 :50.... I wish i didn't see this.
  • 22 0
Editions like this should be titled "Friday Life Altering Cervical Compression Fractures" so I know not to watch. Fuuhhhh...
  • 60 1
To the kid at :50. You're lucky to not be quadriplegic after that axial load from that height. (At least I hope you're not.) The dad and ER doctor in me really hopes you plan things a little bit better because I've seen too much suffering. Have fun but work up to things, progress slowly and don't "huck and pray".
  • 20 0
Seriously! I feel like I'm watching a snuff film.
  • 22 4
I love FF's and have been watching for years. I never want to see a clip like that again. That was disgusting.
  • 5 1
@slowerthanmydentist: My special lady friend is an emerg doc. She watches friday fails and calls out the injuries she is pretty sure the crashes have caused. I'm not gonna let her watch that one. I wish I hadn't seen it.

@JWadd: not like I was gonna buy Yoshimura pedals anyway, but ain't no way I'm down with supporting a company that tries to make money off these. It's cynical and icky, especially without a "nobody was injured" disclaimer.

Agreed. Wonder if we should have a age minimum for Fails. Let them show us the sends and saves instead.
  • 17 1
Pinkbike doesn't create the clips - they're submitted by members. Despite how aggressive the comments section has got recently, I seriously doubt there'd be people posting videos of their friends dying or getting paralysed. I'm sure most weeks do have a few collar bones and wrists going snap, plus dentists being able to afford that new Yeti, but likely not much worse than that
  • 7 7
@mountainsofsussex: They choose the clips to put in these compilations. The ones they've chosen for years have been great. Lately, there have been questionable ones. This one was over the line in my, and many others', opinion.
  • 3 6
I seem to be in the minority here, but to me it didn't look that bad. Maybe that's just wishful thinking. It is very hard to tell anyway from a clip like this.
  • 1 2
 @slowerthanmydentist:
Friday Fails has got to stop loading these life changing injury vids. This is not sustainable, and is heading for a lawsuit as sure as some kid burned down his parent’s house because Bevis said “Fire!”
  • 1 2
@ak-77: watch it in slo-mo. Full compression thru the dome of the head. In some sense, better than an off-axis hit which would have twisted the neck and spine.
  • 2 0
@ultimatist: Good tip to use slo mo. It looked more like a smooth roll before to me. But it's indeed direct a direct blow to the top of the head. I took a similar hit a few months ago, from much lower height but with more initial speed. I got away with a cracked helmet and a very mild concussion.
It looked like there was quite some flex in the ramp, let's hope the rider didn't get injured too badly.
  • 1 0
@ak-77: i broke my neck landing directly on my head. It was over a jump i came up short on, but the moral of the story is dont land on your head. Not cool.
  • 1 1
@drfunsocks: That's a nasty injury, I hope you recovered well from it! I don't think anybody plans to land on their head. I got very lucky, I realised that immediately after I got up.
  • 1 2
@slowerthanmydentist: ya the kid clearly sucks at riding haha what the hell what he thinking!!!
  • 1 1
@ak-77: And what's your expertise here? We have a literal ER doctor that was the second comment, and unless you're also a doctor, your opinion doesn't really mean much. No offense.
  • 31 2
did I just watch someone die? good lord PB, that was brutal...
@0:28?!!
@2:04?!!!!!!

 @ pb
That's not funny, that's not cool, that's obscene. Is the kid okay? Is the guy at 2:05 okay?

If not, don't show this crap.
If you don't know, don't show that crap.
If they are okay, I would like to see a big comment at the beginning.

I love pb, but today you failed!

flag owl-X (Apr 29, 2022 at 13:43) (Below Threshold)
@ordell1234: i don't love PB, but yeah they definitely failed today.
  • 16 1
@ordell1234 I mean yeah, its brutal but the people in the video posted these in the "crashes" section of pinkbike knowing that they could very well be featured on Friday fails so I don't really see an issue.
  • 17 1
@ordell1234: I know the guy who crashed at 2:04 it was over at Summit Ridge in Maple Valley WA. He's fine just broke his helmet. The trail is used for night sessions and he got clotheslined by some lights strung up in the trees.
  • 23 3
@ordell1234: mate this is purely a compilation of user submitted content, chill
  • 5 0
@ChristianToole: Thanks a lot for this Info!
  • 5 7
@Curse-of-the-foot-long-sub: I see your point but don't agree.
  • 2 4
@Nick8312: Got it. But we don't talk about broken arms or legs. For me wasn't clear, the guy @2:05 even survived...

Christian has fortunately clarified this...
  • 11 0
@ordell1234: @ordell1234: These are user submitted/uploaded etc. Im sure all riders are fine, otherwise there are some seriously morbid users out there.

Second note, PB users will literally find anything to B about, just as I'm being a B about you being a little B about these crashes. Its bikes, grow up.
  • 1 0
No idea about the first, but the second one (2:03) is apparently just fine.
At least according to a comment by Gavinxisxaxtravelerx ¿ on YT.
  • 1 0
 @ChristianToole:
I crashed years ago and it essentially broke my neck, but I didn’t know for a few years. Now I know, 24/7.
  • 29 1
I just spat my coffee out at 0:51. Looks like he decided to join a diving contest.
  • 14 4
Yep, fail of the year contender
  • 5 0
I did this same move on a sidewalk years ago, worst crash of my life. Ended up with 6 staples to hold my head together and a major concussion. And the pain from effectively jamming my entire spine was awful. Hope this guy is doing ok.
  • 11 1
All I could picture was someone getting tombstoned by the Undertaker.
  • 5 0
leggit the nastiest friday fails i've seen in a long time - this isn't the usual haha dude ate shit - this is i'm sure there is a permanent injury in there somewhere.
  • 31 1
 My boy Steve!!!
  • 12 0
 No, it's... My boy Steeeveee-ah!
  • 25 7
I disagree with many of the commenters saying this episode was too much. We are mountain bikers, not knitters. When things go wrong, you can walk away with a graze, or a bruise... or get carted away with broken bones, head injuries, spinal injuries, and very rarely death. Friday Fails is the flipside of the awesome sends and videos that we all love to watch, and your fifteen year old kid is watching them too and wants to repeat what he sees. And if he can watch the sends, then he should also watch the bends.
  • 20 0
No longer wondering what the mountain bike equivalent of diving into a shallow pool is.
  • 23 8
Why do E-bikers have the loudest bells? We can all hear your wheezing from miles away. No need for the cow bell.
  • 8 0
guy at 3:20 sounds like a good friend: brings all the hype when things are good, immediately checks if you're OK with things are not so good.
  • 11 2
Taking the gloves off today… Jesus Christ.

@SenditforJesus: well at least the name checks out

I feel pretty strongly that 'crashing well' is a skill. In today's segment I see people riding, AND crashing, way above their skill level. A piece of advice....If you want to be able to enjoy riding for the rest of the season you may want to work up to these things. Otherwise keep the content coming.
  • 10 0
 so is ramp kid dead?
  • 7 0
I am heading to the trails in 5. Going to yell "pedal! pedal! pedal!" at every person I see to test a theory that I have just developed.
  • 8 0
That clothes line, WTF?! And that last one should be in Saturday Saves...
  • 4 0
Honestly our sport can be brutal. I am a middle aged f*ck now but I have been racing DH since 2003. My oldest kid is just getting into bike park riding. We watch Friday fails every week and we always have a good talk about what went wrong. Please don’t cancel cultural FF because each crash is basically a lesson learned on what not to do. I felt gross after watching the kid at 0.50 but honestly what a shit setup. Who in the hell would let their kid hit that shit just sit back and watch? WTF?
  • 6 0
Friday fails banned from tv version? This one was brutal, I guess everyone’s just going for it this year lol
  • 5 1
This is Faces Of Death FF stuff. Not too many knowing chuckles this week. Aside from the brutal carnage why are kids hitting jumps built from 40-grit hardpack in shorts and tees?
  • 7 0
0:50 has to be one of the scariest I've seen yet!
  • 3 0
Captain Ahab, Moab UT @3:31, nice to see people getting out to hit some epic rides this spring. Always a plus if you can come back home with only the injuries you left with. Rode it 2 weeks ago and saw more ladies than dudes riding the loop, was so impressed!
  • 4 0
We need a Tosh.O/ Friday Fails mashup where some of the really bad ones get a chance to talk about what went wrong and try again.
  • 4 0
Guy @ 2:30. That "fail" isn't up to par with the rest. Come back when you're serious.
  • 5 0
Friday Fatalities bringing the heat this week!
  • 4 3
Yep, 0:52 and 2:05 both appear to be life altering and (maybe) should be scenes from Faces of Death. Genuinely concerned for those riders and their wellbeing.
*On a positive note, for once the comment section has a 97%+ agreeance rate.
  • 1 2
2:05 was confirmed to be non life altering by a mate in another comment above. No word about 0:52 though.
  • 20 18
As much as I like Friday Fails, I feel like 0:51 was a life changing neck injury for that kid. I don't wanna see that shit. I turned it off.
  • 19 0
taking the family member/friend shared the video, I have to assume it wasn't that bad. That flimsy wooden ramp likely absorbed most of the impact and it was at an angle....certainly not good but probably not as bad as it looked
  • 3 0
It was gnarly but some people need to see it. I’ve seen many fails of the same variety, half a pedal stroke before a wheelie drop.
  • 5 1
 And 2:05 is attempted murder...
  • 10 0
wondering what that was, as you can see there's stuff dangling from the rope
  • 13 0
@spicysparkes: likely lighting maybe for use of the trails at night...taking he launched from a berm, I'm not sure they intended anyone to go that way
  • 12 0
@SATN-XC: Yeah there is lights on most of the trails there. They were definitely not intending for someone to go that way but after that crash they restrung them higher so it wouldn’t happen again.
  • 4 0
Yeah that dude totally got clotheslined.
  • 2 0
@almeister: I was clotheslined riding a dirt bike around on a relatives farm when i was a kid, from a chain that was strung up between trees. I still have a fear riding certain trails at times thinking that someone may have set a booby trap like that!
  • 4 0
No, Steve is not OK! Brutal some of these..
  • 3 0
Were they going the wrong way on the trail @0:39? Other side of that gap seemed higher than the side they went off on
  • 6 1
The last one was a safe
  • 4 0
Thankfully that tree was there to grab onto for life, otherwise that would have been an ugly change of mind consequence. Did he not walk up to it and take a look beforehand? Damn dude, just say no.
  • 4 0
@JWadd: It’s like he suddenly remembered he was not on his Ibis
  • 3 0
Couple of these are nearing YMH territory that would make Tommy Bunz say "I wanna laugh".
  • 3 3
Came for the videos, stayed for the comments, Pinkbikers never fail to amaze me.

You are watching Friday fails, not Friday sorta effed up.

If you ain’t had a crash like what you see on Fridays, you are probably not riding that hard … just saying.
  • 2 0
Man, there are Friday Fails that are enjoyable and then there are Friday Fails that make you wish you had not seen them.
  • 3 1
Had some of the best ones yet although the last one should have been in Sunday saves.
  • 2 1
Cancel culture is in full force in this comment section. Bunch of snowflakes asking for changes to appease their subjective outlooks. Oh bother.
  • 1 0
Some people just dont seem to enjoy watching people having life-changing injuries. Saturdays and Sundays are already taken, otherwise i would have proposed to outsource this kind of content in a format you could call "spinal-saturdays". Oh well... j
  • 1 0
 :38 - ouch! hope he’s ok…
:50 - ouch! hope he’s ok…

good lord - some really bad crashes today

  • 1 2
I'm pretty sure watching friday fails makes you a worse rider. I almost always pass, too bored studying today not to though I guess. Can't wait to have these images running through my head on my next ride..
  • 2 0
GREAT end the video with some tree hugger !!!!
  • 1 0
I wonder if anyone broke their endh stem?
Was that rope or cable that necked that rider? Nasty.
  • 2 1
the :50 is just bad... hope the kids is ok.. an update from anyone that knows him would be great...

this video may have contained the biggest/hardest/worst hits in the series. ouch.
  • 2 0
I hope that kid is ok. that looked like a life changing crash
  • 1 0
Sure hope the kid who did the pile driver off the swing set was ok. That looked harsh.
  • 1 0
damn, these are getting pretty brutal... this is going beyond friday fails and more like friday the 13th.

@PinkbikeOriginals the kid at :50 dead or what do you have any idea before you posted that one?!

2:05 - what's hanging on the trees. That was a tough crash. O.O
  • 1 0
3:23: I guess that‘s what they call the butterfly effect?
  • 1 0
2:05 - WTF did we just witness. Is this guy's neck still in one piece??

First FF i couldnt finish. After the kid i was done. Ugly. Thanks for the nightmares pinkbike.

Always wondering why 99% of the contendors are male...?
  • 1 0
This one was solid, no complains here
  • 19 20
:50 and 2:05 don't belong, especially since the first one is a little kid. Poor taste. I'm a dad.

 Dinnnnng!!!

 For Germany
  • 4 5
Yup, i‘m not watching one of these again…
