Where has enduro come from and where is it going?

It seems like only yesterday we were duct-taping bananas to our frame, the EWS wasn't a UCI event and Martin Maes and Richie Rude were hot new talents on the scene. One man who's been there for most of it is Ireland's Dan Wolfe, not only as a racer but also running his own and team's setups.

We talk to Dan about the best of all time, doping, and why racing midweek might not be what the sport needs.

Featuring a rotating cast of the editorial team and other guests, the Pinkbike podcast is a weekly update on all the latest stories from around the world of mountain biking, as well as some frank discussion about tech, racing, and everything in between.

This is one of the best episodes I’ve heard. The format and content was really good.

I appreciate the new format, but with the reintroduction of news can you bring back the short 1 or 2 question QNA segment @henryquinney

Sure thing. Definitely a work in progress - thanks for the feedback.

@henryquinney: Also... What ever happened to comment gold? Loved that part (partly as a few were mine!)

Really enjoyed this one. So good to have Alicia back on deck too, she's great in these podcasts!

Great episode. I love the idea of one big day to qualify in for a televised “stage downhill” day. Lots of possibilities there. This would also allow them to cover/develop stories from day 1 to use and continue on the broadcast on Day 2. So when you get those “spirit of enduro” moments of Moir fixing his tire by stuffing grass into it, you can highlight that on broadcast day.

Also; not sure how to make the rights work, but it seems like a way to make it grassroots would be to get footage from the riders to use but somehow make that profitable for them. Basically do the opposite of what DHi is doing (we own your footage and you can’t use it) and say, you own your footage but we want to use it and will make it worth your while if we do.

I use double sided tape on my organic bananas so they look slick on the frame

Great episode, thanks for keeping it real. This was fairly heavy if you’re an enduro pro. I’m not sure there’s a future in the current format.

I thoroughly enjoyed this podcast. Great bit of history on the EDR and context.

EnDuRo. DownHill. CrossCountry. The odd one out here is XC.

How would you describe the shape of the letter “X”?
  • 3 1
 @JamesKROZ: intersecting lines

But "downhill" and "crosscountry" are compound words and a possible compound word, respectively. So it makes sense to grab the first letter of each constituent word to make an initialism. Whereas "enduro" is a single word and it's practically unheard of to create an initialism from the first letter of each syllable of a single word. I dare you to get "ARVAT" to catch on as a replacement for "AbbReViATion".

@barp: I see what you’re saying but X isn’t the first letter in ‘cross’.

@no-good-ideas: ... and yet you've missed my point entirely. It was all for naught[s and crosses].

 Merry Crossmas!!

@barp: I think someone beat you to "Abbr." but I"m offering Xross Country for your considreration and recompense.

Just thinking out loud. I'm feelin' wild after my afternoon nap.
