PRESS RELEASE: YT Industries

If conquering rowdy terrain at speed is the objective, the CAPRA CORE 5 is for top-of-the-line enduro performance. From its hard-charging Maxxis Double Down tires to the proven SRAM X0 Transmission drivetrain and Öhlins suspension – there's no hiding this model's intentions... it's all about going fast.

Frame & Features

Available in dedicated MX/29" frame configurations and a range of five sizes, CAPRA CORE 5 has your back whether you prioritize flat-out speed or park-fueled Good Times. Beneath the head-turning liquid-metal colorway lies YT's highest-end Ultra Modulus carbon fiber, which is lighter than standard High Modulus layup whilst providing the same strength. A TM6000 water bottle features alongside a Crankbrothers SOS Tube Stash, complete with a tire lever and plugs, and the race-proven V4L kinematic controls the 165mm of travel on the 29" model and 170mm on the MX, respectively, while size-specific chainstays ensure balance regardless of rider height.

Specification

Bring on the gold rush. Up front, the Öhlins’ RXF38 M.2 fork features a triple-chamber air spring for precision adjustment and control over the beginning, middle, and end stroke. Damping is taken care of by the World Championship-winning TTX18 cartridge with high/low-speed compression and rebound adjustment for traction through rough trail sections. Out back, the Öhlins TTX M.2 features an updated bottom-out bumper and an increased high-speed compression range for enhanced tuning potential. Size-specific spring rates feature too: 343 lbs (S), 365 lbs (M), 388 lbs (L), 411 lbs (XL), and 434 lbs (XXL), with two separate shock tunes for sizes S-L and XL-XXL, respectively.

A strong, reliable wheelset is a must-have for any enduro bruiser; cue the proven Crankbrothers Synthesis Enduro Alloy rim and Industry Nine 1/1 combo. These rims feature specifically tuned front/rear profiles with unique spoke counts to improve ride quality, and with 90 points of engagement, the rear hub delivers snappy, off-the-mark pedaling performance. Contact patches are beefed up with the Double Down casing Maxxis Assegai and DHR II combo, which fends off punctures and boosts grip. The SRAM X0 Transmission excels at shifting under power while utilizing a flat top chain and redesigned shift ramps to elevate durability. A Renthal Fatbar/Apex cockpit, SDG saddle, ODI grips, and SRAM Code RSC brakes add to the finishing kit, whilst HS2 rotors feature to increase bite and heat dissipation. Lastly, the second generation of the YT Postman dropper uses an updated rail clamp design with a lower stack height and user-adjustable drop heights.

I know SRAM XO is new but I miss seeing Shimano XTR on top end builds...
  • 5 7
YT only uses SRAM for drivetrains, brakes, etc. and not Shimano.
  • 12 0
@generictrailrider: not really they used to use a lot
  • 11 5
There is always something special about XTR kit on bikes
  • 3 0
@MaxGuerette: i have xtr on my '19 jeffsy, still works flawlessly.
  • 60 21
Why does the Industry always spec SRAM Frown
  • 18 7
Cause their drivetrains are pretty good (no comment on brakes lmao). I bet OE pricing on Transmission is only tolerable for the brand when bundled with codes (this hypothesis is based on Transition stocking TRPs on all Spire builds except their transmission one.)

It's available, it's functional, and customers are asking for it. I haven't sold an aftermarket Shimano drivetrain as an upgrade package in almost two years, aside from road and gravel. I know PB loves Shimano, but that doesn't seem to translate to the average sales floor customer in my experience.
  • 15 11
 Cheap, that’s why
  • 15 0
Because they can bundle suspension with it (not in this case, but in general). SRAM offers the group, the brakes, the fork, shock and dropper at every level.
Shimano has the group. the brakes, a single mediocre dropper and........
This gives SRAM overwhelming OEM powers at every level.

I strongly prefer Shimano, but let's not forget that SRAM is doing to Shimano now in MTB what Shimano did to Campy in road ~15-20 years ago. Progress.....maybe?

The world is getting dumber. The band Devo (check the name meaning young grasshoppers) was way ahead of the curve.
  • 1 0
@zanda23: they make a bunch with both TRP/transmission
  • 2 2
@sherbet: is that because they would also need to buy a freehub which increases the cost further? At least if they're replacing the cassette. I bought a deore drivetrain and am running it with my SX cassette for now. Not sure how itll work out long term, but its waaaay better than the sx garbage.
  • 3 3
@emptybe-er: Not for us Customers. If it wasn´t for the XD Freehub i would switch to Shimano with any Part that breaks. But only because of their prices. Shimano always offers some decent level Parts for half the Price of an GX equivalent. I know GX should be compared more to a XT but at least Shimano is giving you the Choice to buy cheaper parts that are also technically advanced. NX and SX is pure crap whereas an SLX Cassette also has a spread of 10-51 and costs about € 80. The SLX derailleur usually goes for € 45 instead of 90-100 for a GX.
  • 3 1
@jojotherider1977: Nope. I assure you, people dropping 3-4k on a drivetrain do not see the expense of a freehub body as a holdup. Plain and simply; Sram is vastly more popular on our floor.

I have sold tons of aftermarket Sram drivetrains, both as upgrades within Sram's ecosystem, and as replacements to Shimano drivetrains. I almost never get customers asking the other way around. I have likely sold more GX upgrade kits in the last 6 months than I've sold MTBs with Shimano drivetrains, period.

@bigmeatpete420: I just spent way too much time looking but I can't find a build with transmission and TRP on their site. They do have axs builds with TRP, but those appear to be in the process of phasing out.
  • 1 0
@fruitcake: We're not allowed to say Mongoloid anymore. They saw it coming.
  • 1 0
@zanda23: the relay has this build option

I think the patrol did too

I think another thing is that the new code breaks are really really good. And I think they probably bought a shit ton of TRP products during Covid when it was hard to get anything else. So have their way in there. Either way I know for a fact it significantly cheaper to buy an entire sram and suspension set up for most companies. That’s why nobody uses shimano anymore.

 @FatTonyNJ: TOUCHE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • 22 3
That's a pretty nice spec for $6500, would be closer to $8K elsewhere (or maybe I'm just living in 2021)
  • 21 2
a similar build at trek would be 10k+
  • 26 2
@danielfloyd: but the trek would come with a one piece carbon bar stem so the premium price would be worth it

@xciscool: nobody actually wants that. Pay all that money and then can't dial in your cockpit?

If you don't mind more yellow, more carbon (rims), less engagement (hubs), less transmission (GX not XO), more batteries (seatpost), and more bigger (S/M sold out), then you can save $2500 and get the Uncaged 11 on sale: us.yt-industries.com/products/outlet-sale/605/capra-mx-uncaged-11

came to say this as I have been eyeing their outlet bikes for a few weeks now. Just need to sell my old bikes first!
  • 1 0
 That's quite the deal!
  • 3 0
@rallyimprezive: just need to sell old bike... LOL... good luck with that ahahahaha

I couldn't get past the first two paragraphs sounding like Charlie f*cking Day selling Kitten Mittens.

Give me the facts. Let me decide if an inanimate object will "have my back". Why is "Good Times" capitalized? Did you actually hire Charlie?

Only thing I'm interested in is that bad ass goat mask.

¿Cuanto cuesta?
  • 4 0
Give me money. Money me. Money now. Me a money, needing a lot now.
  • 1 0
The goat mask was borrowed from andrew tate
  • 2 0
Is your cat making too much noise?
  • 10 0
i feel like this same press release is posted once every 3-4 months, with the only changes being frame material or paint color
  • 10 2
Why the hell are the seat tubes so long?!
If all the sizes had the one smaller frame size seat tube length it’d be a pretty perfect frame
  • 7 0
Always!!! I don’t understand why companies insist on not giving us straight, short seat tubes
  • 7 2
YT still not providing long enough dropper posts on their bikes! Other than that… pretty cool rig.
  • 2 0
At least they grew 25mm per size since i ordered my Capra. But still not enough. I bought a size M Capra and it came with a 125mm Dropper. Thats just ridiculous if it isn´t an XC Bike
  • 1 1
@haunte: not that ridiculous, i'm riding a size M 29er and if my dropper was longer than the current 150, i'd need to buy a shorter one Big Grin
  • 2 1
other than the upgraded drivetrain and downgradded dropper, what is the difference between this and the Uncaged 11? Last I checked, the uncaged 11 was 3800 in the outlet. Core 5 is sick, but like id rather have a reverb AXS and save 2 grand personally
  • 2 0
Uncaged 11 is MX only. Core 5 is MX or 29.
  • 2 0
@FaahkEet: for 2500 more? I like 29 but not for that much haha
  • 4 0
@bKrack: Also only some sizes left for the Uncaged. Those are one off so once all sold that's it. I think this Core 5 might be resupplied as the year goes on. I think that's the difference between the Uncaged and Core.
  • 2 1
Geeez people. What's it gonna be? Not long ago we wanted prices to go down, right? New models every 30 months or so IS NOT the way to drive down prices. YT Is doing a good thing here with sticking to the frame, longer than most, and by doing that they are making them accessible I hope they keep the capra for another season. It is still a great bike!

I mean how outdated is the geo anyway? Not much - I'd say it is bang on trend. Or do they reallty need to fork up the cash for new molds just to get a shorter seattube? A hacksaw is way cheaper!
  • 1 0
This is not the MK2 Frame. The Mk3 is on the market since 2021, 2022 if you are counting the time where you could actually buy one in 29".
  • 1 0
@haunte: may 2021, 2022, 2023, and prbably a new goat late 2024. I hope they hold on to it until may 2025 It is really a very up to date and extremely capable bike
  • 1 0
this is sweet! can we get a full press release on the NX model that gets released next week?
  • 2 0
Have to love the revolving door of build kits YT puts out
  • 6 0
It's like a sushi boat - wait for a while and your flavor will wash up.
  • 3 1
 looks like a Goat.
  • 1 0
Didn't PB just list it as one of the bikes that's time for redesign?
  • 1 0
 No, that's the Izzo.
  • 2 1
@Neloz: Well Shizzo, its time for a change to ditch that frame brace!
  • 1 0
365lbs for a medium. What are they LEAD!
  • 6 8
Is YT ever going to redesign their bikes or just keep trying to stay relevant by slapping new paint and parts on an outdated frame?
  • 11 0
The Capra's latest redesign was in the middle of 2021. Not terribly outdated.
  • 1 0
@rallyimprezive: yea it seems like they're about a size shorter in reach, but they offer XXL so most people can size up if they want geo that pretty much matches the 'norm'
  • 2 0
@sudochuckwalla: Dude! Have you been living under a rock!? Super long bike with Mediums at 500mm reach is sooo 2023.
  • 1 0
 Looks awesome to me.
