give us more of these to work toward. There need to be trails that cater to all ablilities, it's frustrating going to a bike park and hitting every jump on the "black" trail first run through.
I hope they leave it in place...this stuff can be ridden by non-pro riders if they understand how to ride. Let it be ... don't dumb it down too much, it seems to flow logically without any weird hits. CGP has big hits too on their trails, but they also have other stuff that doesn't require the big airtime. It's a good mix and really, for those who ride a lot, it is what people are progressing towards.
Good work guys...
here's the problem... -Joey's keep the mountain funded by paying full price and bringing the family. -Experienced riders all know people that know people and rarely pay full price for anything related to bikes. -Joey's need a place to put their braking bumps. (which is everywhere) -Joey's get hurt a lot -trails like those in this video just sit idle in the states and the guys using it are not the ones that paid for a day lift pass. if they even paid for their pass / lift ticket at all. - So a resort is not going to loose money by having an advance trail sit around that could be turned into a PERFECTLY GOOD MONEY MAKING bump infested BLUE TRAIL!
A lot of resorts have to jump through hoops to get trails approved by the forest service b4 they can even break ground. So if you owned a resort and were paying rent, ins, salaries, etc... would you want street cred status for your resort (and be broke) or a resort that generated income by having a bunch of blue trails filled with braking bumps everywhere?
@anchoricex: agree completely, you need these sort of things for people to aim for, even if you never get there. Its being able to see what you maybe could do eventually, and its such a buzz when you actually see people riding trails such as this.
@Bobafett164: most bike parks dont even make money anyway. so might as well make them awesome! every bike park will always have more joey trails than pro trails. even big white
I agree with you 100%. As a 10 year season pass holder to Silver Star Mountain, and a pretty good rider ie I hit 99% of the stuff there, I don't think I would stand a chance on this run. having said that, what will most of the riders do on Big White with only 2 or 3 runs that are green or blue. I am also excited but will still be spending most of my time at Whistler and Silver Star...
@dangahoesing: Yeah I don't know what the skepticism is for, every bike park I've been to that has trails like these is always a smashing hit. CGP & Whistler are obviously the ones that come to mind that have the big stuff but I can't wrap my mind around all this "the joeys will ruin it!" I mean they haven't ruined it so far so I don't know where that comes from. Pretty sure everyone walking into one of these parks always signs a waiver anyways, I've had to sign waivers at every bike park I've rode at. I'm fairly certain A-Line at Whistler has bigger features then this run, I don't know what the fuss is about.
@Kerplunk: doesn't justify nerfing trails because there are those that don't have the logical aptitude to calculate whether or not something is within their skillset. I'm not gonna go and piss on xc trails because I suck at pedaling up hill and would probably have cardiac arrest trying getting to a trailhead
@anchoricex: I agree with your point in general but dude, A-Line is nowhere near the size of the jumps on The Joker. The wood step down at the start and the big step down to right hander look HUGE in this and they are gaps so severe consequences for casing. I think they will modify the trail to shorten some of the jumps or fill in some of the gaps but leave the general character of it. Would be kind of surprised if they left the entry ramp as big as well.
In response to the comments of this being a pro only trail. Yes it is, but if you seen my interview in previous footage on the Big White Bike Park I mentioned that we will build something suitable for all levels. We intend to build the ridership from the ground up. But we will never forget the core riders either. Come ride our park with me in summer 2017. I can't wait to host you all!
So I wonder how many riders could actually ride this. 2% quoted. And equally impressive was quaily of the trail. Hey guys...build 5 versions this trail, each increasing in difficulty by 20% until the 5th is this one. That 2% will exponential grow per season no doubt.
Better bikes always. Better trails, blessings and riches to the builders. And for riders, eternal bliss.
most bike parks in Canada have a progression of trails like that. In BC there is a very high percentage of riders who are able to ride this stuff. jumps like these are not that uncommon out there.
Lots of people on this site could ride that. I could ride that. Could I backflip the drop like Rheeder? No. lol, but I don't doubt that I'd be able to ride it. I have friends who primarily race and dont jump very often but they'd have no problem soaring through this. Trails like these, when designed well, help send you from the lip to the landing. It's always a "Oh that looked way scarier then it was, that was f*cking fun let's do it again" with these kinds of runs. Not saying everyone can but I think most people who are seasoned and comfortable on their bikes can hit this stuff. I actually think the woops would be the most challenging part. I think anyone who can ride A-line / dirt merchant, and especially anyone who can ride crabapple can get through this just fine. Just read another comment that says this shits getting downsized though, boooooo
to all you people acting like this is the only trail on the mountain saying this is a waste of money im going to tell you something. its alright to be a joey and not be able to ride every trail. there is enough blue trails you joeys can go skid down!! dont fight progression out sport needs this. don't ruin the fun for alot of people just because you lack the ability to send it!
Now THAT is a trail. Looks lovely - the big gaps and step downs look like they should be fairly easy to hit - but those whoop sections, I know 100% I'd cock those up and end up having a big crash.
How is Big White gonna decide who can ride this track, I guess back flip the first feature and you're good to go lol. Curious because 'Joey in the way' is a massive problem at Whistler, when you flow brakes are not an option... in your brain at that moment?
The road gap at the beginning should keep joeys off having no ride arounds. Esspecially with it being under the chair they will look at it from above and be like fuck that!
Would love to see bike parks make more natural trails with awesome flowy single track, ridge line riding and steep technical bits. This is just too much for anyone over 25 with a reason to live. Reminds me more of a downhill skatepark than mountain biking.
Okay, I have watched it six times now and I know beyond a doubt that I must do this. It is my destiny. I can hear it calling me over to the dark side....
Bit of flow lost on last 2 sections there if there's anything to be critical about...seems like it needed a hard left turn downhill(if thats down) after that righthand berm gap @5sec left.
Bas said that this trail was inspired by Supercross rhythm sections. And personally, I've wanted to have a supercross rhythm for bikes ever since I started biking. To me, when I started, I wanted to ride bikes cause I didn't have any motorcycle to ride motocross. Now here's my thing with this trail. It has one supercross rhythm. And that rhythm is un-f*cking-believable. It's amazing. Quads, on-offs. doubles, triples, wheel taps, everything. It's a master piece. But the rest of the trail isn't. At all. You can say that straight is supercross influenced. But the trail isn't. No big deal, doesn't matter in the least tbh, but I just wanted that out there. The trail isn't supercross. I feel that because this was going into a bike park, they couldn't turn into what it could've been. A couple of those straight's back to back linked by 90-180 degree bowl turns down a mountain? Wide so you can run 3 wide on alternate rhythms though the straight? FIRE. (What BMX supercross should've been but hey I've given up on BMX racing doing anything right anymore).

one of those internet trolls, migrated from the depths of youtube to terrorize us pinkbikers.

what to do, what to do...
They could just ride all the other trails on the hill. The hill isn't going to be 1 trail only.
Better bikes always. Better trails, blessings and riches to the builders. And for riders, eternal bliss.
I see global harmony coming with this.

2. If they made those all tables theyd be pretty safe but i think big case bars are a better choice. Safety + gaper prevention.
3. PuttIng big features in snow/bike parks creates an entertainment of sorts for new and novice riders. People like to see that shit
