 If you don't dig or if you don't donate in some way, shape, or form to your local trail organization, you are everything that's wrong with mtb. If you have the time, capacity, and know-how to dig, great. But if you don't dig, then it's incumbent on you to help those who do... Volunteer with your trail org, donate a few hundred bucks, make cookies for the trail crew. I don't really care, but do something! Also if you don't dig or donate decently to your trail org, but you're rolling around on a trick bike, you are a literal fucking clown.

 Who is down voting this?

While you come across a little extreme... everyone should at the very least be buying their local trail network's annual membership to support trail maintenance.

Some people have very busy jobs or family life or both and honestly can't do more than buy a membership. But I agree, you shouldn't be on your local trails if you're not supporting them in some way.

 @islandforlife:

100%

If you have the time and means to be a passionate mountain biker, you have the time and means to support your local trails and/or trail organization. There is literally no argument here.

But the number of jerkwads I see pounding umpteen laps per day on their $20,000 e-bikes that have literally never lifted a shovel, and at-most, have only purchased a $25 cycling club membership is astounding.

If you can throw down for a fancy bike and you have time to ride multiple times per week, you have the time / means to help out in some way on the trails

 @skimtb1: I always found the rule of thumb minimum is either a days pay or 8 hours of trail work per year. This is of course on top of buying a membership.

I'm hoping my arm injury heals up in the next couple of weeks or else I'm donating a days pay lol.

Edit - Not sure why you are being down voted as well. Guess there are people who view the obligation to give back as negative...
