Whatever happened to learning how to ride off a curb, then progressing to a 1 foot drop, then a 2 foot drop, etc. A lot of the riders here have no skill/technique , Learn the basics before trying a bigger drop or jump. The same mistakes over and over again. Unless your goal is Friday Fails.
There are more riders than ever, more places to ride, and easier access to good trails with bigger features. I have to say this Friday Fails made me wince way more than usual! Some brutal crashes. My favourites will always be people hitting the deck after bouncing down an airbag though!
Have you done the charlie rock before and wanted to go off the top lip as a challenge? Normal line is definitely to drop off the lower part given how short the landing is
Damn, some weeks I almost want a Disney FF where it’s just crashing into bushes and tipping over into water. The MTB gods must be angry what with this and all the riders getting hurt at Rampage.
@number44: Strangely enough there is a local fella who fabricates wheelchairs that's just started building steel HT frames on the side.... coincidence I'm sure. #BigWheelchair
Oof yes! They should have watched Matt from Ride Hub explain it, this was an oddly perfect explanation of one of the problem aspects he describes.
I rolled up on this on Sunday to see someone limping off the trail. I was feeling good about myself up to that point, but that little reminder instilled enough doubt into me to nope right out of the whale's back that day. Watching this will probably make me preemptively nope right out of it next time too!
@Thisisscott: LOL. After watching that video, I get the heebie jeebies on that feature all the time. Before Matt 'explained' the feature, I had no issues.
I consider myself okay at riding and about a mid-level intelligence, maybe a little lower. But I can't figure out why these guys' go so nose heavy on the drops, I assume they're riding their brakes for the drop? It's like there's a sniper in the woods, friggin wild to me.
Friday Fails #192 was made possible by the generous donation from the specialists at The Clavicle, and Coccyx Surgical repair Center. Who in turn, would like to thank these riders for making their generous donation possible.
As always, but especially this week, so many people extend their hands to break their fall. Guessing lots of broken wrists. The guy at 1:45 especially. Before I broke mine riding in July, I never noticed the pattern on Friday Fails.
From my days riding dirt bikes, I learned to never grab the rear brakes while airborne unless you want the nose to DIVE hard. At least on a dirt bike you can gas it in the air to drop the rear wheel. Haven't any of these people learned about the gyroscopic effect of the rear wheel? Hands off the back brakes while airborne!
@deonvg: Are you sure it was a divot in the rock? The video makes it look like your ass hit the rear wheel right before the front end went down. AKA the old "taint-brake".
That's why you should know how to ride a bike off a curb before trying the 5 ft drop. Also maybe he shouldn't be on a 29er if he throws his body that far back off drops like a dingus.
That video doesn’t do that drop any justice. I’ve spent a lot of time standing on that one and didn’t even recognize it in the vid. Nobody would ever try to hit that that wasn’t legit.
Great news, gents. We're going to start doing Roadie Fails on PB soon as well! Those will be free, MTB content behind the paywall.
Be safe and be well,
Robin
Something snapped off his bike and went clanging down the trail. Sounded like a freaking rotor, but my guess is a pedal?
I wanted to give the guy in the video immediately following him two thumbs way up for crawling out of the course to save the rest of the race from postponement. Femur be damned, he wasn't gonna slow a soul down that day.

That sort of recklessness/stupidity has always been part of mountain biking.
I've seen some gnarly ones
#BigWheelchair
Otherwise many hard slams today, hope the masses are healing well.
2:19 ha ha just digging a trench

Good full face ad though
