I have been doing a lot of research and I think the main problem here is speed.According to the pros if you get enough speed then you will go through the tree rather than getting hung up on it.

rider shaped hole through the tree?... seems logical, lol. reminds me of an old MythBusters episode where they got a ping-pong ball to super sonic speeds and blasted a perfect hole through the paddle
  • 4 0
 Yup, it’s science.
  • 3 0
 0:20 definitely needed more speed.
  • 2 0
Ya but just in case you don't get your speed perfect aim for the trees surrounded by foam lots of foam, it will still hurt like hell but what tree doesn't hurt when you tag it.

Whenever I watch the beginning of a FF clip through tight trees, I start looking at each tree wondering if that will be the one that jumps out and crushes the rider. I don't often predict it accurately, but I don't have to wait long for the correct answer either. Maybe we need a Mike and Mike commentary overdub? Didn't GMBN do that for a while?

After Ben's "How to jump" video yesterday, I feel like I can really break down these clips Smile
  • 1 0
I am a big fan of the slow-mo clips, reminds me what not to do when I am riding

3:25 was the worst i have seen in a while........and that sound of pain........oof
  • 1 0
I can't remember the last time I saw one that looked, or sounded as bad as that. I hope he's doing OK.
  • 1 0
Yeah, tree to the face then your mate runs you over.
  • 4 0
@commental: Haha this was me a few years ago.
Badly broken shoulder and collar bone. All good now though!
  • 1 0
@JamieBrownmtb: Good to hear mate. That was brutal.
  • 10 0
3:30. It has been many years since I made a sound like that
  • 4 1
And I sure hope it stays that way. Things do not feel good when that sound comes out of you.
  • 3 0
Last person to make a sound like that on film was Ned Beatty in "Deliverance". Yikes....
  • 6 0
Guy at 1:47 might does not look like he was going to pop right back up. That one hurt a lot, maybe out cold.
  • 4 0
Yeah, that's the sort of rigidity you see in MMA fighters when they get knocked out.
  • 3 0
That's a knock out by the books with a perfectly executed Moro reflex. Looks pretty scary.
  • 3 0
@pioterski: Moro reflex. This is why I read the comments.
  • 2 0
@pioterski: a Moro is when an infant startles, shoots their arms out and then tucks/cries. He looked bigger than a 2 month old. That just looked like a tonic posture after he got knocked cold and if the video went longer may have been the start of a seizure
  • 2 0
@mightydwight: But isn't a reversion to infantile reflexes a sign of neurological damage e.g. palmar reflex? I've been around plenty of bad crashes so I'm very interested in whether I sit and wait or call the ambulance ASAP.

Covid Joey (that now has all the kit and looks like a real rider) : "That's a line! People have done it. I'm gonna send it".

It seems that the pandemic has produced a bumper crop of fails. Lines that more "seasoned" riders have worked up to for perhaps years are just getting sent willy nilly.
  • 2 1
At least get some alliteration in there. It's COVID kooks.
  • 3 0
Poor bastiche @ 3:26 was cruising along just fine ... and then shoulder tackling that tree. Ouch ... I hope to never encounter a tree while on my bike unless it's a baby cedar.
  • 3 0
Yeah that one was brutal. @njcbps
  • 6 1
We got gypped with the film cutting short at :22.
  • 4 0
Seriously, wtf was going on at 2:38 w the audible commentary about gnar gnar up and down hill?
  • 1 0
Man almost every time I watch FFs I tell myself I shouldn’t watch this kinda stuff its gotta be bad juju or something watching people crash
It just has that humbling affect on ya sometimes
The guy on the yellow bike looked like he took a hard hit to the ole clamshell BF getting run over
brutal stuff
  • 1 0
That was a good compilation. I'm noticing quite a few of the crashes are when riders loose a foot off a pedal. Don't get me wrong, I've had my share of crashes, but I do prefer being attached to my bike a bit more on my clipless pedals.
  • 4 0
Looks like a bad BMX background.
  • 4 0
PRO TIP at 1.16 - avoid over-rotation by crashing straight into the jump.
  • 1 0
That hurt to watch. I had a similar crash on my bmx when I was ~9 years old. Painful and embarrassing.

Not related to FF but has anyone else experienced a change in the PB mobile version in the last day or so seems to open in one format and then quickly change to another w/no comment section at the end? Its only on certain articles. FF seems the same but other review/articles not so much
  • 2 0
I like how every FF seems to have a theme...this one being "Air and soul completely leaving the body." Last week was "Dirt salad/ trip to the dentist office"
  • 2 0
My takeaway from Friday Fails is to not ride with a backpack that looks like it is filled with 4 liters of water and lunch for 8.
  • 1 0
All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth edition. Why do I need a full face helmet.....watches this weeks FF...still doesn't buy full face helmet. Dentist and Ibis dealers across the globe rejoice.

 Solid opener.

race day at inneleithen ,any idea on rider ?
  • 2 0
Opener was at eagle bike Park in Idaho.
  • 1 0
Eagle Bike Park, optional tombstone on Hell Mary
  • 1 0
Wonder how many broken collar bones, ankles, wrists etc happen every week - based on the last couple of months videos, people have been crashing hard!
  • 2 1
Opener resulted in a dislocated ankle that had to be surgically reduced. Also a major fracture to the surface of the talus that’s since caused so much osteoarthritis in the sub taluor joint that the foot will need to be fused.

 2:10 - Should I stay or should I go?
  • 1 0
0:41 - f*cking brutal. Nothing has ever made me hit the ground faster than having my front tire go off the top of a berm.
  • 2 0
Like a piece of paper in an origami class - FOLDED

Pouring one out for all these collarbones

I think the one at 1:16 might have save his life from the next jump. Or maybe robbed us from the Friday Fail of the year.
  • 1 0
I must say, this week's sound effects were spectacular. Much pre-celebration. I live for Friday Fails.
  • 1 0
I think the last guy was in a little too much of a rush to see how his shot turned out.
