Only came here to see Van der Poel, left disappointed.
  • 31 0
sneaking a cut of that into the middle of FF would have been great, PB dropped the ball on that one
  • 3 1
 2:00 was a re-enactment.
  • 3 0
It was the first clip for about 10 seconds....then NBC's team of lawyers sent PB multiple copyright notices.
  • 4 0
@Snowytrail: They should've made it the last clip. Then they could've hidden it behind the PB logo.
  • 85 2
Everybody wants to know what was after that wall at 2:18
  • 82 0
 My guess is regret.
  • 19 0
The ambulance (10 min. later anway).
  • 3 0
His shoe made it on Pinkshoe #FridayFails
  • 11 0
 open dumpster?
  • 6 0
@2pi: cement basement floor, then ambo followed by medical bankruptcy--'but Mom, it was only eight stairs'
  • 58 2
Now that is what I call a pay wall....
  • 9 0
He landed next to an organ donation center.
  • 3 0
I was actually quite impressed how he "Stuck the landing", only to miss the run-out?
  • 3 0
Mum was there and gave him a slap!
  • 1 0
 @SATN-XC: open dumpster-fire?
  • 3 0
Looking at the width of it I think it's either the entrance to an underground parking lot or a loading dock either way it looks like a damn long way down.

There’s no way to know without a subscription.

That's why I came to the comments...

 Those were well-placed mattresses.
  • 14 0
Those kids dragged those mattresses from a far away alley but they knew what they were doing.
  • 3 0
#NothingReallyMattress but watch out for the bed bugs kids! Alley mattresses are not a good source of bedding materials.
  • 11 0
@suspended-flesh: Saved from the tree, but got a face full of syringes.

Don't actively watch Friday Fails and then complain that the fails were too harsh for your eyes. No one is making you watch them. People crash and get hurt sometimes, and if they film it then the footage may end up here. Stick to the 'gram if you want filtered content that gives you a heads up if someone gets mashed badly.

Is there a nuanced word or slang, related to or derived from Schadenfreude that mean you don't necessarily delight in the pain of others, but you're damn sure entertained by it?

If not, there should be.

  • 2 0
 Okay I won’t.
  • 5 1
Did Outside literally pay a bunch of people to kill themselves to prove themselves to us???

This week was intense!!!
  • 16 2
This week was bought to you by OTB's off drops, and 50-50 Cases.
  • 8 0
That was a particularly brutal episode. I like my body parts intact too much to be attempting some of those jumps that fast.
  • 4 0
 Not to mention that unskilled.
  • 8 0
 the lesson is:

19mph = bad case to OTB
19.1mph = massive overshoot, dead-sailor into the trees

I will never leave the ground again.
  • 1 0
@ByStickel: Talk about a fine line, well illustrated by this week's fails.
  • 7 0
WOW...right out of the gate with that intro clip...you got to work us up to that level of carnage.....some people are eating lunch around this time.
  • 2 1
No kidding. This week's Friday Fails was all killer and no filler.
  • 8 4
Holy crap! A couple really close calls for young riders in this video. That last one could have ended so much worse if he didn't avoid those trees. Head first! Lucky kid. No one wants to see that, even if he made it thru ok. Oof. Be careful out there kids. Not everyone is a pro and send it at speed. One head first trip into the trees or rocks can be the end of any riding on two wheels.
  • 7 0
The crash over the wall down on the Road.... oh noes
  • 6 0
Jesus, that was the most brutal FF yet. More faceplants than you can shake a bent front wheel at.
  • 12 0
There might be some Friday Funerals after this one.
  • 4 0
 More face plants than Treebeard.
  • 1 0
@iamamodel: this is my favourite comment ever
  • 5 0
love the editing @ 0:20 ..."well...everyone made it down the drops"...straight into a slow roll face plant off the drop @ 0:25. well done, well done
  • 3 0
Yes..... there has been the mandatory paywall comment already - however I'm conflicted between optimism and disappointment that nobody has likened the crash at 3:41 to users hitting a paywall.

perhaps the GIF just hasn't been finished yet.
  • 4 0
What about the guy at 2:17 going over the paywall?
  • 4 0
Broke my wrist really badly a couple days ago at the Kamloops Bike Ranch. I was really sad I didnt get it on camera, it was such a gnarly crash. www.pinkbike.com/photo/21039965 this is a picture of my wrist.
  • 4 0
...damn't, I knew I shouldn't have clicked on that. brutal... hopefully docs say it'll come out okay on the other end of recovery
  • 2 0
What's your ETA on riding again?
  • 2 0
@jubs17: sometime within 2 months hopefully. I was supposed to go whistler in a month for the first time, but now I wont be able to. Really sad about that, but ill try for next year.
  • 3 0
2:22, I enjoy a touch of the bike revenge. Also, possibly the best (or worst) timed PB logo exit on the final clip, that was a mean looking ragdoll that we couldn't fully engage in.
  • 1 0
agreed on the poor logo placement...but taking it was a small kid, its better that we didn't see it
  • 2 1
@SATN-XC: found the guy who doesn't follow @kidsgettinghurt
  • 2 0
@plyawn: So, that worked like a charm. As I'm now a decidedly typical end-user your simple instruction and cut-and-pastability are to be commended. Thanks for letting me continue to be an armchair IT person.

All that said, amazing speed scorpion to jogging finish by that kid.
  • 1 0
They really need to put up the logo near the end and then show one last stack, kind of like the opening.
  • 2 0
@plyawn: I don't know why you don't have a million upvotes, thank you for posting that!
  • 2 0
Do IT! Do IT!.....Was he talking to the biker or the kid in charge of putting up the mattress on the tree.... I almost didn' t watch today just from the intro clip....I got a concussion watching it. I guess they need to get all the evil ones out before the Outside lawyers put an end to brutal crash videos.
  • 6 0
 Fade to Tree. JFC...
  • 1 0
If you’re taking vid, you’re probably doing it to post somewhere.
One of the moments that led to the end of my Moto bike racing wasn’t a crash, it was a super close call- super sideways at 40mph on a single track in tight pine tree woods playing with friends.
No girls, no prize money, no video. Winners and losers was down to your word against whomever.
But if I had a buddy standing there with his phone out, maybe I would have injured out of the sport instead of walked away like i did. Or worse.
It’s a different mindset when you know the world may be watching.
  • 4 1
2:41 - get off the middle of the trail douche. Like he owns the place. If you’re stopped, and able to move, move to the side.
  • 4 0
seriously! was out on a ride last night and some a**hole laid his bike down in the middle of the trail at the bottom of a steep roller going into a creek (him and his buddies were inspecting the drop in from the opposite side ). Saw it in time and smashed my brakes before dropping in. He seemed so inconvenienced when I stayed at the top and barked at him to move his damn bike so I could drop in (he gave me a look like I was the a**hole)
  • 1 0
Who is that on the Jazz hands drop ? I saw that last weekend in action while riding the lift at Angel Fire . I was like yo some dude just did an unintentional front flip into the bush !
  • 2 2
These were some really hard hits this week. Almost certain some concussions and broken bones ensued. Very cringy. Entertainment factor was low, cringe factor was very high. I wish all a speedy recovery, so much pain in this FF.
  • 2 0
"Eeeee.....YESSS!!!" ...promptly into a cased jump ball buster and buddy laughing....this is comedy gold @ 1:55. Bring this man back for an encore
  • 2 0
You best believe I'll be taking him riding more, my dude is pure stoke and learning fast!
  • 2 0
2:02 is really gnarly. I hope the rider can still walk. I think it's a woman and her shoe hits the back of her helmet. Dang.
  • 10 11
IDK about this anymore.. This one was extra ugly- absolute real life injuries.
How many of these guys set up this dangerous stuff that a full blow DH racer wouldn’t risk hoping it makes it to Saturday Sends, or Sunday Saves.
Or at least Friday Fails..
  • 8 1
I’ve been thinking for a while it would be nice if there was injury data included. First off, it might be sobering for some of these people (if they watched FF) before trying some of these features. Secondly, we could anecdotally start to link types and severity of injuries to certain failure modes.

That rock drop to scorpion was horrible.
  • 9 0
I get the concern. We don't want to promote something like this if it's gonna encourage more people to go try things waaaay outside of their ability level. But people have been setting up crazy stunts and documenting it - successful or not - since long before Pinkbike was posting mashups of said fails, sends, and saves. It's just part of human nature
  • 5 6
I feel like watching the kids get f'd up is the worst. Document all the weekend warrior deaths you want, but leave the kids out of it.
  • 2 4
Agreed, these were super cringey this week
  • 1 4
@pcmxa: I think you're onto something. as @reindeln points out, are we by enjoying these videos actually encouraging people to take risks they otherwise wouldn't, and almost certainly shouldn't? Being of a generally libertarian mind, I'm not so concerned about this question unless there is an informational asymmetry.

The real weight of Friday Fails can only be understood when the ultimate fate of the crasher is known. These videos would certainly be less fun to watch if we knew how many of these people suffered serious injuries.

Do we have a responsibility to understand the full gravity of these crashes? Hell no!!!! Let'em crash, kids and all. Just kidding about the kids though, those are tough to watch.
  • 6 0
@half-man-half-scab: won't someone think of the children?

I'm not convinced PB and ubiquitous Go-pros are to blame for kids setting up ridiculous stunts and hitting them for their friends.

This week did seem extra painful though...
  • 3 2
@half-man-half-scab: agreed....if its clearly a minor, if you don't show him/her getting up after the crash, I don't want to see it (I say this being a dad of two....though I'm sure my younger self would have absolutely no issues ...crazy how that changes).
  • 3 0
If anything, wouldn’t seeing these crashes discourage people from riding above their ability level? Hearing the snaps of either bikes or bones should discourage most from sending a 20ft gap they aren’t ready for.

This isn’t jacka$$ where video submitters are making money or fame off of doing stupid stuff.
  • 1 0
 @Pcurt27:
When I was young and dumb, money meant nothing and fame was everything!
Imagine showing your friends you moment on Pinkbike at school the next day?
Makes me wonder if there are some many rejected vids where bones are stabbing through clothing.
Guess those go straight to YouTube.
  • 5 0
Outside bot trying to drum up support for cancelling FF?

Seriously though, there were some brutal hits today. FF does not make kids to do stupid things, nature takes care of that. I and probably most of us over 30, are lucky to be alive with some of the stupid things we have done.
  • 2 0
@jaytdubs: I’m watching regardless. I just like information and it seems we have a pretty good (though highly biased and anecdotal) data set in the accumulated FFs that could be used to generate some interesting insights into mtb crashes.

But I mostly just watch and rewatch fir the schadenfreud.
  • 1 1
 @pcmxa:
I have to say, this is why I click on the FF most every week myself. The anatomy of crash is worthy of study. Most of the classic over the bars crashes can be attributed to a shock in desperate need of service. You have no idea your high speed rebound is now too fast until you hit that high speed jump you’ve been nailing for a year.
And now you’re looking at the ground.
..been there
  • 2 0
@reindeln: can vouch for this - as someone who spent far too much time crashing and building stupid features in abandoned mines and quarries. No video encouragement needed, no decent equipment - just a crappy cheap helmet, a £100 hand me down bike and the confidence of youth. At least the kids these days get their 15s of fame!
  • 2 0
@grahamsinc: Yeah when I was young did lots of stupid stuff and ended up in hospital and not even a photo! I'm glad I'm not growing up in this age where the bar is set so high and everyone has access to video content like Hardline and Rampage. The videos we see of the pros make it all look so easy and then FF shows what happens when unskilled and fearless youth tries to copy them.
  • 2 0
At 3:38 we just saw the positive aspects of a wall and it sure wasn't that expensive...
  • 4 0
 This week is extra hard
  • 3 0
brutal. More please. Don't take any notice of the softies on here!
  • 3 0
A couple FULL SCORPIONS this week...the brutal one @ 2:02
  • 1 0
vid cut out way too quickly to mean anything positive came from that...
  • 2 0
I wonder how many of all this fails end up with serious injuries or fractures etc.
  • 1 0
Wow, that one at 2:00 was utter carnage!! That gets filed under the, "What in the world made you think you could hit that?" file.
  • 1 0
The 3rd fail is so ironic!!, "everyone's made it down the drops", then crashes Frown
  • 2 0
Did he say “pretty crash” at 2:35?
  • 7 0
"un petit crash" -- a little crash
  • 2 0
Sounds like "petite crash". Pretty darned funny though.
  • 1 0
And just before that he was saying how much he liked to whip on one side...
  • 2 0
the best tree hug i've seen in a long time
  • 1 0
New title for this segment: Top Ten Ways to End Up in the Hospital (and 5 more to make you question why we do this)
  • 1 0
1:55 So stoked to have my clip featured, can't wait to share with my friend on the bike.
  • 1 0
I feel like this was the most violent Friday Fails I've ever seen.....I mean that as a compliment :-)
  • 2 0
When the edit is cut short, only the worst can be assumed.
  • 1 0
What trail is that at 2.37? Somewhere in California?
  • 2 0
Looks like Mammoth. The rider filming was locked in on hitting the other rider that went down.
  • 1 0
Definitely Mammoth, was just there last week. That wall ride is either Boomerang or Smooth Operator..
  • 1 0
 @salespunk: Target fixation indeed.
  • 1 0
Those last two rubber bands got snapped.
  • 1 0
 2:40: Target fixation strikes again!
  • 1 0
The kid at the end clearly needs to chill out.
  • 1 0
Lord have mercy on those first 4 or so no speed to splat otbs......
  • 2 2
Is Friday Fails being posted later now to drive site visit numbers? I must have checked about 20 times this morning.
  • 3 0
Posted so late I couldn't even watch it at work. Takes half the fun out of it.
  • 1 0
My Friday morning routine is all sorts of screwed up now.
  • 1 0
Jerry has been taking an extra shot of 'go hard or go home' this week!
  • 1 0
God damn! This was a particularly vicious episode...
  • 1 1
French guy, ooh petit crash. After probably one of the more painful ones here lol. Different stuff those frogs
  • 1 0

This week's Friday Fails, brought to you by the new Fox Dropface helmet. You know you won't make the drop-wear a Dropface.
  • 1 0
Can't even make it 5 seconds into it this week before a Fade to Blackout.
  • 1 1

Sure looks like the trail that runs next to Candyland
  • 1 1
@nsmithbmx: lower boogie? I was thinking easy street after the drop zone.
  • 1 1
Jazz hands drop for sure Angel Fire
