I want to kick this off by saying something positive: Sweet prize! It would be awesome to win something like this!

This does not help your chances.

When I win this, I'll yell "He shoots he Scor's!"

@og-squid-mtb: Yeah, I know. I just wanted to balance out the inevitable bellyaching about whatever that’s gonna go down in the comments. Express gratitude rather than negativity.
  • 30 1
@TheR: Okay, I won't say anything about the color. I want to, but I won't.
  • 7 5
@brainbckt: I had to. Hard to make a worse color lol. But I also hate olive green and orange and... almost all rocky mountain paint schemes of recent haha
  • 1 0
 @brainbckt: you won't....
  • 8 0
@TheR: Stop it. This is Pinkbike. You're gonna confuse people
  • 6 0
@TheR: If you can't say anything nice, say it semi anonymously in the comments.
  • 3 1
@brainbckt: I'll say this, it won't look good with an orange fork!
  • 3 2
@brainbckt: I absolutely love this color. No sarcasm. Think how gaudy it would look with ano purple. mmm....yes.
  • 2 0
@11six: I said that to a random guy in Corsa. Turned out he was a Rocky rep. Ha ha
  • 5 1
@krashDH85: I partake in as much of the foolishness as anyone, but when it’s a free giveaway, I just think gratitude is the proper response, not criticism.

@bishopsmike: This does not help you chances.

@brainbckt: This does not help your chances.... cough, slightly sunburnt skin color

 Never Win Wednesday
  • 12 0
you got dis man, you got dis.
  • 14 0
Win it Wednesday where you don't actually win anything, and you never get sent updates from the company and you never even get told who actually won.
Thanks Pinkbike!!!
(from all those who get their hopes up every time they sign up)
  • 5 1
@m40sniper: THIS!! Why don't they ever announce a winner of anything on pinkbike?!? I've entered every contest for years and still don't believe they actually ever give anybody a prize. Where are the past winners? Speak up!
  • 36 1
Always wonder if not selecting "Yes, I would like to receive the latest information from..." affects chances of winning. Like slim to none, to just none.

As someone that works in tech, It does.
  • 12 0
It shouldn’t, unless the contest is structured to add entries based on signing up. Companies that change the odds based on that would really be setting themselves up for a class action lawsuit.
  • 8 0
 @buk50: Care to elaborate?
  • 3 0
@shortcuttomoncton: Dirty secret: many (not all) giveaways by brands are designed to pick a winner that fits their brand image. Hard to do in something like this, but the reason they ask for your social profiles is to (hopefully) do preventing on the 3-5 "winners" that are selected prior to a final winner.
  • 1 0
Looking at rule #1 with the fact that agreeing to be added to the mailing list has value (i.e. a kind of payment) they would be violating the law in Canada if they sorted the winners this way. So I agree with @shortcuttomoncton and would sign onto the class action if a whistle-blower (@buk50 ?) provided proof they were sorting by agreeing to be added to the mailing list.

1. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE OR PAYMENT OF ANY KIND WILL NOT IMPROVE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.
  • 4 0
 @buk50: techlord
  • 1 0
@dwd416: Plenty of contests out there ask you to like, share and repost for a chance to win said thing, would clicking on the box to be part of the advertising list for a company be any different?
  • 1 0
@onawalk: You can pay then all you want it just can't change the odds.
  • 1 0
@onawalk: Oh, I get what your saying now. It's probably not legal to ask to share and repost to enter. I think you would need a lottery license for that in Canada.
  • 2 0
@dwd416: Maybe think about it this way,
If you didnt fill in your name, the ballot likely wouldnt be considered complete, so not actually entered into the contest.
if you dont click on accepting the promotional info, maybe youre not actually entered into the contest, as its not considered complete....wild speculation on my part

I have no actual idea either way, I'm wildly speculating. I stopped entering when it went from a single click to enter, to actually filling out my info.

Id be curious to hear what @buk50 had to say about his comment, but im assuming its likely nonsense
  • 2 0
@onawalk: it’s essentially “paying for a customer base” by collecting their info for advertising. We do it as a newsletter with industry tips in an attempt to drum up customers and work. They agree to give us their email, and receive said newsletter in exchange to be entered in a raffle for our prize package. Someone wins the prize, and hopefully they like the package and become a customer long term, and the same for the newsletter. We have analytics to show the most read articles/advice and what to target etc.
of course as pointed out in other posts, different countries have differing laws on what you can and can do, and that is reflected in the rules of the contest. It’s what makes these contests unavailable in certain countries or areas
  • 1 0
@Bmxtar: I have a vague understanding of "paying for the customer base",
I think what we were discussing was the inclusion of ticking the box that you agree to receive promotional material or not, and whether that either includes you in the prize draw, or excludes you from the prize draw.

I guess I look at it as if I don't click to accept the promo material, I haven't completely filled out the form, so I'm not included. I haven't "joined the club" so I don't get the perks.

Whos getting this info anyway?
Pinkbike? Scor? Big wheel Cartel?

That's my guess at this point, again, wild speculation on my part.
  • 1 0
@onawalk: I guess that’s what I wanted to get at. You gotta tick that box. If I can’t send you promo material, your email would be pointless to me. Everyone would would leave it blank, and I’d be giving away a prize to earn one customer. At least that’s what our SEO guy tells me lol
  • 3 0
@Bmxtar: none of this is relevant for this contest. It is structured as a random draw for all entrants. Consenting to marketing emails is completely optional (which is required in Canada). If the random draw odds were altered based on who provided their optional marketing consent, the company would be offside their own contract with contest participants, conducting an illegal contest in Canada, and really exposing themselves to liability if that were to get out.

Would not be worth it at all. Who cares about marketing signup from one person? Give them a free bike and they’ll probably be a spokesperson for life!
  • 1 2
@shortcuttomoncton: but it’s possible that it isn’t optional, optional would be two boxes, one to opt in, one to opt out, thus completing the form for entry.
I don’t think tossing ballots that didn’t accept promo material alters the odds any more or less than tossing incomplete ballots cause you didn’t complete your email or contact info, etc. odds would highly dependant on how many people enter, as there are no set amount of available entries.

I do want to reiterate that I have no basis at all for the things I’m typing, was merely playing devils advocate to the idea that if I don’t click that box, is my entry even valid.

Was also hoping for some follow up from @buk50, but my suspicions are prolly correct on that one
  • 1 1
@Bmxtar: I guess it all depends on the rules in each country or area that the contest runs, or doesnt run in. Maybe theres creative ways around some rules, others might be more ironclad.

I assume that clicking the box is mandatory to be entered in the contest, I get why, and I get that its my choice to do so one way or another. I have no issue either way.
Nothing is free in this life, and I dont begrudge any company that is creating a potential audience for their products and services in this way.
  • 2 0
@onawalk: that’s not how email signup works in Canada. There’s no requirement to opt out; only to opt in. And it cannot be a mandatory provision of the service being offered. (And separately, it would be considered value necessary to enter and be offside their rules and contest laws up here.)

So if they took they route you’re suggesting, it would be illegal. Of course that doesn’t mean they’re not doing that. But logically speaking it would make more sense for them to avoid that danger.
  • 2 0
@shortcuttomoncton: So how do giveaway contests where youre asked to "like, share, subscribe" for a chance to win said thing work?
Is it not a similar circumstance?
I dont know enough about giveaways to know what can and cant be done.
A quick read of the rules for this giveaway notes

4. HOW TO ENTER: To enter the Sweepstakes, visit www.pinkbike.com to log into your free Pinkbike account (“Account”). If you do not have an Account, you can follow the on-screen instructions to create one for free. After you have created your Account, you can enter during the Sweepstakes Period by visiting www.pinkbike.com/news/win-it-wednesday-enter-to-win-a-4060-frameset-and-shock.html and following the on-screen instructions to complete an entry form with the required information to enter. Incomplete entries are void. Limit of one (1) entry per person and/or email address.

Last sentence notes that you have to complete the form with required info, incomplete forms are void.

So if you dont click the promo link, is your entry incomplete, therefore void?

Also of note to @dwd

7. ODDS: The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

In reality, I'm no expert in the field, just curious.
  • 3 0
@onawalk: that’s a great question. Other than that practice used to be explicitly offside Facebook’s Terms of Service (which they seemed to stop enforcing 7 or 8 years ago when they realized they needed more commercial money), one easy answer is that a lot of small companies don’t actually follow contest laws regardless, so they’re always a tough comparison. But I suspect the best answer is that email anti-spam is regulated (in Canada) and you are explicitly not allowed to hinge email consent on receipt of services (you might remember when stores like the Gap started doing that when you bought jeans a decade+ ago, but then stopped). But that rule does not apply to social media subscribes. I guess it’s arguable whether the social media requirements are actually something of value, but I think email is clearly offside.

The east answer to your second question is that I filled out the form without adding my email consent and it said I had submitted. It’s possible they’re removing entries on the back end but that would be pretty deceptive.

Would it be wrong of me to enter this week after winning this bike in last year’s Win it Wednesday? I can confirm that people do win these and this bike is great!
  • 6 0
 Wait!
You won this bike on a Win it Wednesday?

Good for you!

Quick question, had you clicked on the box accepting the promotional info from the company?
@dwd416 and I would like to know.....
  • 8 0
@onawalk: yeah, I won this last year but went for the Midnight Disco frameset.

I can’t remember for sure but I’m fairly certain I clicked the box to sign up for emails.
  • 4 2
 @drumhellraiser: good for you,
Thats pretty rad!

Shame about being an Oilers fan.....
  • 2 0
@onawalk: In one of these articles one of the editors commented that one does not need to tick the email box
  • 2 0
@onawalk: Can corroborate this story. He did win the bike, the bike looks real good, he is unfortunately not any faster as a result.
  • 1 0
@bryanjoh: but it has less travel. Is that a valid excuse for me still being slow?!
  • 2 0
@drumhellraiser: Its the Oiler fandom that makes you slow.......

I'm rooting for them, Leafs as well.
Best hope to being the cup home to where it belongs right now
  • 1 0
@drumhellraiser: As for your question, no it is absolutely not wrong to enter. Maybe it is just personal and you're the only one able to win this frame. If you don't enter, no one wins. I could change my vpn settings to a place where this giveaway is running, but I obviously won't be able to pick up my frame at a foreign data center Wink .
  • 15 0
It's not available to my country, lovely
  • 28 2
That color shouldn't be allowed in any country.
  • 3 0
@MOBrules: i actually LOLed at work
  • 11 1
Just know that this is a data farm....

You wont win but you will provide WAY more data than you think including you home IP (aka your address), Social account combined data (everything you've ever searched or commented on) and a bunch of other stuff, Canada and the UK has protections for this but the US doesn't.

"10. DATA: By entering, you agree to Sponsor’s manner of collection and usage of any personal information you submit, all of which is subject to Sponsor’s privacy located at www.outsideinc.com/privacy-policy and the Prize Provider’s privacy policy located at www.scor-mtb.com/scr_eu_en/privacy-and-cookie-policy

For residents of Canada and the United Kingdom: Personally identifiable information you submit in connection with the Sweepstakes will be collected, used, and disclosed only for the purposes of administering the Sweepstakes, prize fulfillment, as you otherwise expressly consent, or as required by law. By entering the Sweepstakes, you consent to such collection, use, and disclosure."

  • 5 0
but what about an iframe with a shock?
  • 1 0
 Especially funky colored ones, eh?
  • 3 2
 iframes?
  • 3 1
@kevinjordans: invincible frames? Common used in fighting games during a dodge or parry. Typically within 4 frames of the start up move. Like melee fox is intangible for 4 frames after a ledge dash.

But he could also be talking about html iframes.
  • 3 1
@phastlikedatnascar: iFrames? All I see is the Scor 4060 frame Wink .

I think PB fixed this and the iFrame issue I had last time seems to show the submit form properly in my Brave browser. I should've checked the HTML code in developer mode to see if there is an iFrame in the submission section.
  • 6 1
Have there even been any "Win It Wednesday" wins (results) posted somewhere on PB?
  • 2 0
Some have been announced but certainly not all. www.pinkbike.com/news/tags/win-it-wednesday
  • 2 2
@bent6543: so, the last time results were announced Oct 22’

I’d say it’s quite worth boycotting this shitshow…
  • 2 0
Anyone else missing the box to enter their details entirely? This is a new issue for me, and has happened on the past two win it Wednesdays. If anyone else has this problem, are you running ad blockers and that kind of thing? I'm wondering my numerous ad/facebook/cookie blockers are the culprit.
  • 4 0
It wont let me submit my details? The box is blank same for last weeks win it wensday to..
  • 1 0
@wellbastardfast: i just refreshed my page and changed few settings in my internet browser and know it seems to be working!? Give it a whirl dude..

Knew a guy that worked in the “text this number for a chance to win” department of a local beverage distributor. They placed the contests at grocery stores around town. 100% rigged, he would oersonally choose a winner but typically just selected his friends and even selected himself to win a PS5.
  • 2 0
 Sucks to be Australian..
Anyone else getting this message below the entry button "Sorry, this campaign is not available in your location."
The button isn't even clickable..oh well, good luck to a staff members friend.
  • 2 0
Yep, same. Looks like it's North American, only?
  • 1 0
This is the same contest from Sept. 7, 2022? I don't think a winner was announced for that one, so this might be a recycled prize? Or maybe nobody wins these things, so PB has to keep relevant......
  • 3 0
I won the frameset last year. Scor was awesome to deal with and had the bike to me before Christmas.
  • 1 0
@drumhellraiser: That's awesome. So when they pick my name I should be able to get it fully built before Killington this year.
  • 1 0
@drumhellraiser: That's awesome! I didn't know a winner was announced. Enjoy the ride!
  • 1 0
@joezv: A winner wasn't announced. They never are. That is the issue with the transparency surrounding this contest. It would be very simple for PB to announce the winners, yet they continually refuse to do so. Makes the whole contest just feel like a ruse to gain subscribers to the email list of the involved manufacturer.
  • 4 0
they should've named this colorway "krang"
  • 1 0
 Lol!!
  • 4 1
Congragulations the the soon to be winner. Oh wait. There wont be one.
  • 1 0
No available in my location? Is that because they know that the frame will fill with Norsk mud around the shock and explode Smile
  • 3 0
I remember when used to enter for these…

Would love to win this, then immediately take it to a powder coat facility for a quick update.

It is a very Charleston color. Is your house this color? No negativity intended!
  • 2 0
@therealnobody: ahaha! It isn’t, but you definitely hit the nail with that one. Pastel-y bikes are fun, maybe since nearly all of mine have been a shade of black.

"Sorry, this campaign is not available in your location."
This is so lame!
  • 7 9
The not available in your location is a joke. When did Pinkbike become geographically limited? Kinda defeats the point of being a global website…
  • 15 1
Its not Pinkbike actually giving this away, you aggro dubba.
  • 6 0
its ok man you weren't gonna win it regardless
  • 8 0
Ever since someone who works in the gaming sector took to the comments last Christmas and pointed out Pinkbike giveaways violate both Canada's criminal code as well as the Competition Act.... seems like they got legal advice and brought their contests into compliance.
  • 5 0
@j-t-g: if any legal eagles could get autoplay onto the criminal code that'd be great
